  1. This doesn't work on my PDA,as the OS is Windows Pocket PC. Offroad Navigator only works with Linux. I tried it, but it didn't work. heh, you install the OffRoad Navigator on your TomTom. Your TomTom is running Linux. From the webazar.org website: Installation * unzip the downloaded file in the Tomtom Home Content directory, * launch Tomtom Home, * select the software and install it. English language version of Webazar.org
  2. I have a 500LE and no issues with it. It connects to both my Mac and my PC for transferring POI's, Geocaches, and Tracks. I only have to use the PC for transferring TOPO maps to it. Personally, I don't understand the anti-Magellan attitudes. My wife and I both have one, and my parents both have Magellans. None of us have had an issue with one using it for Geocaching.
  3. Agree... I have not done the full PQ's yet. But this seems like the way to go for me as well.
  4. Yes, it will convert multiple LOC files. I do it all the time by downloading multiple LOC files from the link that says "find multiple caches that I haven't found" or something similiar to that. Then I click off the caches I want in the LOC file on that page, and download them and convert them. Forgive me if this makes no sense, I just arrived home from a dinner party and it is a tad late.
  5. Our Magellan wants .gs files, and i don't see that format on the GPSBabel site? Just curious. Thanks, jb It is there under Magellan Explorist Geocaching. Here is link
  6. I think you need Offroad Navigator loaded on your TomTom and that will help you get closer to the caches. http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/offroad.php?lang=uk The URL above will have the software to download to your TomTom and has the directions on how to add the Application to the menu of your TomTom using TomTom Home. This program will allow you to put in real coordinates, and have the TomTom work like a general handheld GPS rather than the superb driving and route finding GPS it is already. Hope this helps.
  7. MapSend Topo3D on my windows machine. Topo software seems to be lacking on the Mac still. Once my work upgrades my powerbook to a macbook pro, I will be running a windows partition for the topo software.
  8. I have an old Zire 71 that has both a USB connection and a SD card slot. I have a 32MB card in there, and store all my cachemate records on that. My wife had this palm unit so long, I don't even remember when we bought it for her. The only thing I hotsync on it now is the cachemate updates I put on it. I don't bother with the maps, and have not investigated getting them on the Zire 71. I assume you could in some way since it does have a rather nice color screen.
  9. The geocache manager software for my Magellan, I didn't like. But, I really like the Magellan unit it self. I just replied to another post where I explain why I like to use GPSBabel+ over the geocache manager software that comes with the Magellan.
  10. I have a 500LE and really like it. So don't worry about all the folks who don't I use GPSBabel+ to convert the LOC files into Magellan Geocaching files. I know some folks convert them to POI, but I prefer to see the little green tupperware boxes on my Magellan. I tried the geocaching manager software you refer to, but I am on a Mac and prefer to use it over my windows computer I have for my geocaching management software. Don't worry, GPSBabel+ works on windows also, and both versions are free. Hope this helps.
  11. Got my jeep TB today, and I live in Alexandria, VA
  12. So.. lets say I am paranoid. How long afterI submit for a jeep with my password can I change my password just to feel safe again?
  13. If you have a a mobile phone that can connect to the internet, you can prove it right there in the open by connecting to http://wap.geocaching.com
  14. Are you sure that you have the USB cable conected correctly? The cable should run down the GPS rather than over the top. This was my problem when I got my explorist. I assumed the cable ran up and over the top of the explorist and not DOWN along the back of the device. It just seems counter-intuitive to me, until I realized it was for the brackets used to hold th device in a car. Once I ran the cable down the back, my USB started working on both my Mac and PC.
  15. I have my 500 hooked up to my Mac's via USB and a 512MB SDcard with no problems. I followed the directions on the site by one of the respondents above, it really did the trick for me. I have also updated it to the latest EU firmware, and didn't have any problems with the base map. But, you should still back it up.
  16. That is nice! I am such a sucker for new bags that I am sure I will be getting one. I use a sling sack from AmeriBag now.
  17. Thanks for the thoughtful comments on this thread. I have had some of the same thoughts, like what software to use (free obviously, and most like a Java application to run on all the OS')? Should I use a password for the file I hide? etc. I have time to think on it, as I want to be sure my cache won't get muggled before I post the cache here. Thanks again.
  18. I just placed a micro cache out in the wild I am planning on leaving it there a week before I publish the coords for it, just to be sure that it won't be muggled quickly. The question I had for the crew here: if I used some steganography to hide the coords would it be too hard for folks to find them. Or understand what I had done?
  19. I didn't install the POI via the TomTom Home application. This is how I installed the POI to the best of my recollection. 1. I downloaded all the .LOC files from geocaching.com that I wanted, then I used a text editor to put them all into one file that I called Geocaching.LOC 2. Ran GPSbabel to convert the LOC file into an OV2 file for the TomTom, name Geocaching.ov2 3. Created on the TomTom unit itself a new POI Category, via the following steps: Select Change Preferences, then Manage POIs, then Add POI Category. I created a category called Geocaching (the upper and lower case must match your OV2 file name) leaving off the .ov2 in the category name. 4. Connected my TomTom to the computer, and opened the SD card in the TomTom via Finder/Explorer (depending on if you are using a mac or pc). 5. Copied the Geocaching.ov2 file into the North America folder (where there exists a Geocaching.bmp file since I created the Category on the TomTom). 6. Disconnect TomTom from USB and reboot. This should allow you to update the ov2 file with new locations if you choose, and just simply move it onto your TomTom directly to use it. (I answered this on this thread earlier)
  20. Download the GUI version, and skip the command line. That is what I did.
  21. Let the Mac vs. PC flame war begin http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/ "Computer Cart" is the most relevant one to your comment above
  22. This is not my site, but I used both of these tutorials to get me started on gpsbabel on my Mac and my magellan. This might help you through to use it on your Garmin. GPX to GPS http://www.illformedpragma.com/index.php?/...-GPX-to-GS.html LOC to GPS http://www.illformedpragma.com/index.php?/...-LOC-to-GS.html
  23. I have a TomTom 300 and my wife has a TomTom One. I have Offroad navigator installed on my TomTom 300 (it works on the One and 510 also) for geocaching and off road type activities. You can find Offroad Navigator here: http://www.webazar.org/tomtom/plugins.php?lang=uk
