  1. A couple months ago my grandson, who is 15, and I took a french foreign exchange student out to search for a cache that I had been wanting to hit for some time. It is at the bottom of the tallest bridge in Oregon. Just as we reached the bottom of the hill that we had just come down 150' of rope (approx.), we found a dead girl who had been missing for about a week. Nothing gruesome, but we pretty much ran back up the rope. Got to a phone and called 911. Gave plenty of statements. Still haven't been back...
  2. Many (most? all?) park rangers are also peace officers. That makes it their jurisdiction. Jim Ever since Claude Dallas (sp?) I've seen a lot more armed rangers and I don't blame them. They do have the ability to enforce the law. However they are still rangers and not State Troupers. That was my point. I'm afraid I don't see your point. Yes park rangers do not administer the grounds of a rest area, generally that falls under the the state DOT. However, as a peace officer they are responsible for enforcing laws. That park ranger could pull you over and give you a speeding ticket even though that is not their "jurisdiction". Jim I truly doubt that. However I'll ask next time I cross paths with a ranger. Actually park rangers have considerable power. More than most people realize. Yes, they CAN give you a speeding ticket. In many cases, they have more authority and a larger jurisdiction that most of the local police or sheriffs. They also have years more schooling and years more training then either police OR sheriffs.
  3. This is a .50 cal. ammo can covered with vinyl car wrap material. The tag on the TB is also printed on the same stuff and then applied to a corrugated plastic card that I then grommeted. The camouflage pattern is actually a photograph that I took of the bark of an old dead log, laying not far from where the cache was place. The tag for the TB turned out really cool too. Not only does it have all the text info on it, it also has a picture (lightly printed) of the view from where it was originally placed. I have also just wrapped about 10 more (upcoming) new cache containers. These are covered with mossy oak cammo. Also printed on car wrap vinyl. Only these I did using scraps from a job. They use the very best 3M Controltac vinyl and lamination. No fancy lettering on them though. If anyone wants pictures, just ask and I will post them. I am thinking about marketing kits. The stuff is pretty EXPENSIVE though. Would anyone be interested in this sort of thing?
  4. A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I were out at one of our favorite spots; atop a cliff overlooking a beautiful Southern Oregon beach. We had our two daschunds, Fritz and Lilly, with us. I had to run back to the truck and had taken Fritz with me. When I returned, my wife told me to sit on the bench and look around and see if I could see anything. It only took a minute and there it was. Our first cache find! Actually, Lilly found it! Had it not been for her nose and curiosity, I wouldn't be typing this now. My wife had heard of GeoCaching but I hadn't. We went home and checked out the site. A couple days later we went searching just useing our knowledge of the area. We found 4! A few days after that, I picked up a cheap gps from a pawn shop. Yesterday we found 10! WOOHOO! (thanks Lilly!)
