  1. Thank you for the quick reply. I did email Vels and got some additional info about your arrivals on Friday night. He confirmed that it would be a series of arrivals between 6pm and midnight. I will see if Vels or any other earlier arrivals might be interested in participating in some kind of Flash Mob event in either the LA area or down by Disneyland perhaps. Not sure where they are staying. Richard.
  2. I just caught on to this thread..... I am the event owner of "Spring Pizza Fling 2" http://coord.info/GC22WBD and noticed that Vels which is just 2 Danes will be attending. For planning purposes I would like to get a better idea of how many more plan to attend. I see you are landing at LAX but no time was given so I'm assuming late morning/early afternoon. If the majority of the Danes CANNOT attend my event I am more than willing to make arrangements for an earlier event CLOSER to Downtown Los Angeles. Spring Pizza Fling 2 is located in the city of Orange or about 15 minutes east of Disneyland for mapping purposes. Within 10-15 miles are hundreds of challenging caches including cache dense areas of Huntington Beach, Cypress, and Fullerton. Looking forward to hearing more about your plans. Regards, Richard/RFO
  3. Thank you Mr. Ben for turning my reasonable question into a Pointless Attack about how you don't like "copious event note making." Isn't that what the IGNORE button is for? My notation about the WRITE NOTE default was specifically for ANYONE who attends events and would find it easier to do so if the drop down box was fixed. So nice to hear from you Ben because in the 6 years I've been caching I've never seen you throw one or even attend one of the 30+ event caches I've put on that everyone loves. Now let's get back to the real meat and potatoes here...bug fixes....thank you very much. P.S. I slightly agree that it would be nice to have Will Attend and Attended "date affected" as I sometimes see newbie cachers marking "ATTENDED" way before the event dates. Thanks again.
  4. A minor note for the GC crew..... On event pages when you go to the drop down box on the logging page and it's default setting is "ATTENDED" instead of "SELECT ONE" which now appears TWICE in this box. Before an event all of the entries are usually a simple WILL ATTEND or WRITE NOTE in regards to TB drops, RSVPs, etc. ATTENDED notes are a "once only" type of note and shouldn't be placed so high in priority on the drop down box list. The original order worked well and I believe it was: WRITE NOTE NEEDS ARCHIVED WILL ATTEND ATTENDED Thanks for reading and I know you guys are working HARD to fix all the little things. Regards, n6uzs
  5. Come check out the Orange County Challenge Series "Around the World in 80 Caches!" All caches will be launched at the opening event on Saturday, March 28 in Lake Forest. Event is close enough for some of those daring San Diego types to drive up and check it out. Around the World in 80 Caches by Jules Verne http://coord.info/GC1MMEF Good luck, n6uzs

  7. While on topic of illegals I saw something at GW6 that you might get a kick out of:
  8. Hello SD Cachers! I hope this is the right thread to post a link to my GW6 group photo pix. A grand total of 84 cachers showed up for both picture opportunities. The SD Cachers sign looked so much NICER than anything that I brought which was all BRIGHT RED NEON posterboard. Feel free to right click and save any of pix and post them in your gallery. http://bgactor2005.googlepages.com/geowoodstockvi We arrived in The OC after an 8 hour drive from Rocklin on Sunday. Brought back 35 TBs. Cya, N6UZS
  9. Not sure if this has been covered so here's some GW6 related info: 9 events around the GW6 area http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...85-58dbffaee201 Caravan Kickoff Flash Mob, 8am Thurs, May 22nd http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...26-9d541ffbf3e8 Not sure if you guys are taking the I-15 route over the Cajon but this event will be followed by breakfast nearby. A handful of the events near GW6 were approved within the last week. It's mayhem up there!

    Palm Z22

I'm running Palm Tungsten E2 with Cachemate plus GSAK on the desktop. Initially had some pdb export issues with GSAK but those magically fixed themselves. I believe you can run GSAK free for about 2 weeks until you get a major nag screen. Pay $18 to unlock and you're set. When downloading Pocket Queries make sure to not limit your search area or you will come up empty. Use filters on GSAK to cut out the stuff you don't want to hunt. Have fun!
  11. I've been a licensed ham radio operator for just over 20 years and have been interested in all kinds of radio transmitters. No one has mentioned the use of low power FM transmitters used in the home real estate market to "advertise" homes for sale. They are only heard about 100 yards and have looping info on them about what's for sale, etc. You can usually hear them on the FM band only. You might want to also look at this now archived cache run by GeoTravis here in Southern California. It was called "FRS Activated Prototype" and anyone with a FRS radio could find it. Read about it here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...0d-23a5ba2b33f8 In the ham radio world there are all kinds of devices which can control transmitters and how long they are on to what of telemetry tones are emitted including Morse Code. However that limits the hunt to ham ops who already own listening gear and scanner enthusiasts. FRS radios are cheap and plentiful and I hope someone takes this idea and runs with it. Have fun, Richard N6UZS
  12. Thanks Shucky for the kudos. A local cacher gave me the direct link to this thread. Various parts of Old Towne Orange are listed in the National Historic Registry including some homes and other landmarks. To see an area webcam where the cache is go here: http://www.cityoforange.org/traffic/PlazaCam.htm Almost forgot to mention that our wonder traffic plaza has been used in many movies and TV shows such as: Small Soldiers Big Momma's House American Pie 3 Sprint commercial Ghost Whisperer TV pilot
  13. I was just in Hollywood earlier this week showing some out of town cachers around. There are 25 caches in the area right around Hollywood and Highland where the Kodak Theater is located. They are mostly spread out but start your search from this virtual, "An American Legend" GCCF88: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...76-44920efe0618 There's a cool multi on the Walk of Fame near Hollywood and Vine called "Walk of Fame." I haven't done it but I hear it's fun to do. Check it out: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...63-3f8f2a8ae36a And for a bonus cache: Another View of the Hollywood Sign http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d5-1018636edf79 This is the CLOSEST you can get to the Hollywood Sign without hiking. Good luck.
  14. Check out Chino Hills State Park on the northern edge of Orange County. There are at least 15 caches in that area that require hiking or biking to them. Some examples are: Gilman Peak Cache, GCZVFT http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fe-4d86308fd4ac Halfway to Gilman Peak, GC100M5 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e6-fc40a7e7b7b2 If you do a Geocaching Maps search you'll find more caches in the area. Info on Chino Hills State Park: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=648 Local LA/OC Cachers website: http://www.socalgeocachers.com Enjoy!
  15. Just my 2 cents but this particular topic does NOT deserve National Attention. It's pretty much a local Southern California issue/dispute at hand just like Perky Perks were saying. If you are still in LA check out the Southern California Geocachers board at http://www.socalgeocachers.com for complete localized info. Regards, Richard N6UZS/RFO
  16. Wow dude we are overflowing with event caches here. I didn't think you'd go thru with the pizza thing since I already have an event on Saturday the 31st as you know at 7am. I will try and make the pizza thing but I have to be up REALLY EARLY on the 31st for our Cachefest. What to do what to do? I guess 2 events are better than one. And yeah I can't wait to hear about your campout. RFO
  17. Cool deal Sax! We will see you here. By the way are the same Saxman that held a campout and what's that all about?
  18. Hey Saxman: It appears that Rich Fullon has been VERY busy trying to get the Socalgeocachers.com site back up. Been down since June 21st and on Thurs night he seemed to restore but today it's down again. As for local pizza or other events for you to attend I would like to offer info on my event cache taking place Saturday, July 31st in Diamond Bar. It's called the Moag Ohana Cachefest and Breakfast and it will be 7am-9am at a Denny's off the 57 Freeway about 1 mile south of the 60. Waypoint is GCJYDE. For awhile there weren't ENOUGH events being held but now with the summer there's my bash in July, a beach party in August, and a mtn campout in Sept. Very busy! Please check out http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...40-e695a540ce01 for more info. Our cachefest will be an opportunity for cachers to go out group caching that day in the Chino Hills and Diamond Bar areas. Hope you can make it, Richard/RFO
  19. I miss SCG too! At this rate they might as well put it on a Commodore 64 for a Web Server. Ha! Cya Saturday, RFO/Raffleticketguy From Orange
