  1. Yeah, it's nice when a good trail fills in over time with a variety of interesting caches, but 15 identical caches hidden at identical intervals isn't particularly interesting. I don't mind power trails as much when they're along bike paths or roads. Personally I can take them or leave them, but they're in spaces that otherwise wouldn't have geocaches anyway so it doesn't feel like such a waste. +1.
  2. Over 14 years of paying for PM and we are more than satisfied.....love Groundspeak and the game.
  3. I've noticed this also. Seems that anything larger than a 35 mm film can is "small" these days and anything larger than a sandwich box is "regular." An ammo box was listed as "large." And of course a "nano" is "other." I have noticed this trend in my area also.
  4. I agree here re Premium membership and GSAK....I'm just planing a long trip with several caching stops ....between each stop PM lets you create Caches Along a Route which can be customized to show you caches within X miles on either side of your route. I also create databases of caches to hunt where I'll be stopping. I've tried the free maps and don't care for the hassle.....I get the Garmin City Navigator on the micro SD card, pop it in and you have detail maps of the whole U.S.
  5. Over 70 here and a few months ago we did 10+ miles through the woods to get a few....point farthest was an earthcache. I ignore puzzles as we don't normally care for them and when we got home ( 500 miles ) I saw we walked by dozens of nice caches.I solved all the puzzles which were nature related and made a GSAK file of just those caches.....with so many to find it may take a day or two when we get back to the area. Nothing new though, I've driven right by Mingo a couple of times over the years and forgot to stop...I may be able to correct that in the next couple of months.
  6. Don't say you didn't sign the log. No nano owner actually checks the unreadable squiggles on the tiny scroll. If you honestly found the nano you found it. If it's a high T rating, say up a tree and you climbed to get it, you found it. Take a photo if you want to have some proof you found it. +1....its not only big hands but arthritic hands and I have both....I make a note of where it was found or take a picture but if someone wants to delete my find thats O.K. , its part of the game.
  7. Among others I own an Oregon and 3-62S units, a 64S , and a 78S. I recommend the 78S.....its a 62S EXACTLY but with a better case...it doesn't have the rubbery cover of the 62 series which gets destroyed along with the buttons ( I think sweaty hands are the culprit )....the case and button arrangement are more ergonomic on the 78. Do some research and check out the 78S.
  8. I agree here....I've always preferred a dedicated GPS unit for geocaching, many of the reasons are mentioned above. I've used my phone for thousands of hours of other activities so its not like I have an anti-phone bias.
  9. All TB's are destined to be lost....the question is how long they last and that is part of the game I play with mine. Nice geocoins disappear really fast.
  10. Go with Garmin.....I recommend the 78S, its a 62S in a better case. The 64S works great but is the same case as the 62.
  11. When we started caching over 14 years ago after the first search my wife said, " If we are going to continue playing this game I want my own GPS unit "......and so it was.
  12. I have 3-62S and a newer 64S. My 62's are always dead on and I haven't noticed the 64S being any better. I just got a 78S ( I always get the unit with a 3 axis compass ) and highly recommend it.....if you liked the 62 when it was preforming you will love the 78S, it is a 62S in a better case and as accurate as any I've ever used.
  13. As a follow up, since it first came out there have been tons of threads about faulty 62 cases, buttons, rubber, etc. I have 3 62S and 1-64S .....I love everything but the case, the rubber deteriorates way too fast.
  14. A 64 does not have a three axis compass. Sorry.....64S.
  15. 60 CSx, 3-62S, 64S.....no problems with power buttons. On two of my 62's the rubber covering is literally coming off.....the 62 my wife uses is O.K. I think its my sweaty, salty hands.
  16. I would get the 64 for the three axis compass, quad antenna, etc but not for the preloaded caches.
  17. Geocaching during the day appears to be a suspicious activity.....at night it appears evil. Of the VERY few times we have cached at night probably 50% of the time we have encountered police...no more for us. My reviewer and I agree all caches should have a " Not AT Night " attribute and that's what I do.
  18. Instead of conducting these forensic investigations of someone's activity on the site, it's best to just focus on the problematic caches individually. Perfectly worded....I love it. Some folks will dig and find a CO's mothers maiden name of a second cousin once removed when they could have added a dry log in 5 seconds.
