    WAAS?

Enable WAAS. It will improve your accruracy. 'nuff said.
  2. Years ago I remember seeing a news story where the military demonstrated GPSr for Bill Clinton. They had spread out quarters on the Whitehouse lawn and were able to precisely pinpoint a single quarter. As it is right now such precise measurements are limited to military and goverment applications. Could we see such accuracy in civilian hands? And why not now? Accuracy in the better handheld GPSr's is less than 20 feet. What would be the difference in taking that to less than a foot?
  3. Went back to 3.70 just to get my D's back. I don't need the 2GB+ fix right now. Is there an e-mail address I can use to bitch about send my feedback on the 3.90 update?
  4. You're right. I remember now that the topo 2008 wasn't compatible with that software. Considering its been more than a year I doubt a version for the topo 2008 will be made available.
  5. So what's the limit now? 4GB? 16GB? Anyone know?
  6. I installed all of the city navigator and most of the western US topo maps (basically everything west of Colorado). It was 2013 tiles total I think. As I recall there was some third party software that would combine tiles into larger tiles which would enable you to load all of the topo US maps into a unit. I can't recall the name of the program. As it is if I'm going further east than Utah I'll just load up new maps. Right now I have far more than I'll actually use loaded into my 60Cx. But it would be nice to have the entire US topo and city nav maps on one card.
  7. Thanks for the reply! Went out and picked up City Navigator and succesfully installed both. Took about 3-4 hours but it works.
  8. I have a Garmin 60Cx with the 2008 Topo maps DVD, I also want get the City Navigator maps. My question is this, can I load both the Topo maps and the City Navigator maps onto a single SD mico card and select between them on the GPSr.
  9. Just did the update myself on my 60Cx and no problems at all for myself.
  10. I was thinking about moving to the Colorado but after reading all of that, I'm sticking with my 60Cx.
  11. So as I understand it, from this thread, if I buy the 2008 City Navigator NT software I can get the 2009 NT update for free? No one has posted that they've recieved it from a download, but if I call Garmin they will send the update DVD for free? What info will Garmin need from me to send me the update DVD? Sorry if this is rehash but I want to be clear before I spend $100 on last years software.
  12. I'm trying to get a route I created in Google Earth onto my Garmin. I've done it before by saving the route as a KML file then converting it with GPS Bable and finally loading it into Mapsource. But I can't get it to work anymore. When I try to load the file into Mapsource it says it is an invalid MPS file. The previous routes I had created and saved before will still work, just not any new routes I'm trying to create. I'm using the Mapsource I got with the Topo 2008 (it had previously worked with the 2007 version) so I'm not sure if that is the problem. Does anyone know a tutorial on getting a route from Google Earth to a Garmin GPSr?
  13. Guess I'll be going against the grain here. I have purchased and used an Invisible Sheild screen protector for my Garmin 60Cx and I must say I was dissapointed. While it is a VERY durable screen protector it really messed with the screen fidelity. I applied it exactly as the directions described and was left with what I can only describe as an orange peel look to the screen. There was a slightly wavy distortion to the graphics (which was worse under direct sunlight). My preference is for a screen protector that is invisible (you shouldn't even notice that is there at all). That said, in my experience the best screen protector is from Martin Fields. These screen protectors are invisible. It does lack an anti-glare coating but such coatings only detract from the screen fidelity. You wouldn't know it was there except for the slight outline at the edges. I first purchased one for my PSP two years ago and it is perfect. Even after a couple years of use there is only one tiny scratch on the protector. These are really the best screen protectors on the market.
  14. I'll be taking a trip in mid Oct. and I'd like to make a turn by turn route to upload to my Garmin 60Cx (I only have the Topo US 2008 Garmin software so there's no auto routing). I can make a turn by turn route using Google Earth and import it to the GPS, but Google Earth will not give me the route I want. It appears to simply find the shortest route between only two points and will not let you modify it. I have been able to make the exact route I want using Google Maps but I can't find a way to export it to Google Earth (from which I could then convert it for my GPS) or to any format that could be converted to my GPS. Is there a way to get a route I've created from Google Maps to either Google Earth or my Garmin 60Cx?
  15. When you place a cache are you looking for a good place to hide it or a location for people to visit? I've placed one cache and have three more scouted out. For my caches I want people go somewhere they haven't been and to see something they haven't seen. For me its more about the destination rather than the hunt. I don't mind a bit of searching for a cache (it's always rewarding to find a well hidden cache) but I'd rather go after a cache that's someplace intresting. Someplace that I may not normally visit.
  16. Having recently bought my first GPSr and laid down more than a few bucks I want to protect the screen from scratches. I'm looking for a screen protector that's basically invisible and will not alter the fidelity of my Garmin 60Cx's screen. Durablity of the screen protector isn't as important to me as its clarity (a screen protector is supposed to get scratched so the actual screen doesn't). I blind bought a screen protector from SheildZone but was very disapointed with it. It had an orange peel texture to it that really throws off the fidelity of the screen. I had found the perfect screen protector for my PSP years ago, it is totally invisible, but I can't recall the manufacture now. I'm not necessarily looking for a screen protector that is cut exactly for the Garmin 60Cx. Its easy enough to cut an existing one to make it fit properly. Do you use a screen protector? If so what is your expierence with it?
  17. I'll add that trying to use the "Find Caches Along a Route" feature doesn't work at all. Clicking on the "Create GPX of Route or KML of Route" links leads to an error:
  18. Correct, this should be done *before* it goes online orotl [Potty language deleted by moderator.] Hopefully they will clear out the bugs in the next day or so.
