  1. My dog Kai (which some of you have met) finds most of the caches when we go out hunting these days. We thought it was due to human scent until she found a FTF. Even better she doesnt actually remove them she just sits next to them with a look on her face that clearly states we are stupid humans. Certainly helps if your GPS is sending you to every ivy covered tree in the forest....
  2. I think there are a few of us around so like others have said why dont you arrange something and I am sure people will turn up
  3. Well done to the Wrightys for: 1500 caches
  4. according to Podcacher this week some Germans managed to attend 16 events but they admitted that people had arranged them at 20 minute intervals along one road and that they were pushing the GC boundaries! Still at least we managed our target of 10 - thanks again everyone who made us so welcome at their events.
  5. sorry, we are going there but not till end October
  6. actually to some people 8 miles could be a considerable challenge and those people should be congratulated just as much on their success as someone who is fit and healthy and able enough to walk 80 miles. I agree with Mrs B that its good to hear about peoples' record attempts even if some of them are easier now. Other sports and pastimes dont stop their records when things advance, eg the round the world yacht record is still chased despite the advancement of boats and their equipment.
  7. Hi I am sorry that you feel the Cachewalker members are not interested. In actual fact one or two of us would be more than willing to get involved - I cant seem to find your post on the cachewalker site but please feel free to contact me directly to discuss this further. Cheers
  8. Hi, Welcome to Geocaching. I have sent you a PM with a couple of ideas Schnarff x
  9. Well its not quite the same as it didnt exactly go missing but one of my coins went from South Africa before Christmas with a log stating it would be going on its travels again. It then went very quiet until the new year when I have received a lovely log from some people saying they had it safely in their possession and were just waiting for the holidaymakers to log the drop off before they logged it. I thought this was nice of them as not everyone puts a note on whilst waiting for loggers.
  10. I wouldnt normally get embroiled in something like this but on occasion I too have kept a bug longer than expected - for similar reasons that have already been mentioned however the simple etiquette I have always used: if I am deliberately keeping it longer due to its mission (eg I am able to take it abroad) I email the owner and ask if they are happy with that or would rather me drop it off at a nearby cache if I have kept it longer due to personal circumstances out of my control (eg illness) once I go over the 2 weeks I email the owner stating my "embarrassment" and apologise. If we have time to come on here and check new caches, go onto forums etc then we all have time to click on the send message and write a couple of words out of courtesy to the owner. I think if everyone did this then people would not get so annoyed. Whilst I would not want to been seen as making any "personal attacks", the individual(s) who state on here that its ok to keep bugs for longer never seem to mention that they do contact the owners. This method has not only always worked for me but I have ended up making more "geo friends" this way as people remember that I was friendly and courteous and appreciate the communication Schnarff x
  11. regarding the weather you might want to speak to Wrighty. Based around the Cotswolds it never rains when he is out and about
  12. I dont think that this observation is limited to geocaching - as a keen biker I rarely see ethnic minorities on either scooters or motorcyles - and I work in a multi-cultural city. I think its a phenomenon caused by cultural and upbringing differences. Of my "Asian" friends I believe that there are key cultural differences. Many of them find the bulk of their free time spent with either their family, at their place of worship or both. This leaves them very little other time and that will be spent doing things like going to the cinema, the gym etc. Whereas I believe "whites" on the whole are a lot less family orientated or religious - before you all shoot me down in flames on that point I am aware that its a sweeping statement that many of you will disagree with but do you have to go to your place of worship every day? Of my "black" friends whilst on the whole they are not as different on the family and religious front, they tend to spend all their time playing football & cricket, socialising and making or listening to music. As a side note I actually saw both black and asian people at the Mega Event Schnarff
  13. There's no rhyming slang related to Bristol Cities surely? Heh, yeah the great old M4/M5 interchange, driving bliss... especially with Cribb's bloomin Causeway full of shoppers all weekend...still, I was worrying about the A1M, but seems the Mega Committee sorted that for the day too, I've never known it so roadwork-free! The airport is pretty good though...flights should be cheap being a regional...again perhaps a minibus shuttle could be arranged? We'll help out if we can - no longer down that way, but family are... (this is bikermel by the way, I can't be bothered to log out and back in...)
  14. well sadly mines not spelt correctly (as the correct spelling was unavailable) but mine is my online name, not just on here. Anyway I ride a Yamaha Thundercat and for those of you who grew up in the 80s you should remember the Thundercats cartoon....
  15. Not sure what exactly whether someone may or may not be my partner or whether we are just caching buddies, which is a PRIVATE matter, has anything to do with this thread, especially as you dont know me....... With regards to two sides to the story as I was there on the day I am aware of comments made by various event attendees, not just who chose to log their comments, rightly or wrongly. Its neither my place nor serves any purpose to go into any details. If the OP feels so strongly then perhaps they should contact all the relevant cachers and discuss directly with them why they have put their comments or ask for the cache owner to remove them? 16. no sour grapes on my part at all HazelS - my event but not my logs or opinons questioned here hence my statement not wanting to get involved with the debate.
  17. As the organiser of the event in question whilst I do not want to get into this debate I would like to remind everyone that there are two sides to every story and therefore perhaps people should not be so quick to judge based on snippets of information that are provided. Happy Caching Schnarff
  18. Hi, And welcome to the world of caching. There are quite a lot of us in the Warwickshire/Worcestershire area and all are very friendly (well, the ones I have met are ) As Mrs B has already said when the others stop caching they are likely to drop by in here and say hi at some stage but if you fancy going to an event try the Cachewalker one this Sunday 30th March. Whilst based in the Cotswolds a few of the Warwickshire people will also attend this and you would be made to feel very welcome (and the walk isnt compulsory!). Also if you need any help with caching etc just shout and one of the locals will help Otherwise hopefully we will bump into you at some stage Take Care Schnarff xx
