  1. I have a Geobuddy that would like to pay for my membership renewal "before" it is renewed in March. Is this possible without losing the time from now until March or should he just wait until the actual date of the renewal? Thanks in advance. Pattycat
  2. I am now in the process of, (actually I've been thinking of "things" to do for awhile now ), planning many events for this years event cache. I am wondering though, for those of you that attended last years event and for those that know this particular area, if having it at Wapiti Lake again is a good idea. So I'm not only looking for an answer to this but I'm always open to suggestions of other areas. I really don't want to have this event too far from home, Cranbrook of course. If anyone has any suggestions on a place to hold this years event cache that isn't going to cost us anything, ie: camping fees and such, let's hear them. As well, if you have a suggestion of a particular weekend to hold this event, let's hear that too. I like to hold them on a long weekend too so keep that in mind as there really aren't many long weekends available that will have good weather but of course we don't know what the weather is going to be like. As I'm sure many can remember one nasty but still fun event cache where it rained for the entire 7 days that I was there. Thanks in advance and I'm hoping to meet many more Geocachers this year as the number of attendees continues to rise each year. Stayed tuned for more info or you can always go to www.kootenaygeocachers.ca and check out the entire site. It's not a large as Groundspeak.com but it has a ton of info that some may be interested in. I may forget to post more info here and I'm sorry in advance. _________________ Happy Geotrails to all.
  3. I have several different Geocoins and I would definitely be interested in purchasing these ones if they come available. I not only keep one for myself but I put them in caches for a special gift and give them away as prizes at the event caches I organize. I think it's a great idea to have a BC Coin made specifically from BC and I believe there would be a great interest from all over the world to not only see one but to purchase some. Thanks. Pattycat
  4. Hi all Geocachers, guess what time it is? I am planning this year’s event cache (#3) and I am looking for some input. This years event cache will take place July 30th, 31st, and August 1st. I will of course be there before the start date and I usually stay a day after the event has ended. I will be selecting a different camping area other than the previous ones for the #1 and #2 event caches, (hopefully). Anyone have any suggestions? Actually I have one picked out but I will have to investigate some more because I do not want to have the event cache at a camping area that we must pay for (which I think it is) but I am willing to hear any suggestions. Another item I would like to ask some input on is if anyone has any ideas for things to do at the event cache. I want to do some different things although I do have some ideas already. (Some that I used previously for any Geocachers that attended the first 2 event caches). It involves decryption key use. There will also be some Q & A’s so buck up on your knowledge. And I also have an idea to win a prize and if it goes okay I think you’ll all get a kick out of it. Stay tuned to the cache page for updates and more info which you will need to know before arriving. Geoscav anyone? There will also be a 50/50 draw as well as finding some wee caches that are part of a game I have devised. As usual there will be a pot luck lunch/dinner which I have yet to determine what day to have it on. Suggestions? As far as prizes I have some picked out such as the door prize, the first to arrive prize, as well as the furthest distance traveled prizes. (Different from 2004's). There will be a poker run but because I have had to use the bucks out of my own pocket for the last 2 event caches (for most of the items), this year each hand will be $5.00 which will go to paying for the gifts that I purchased and if needed for next years event cache. Nothing will be going into my pocket. I am also requesting that anyone attending this years event cache whether for just a day or the entire weekend, please bring a cache goodie. That could be a container of whatever kind, a log book, pencil, and such, or the cache goodies themselves. These will be used as part of the game I devised so I’ll need all the help I can get. As I previously stated, I can’t do the entire cost myself this time. And last but not least, in 2003, 21 Geocachers attended; in 2004, 24 Geocachers attended, and I believe all had a good time at both events no matter if we couldn’t have a fire as in 2003 and it rained and rained in 2004. I am hoping for a bigger turn out as this year’s event cache may be the last one I do depending on how this one goes. It is pretty tough to do these on your own, (money out of pocket I mean) but I sure enjoyed doing them. The best thing I got out of doing the event caches was meeting all the Geocachers that I didn't know and seeing the ones I already met. I'm hoping to see them again at this year’s event cache too as well as more that I can get to know. So stay tuned for further updates as you will need to know some things before you attend the event cache. A hint on this I could give as; what is your Geocaching name? I know that doesn’t make sense at this time but that is why you need to keep an eye on the cache event page once I am allowed to post it which is not until 3 months before the actual event. I believe I can post this the last days of April if not the first of May. Feel free to email me with any questions, suggestions, or comments you may have at pattycat@shaw.ca and thanks in advance and hope to meet many more Geocachers at this year’s event cache as well as ones I’ve already met.

    Event Caches

Hi again, Well it looks like there is no one either interested in getting back to me on this topic or no one has anything to say. Thanks anyway.

    Event Caches

Hi all, I am planning this year’s event cache (#3) and I am looking for some input. I will be selecting a different camping area other than the previous ones for the #1 and #2 event caches. Anyone have any suggestions? Actually I have one picked out but I will have to investigate some more but I am willing to hear any suggestions. Events are held in the East Kootenay's as there are many many caches to find and it is a nice area to be in. Another item I would like to ask some input on is if anyone has any ideas for things to do at the event cache. I want to do some different things although I do have some ideas already. (Some that I have already used for any of you Geocachers that attended the first 2 event caches). And I also have some new ones that if used, may blow you away. Also I would really appreciate any input on "when" the best long weekend would be to hold this year’s event cache. For those that don't know, the first one was on the August long weekend in 2003 and we could not have any fires do to the dryness and the 2004 event cache was held on the July 1st long weekend when we could have fires but it rained to beat the band. As far as prizes I have some picked out such as the door prize, the first to arrive prize, as well as the furthest distance traveled prizes. (Different from 2004's). There will be a poker run but because I have had to use the bucks out of my own pocket for the last 2 event caches (for most of the items), this year it will be $5.00 per hand which will go to paying for the gifts that I purchase. So any input that anyone has will be appreciated and I look forward to what you have to say and suggest.
  8. Hi again, I just tried to email you will all this info but it doesn't recognise the above address but it's here now. Thanks again. Pattycat
  9. Hi, Just read your article on "if anyone has had an injury while Geocaching". I would like to tell you about a couple of injuries I have had, one not bad, the other, pretty bad. My buddy and I were out searching for a new cache and the GPS said we were way out of reach of it unless we traversed the hillside so up we went. After quite some time of searching we discovered we either cannot find the cache or it just is not where it says it is. While my buddy and I were coming down the hillside, which is fairly steep, I grabbed for a log that had not quite fallen down all the way and looked very sturdy. To my great surprise the log decided to continue its fall with me hanging on to it. As a result my one knee got quite bashed in and so did my ego I guess. I did however survive to continue Geocaching with just some cuts and bruises but I say to anyone out there, “Take care of grabbing on to something that looks fairly sturdy or that looks as though it will not go anywhere if you use it to get yourself down off a hillside”. (Or whatever). And not long after this incident another Geocacher did the same thing looking for the same cache and came away with some minor injuries to one knee. That's the not so bad one. The “pretty bad” one is where I totaled my vehicle. It was a Saturday night about 10:30, I was Geocaching alone this time without my buddy, it was getting dark and it was raining. I was not in unfamiliar territory however the scenery changes dramatically from daytime to nighttime. I was going under 60 kilometers an hour, a hillside to my right, the Bull River to my left, and coming down a road with a bit of an incline and a wee right turn. There stood 3 deer in the split second it took to go around the curve. I did not stomp on my brakes big time but I did use them a wee bit. I was also very aware of the Bull River down the embankment and did swerve to miss the deer but only a slight movement of the steering wheel. However the wet pea gravel caught me and in a nanosecond I was upside down with my vehicle sliding down the embankment. I somehow survived the crash with minor injuries and the deer survived as well however my Geobeast did not. I now have a newer Geobeast and I am on the Geotrails once again. All I have to say to anyone driving in the conditions I was is, “Take care when traversing down ANY back country roads and DON’T swerve for any critters.” Although I like critters very much I believe had I not touched my steering wheel and just hit the darn deer all would have been better in the long run. "And wear your seatbelt as that is the only thing that saved my life." Thanks very much and I hope you write your book. Not that I wish anyone any pitfalls or hill falls or embankment falls or whatever you'd like to call it but I bet it would be an interesting read. Pattycat [)]
  10. I Geocache most of the time on my own and when I'm out there, wherever there may be, I usually don't think about it. If I did I probably wouldn't go out. I did have a wee experience one time though that sent the willies through me. I was searching for a new cache way up in the boonies and low n behold I see an adult male wielding a machete. He was probably wondering what the heck I was doing way in the middle of nowhere but I also had to wonder about him but why did he have a machete? Although I did get the willies I continued on my hunt after we said hi to each other. Perhaps he was just a young fellow practicing some type of martial arts but with a machete???? That is the only time I've had an experience like that. I have however come upon bear sign or the bear itself but I carry a whistle and make a lot of noise so I believe any bears in the bush would be scared out of their wits hearing me ramble on. But this question sure makes a person think twice about where they are going and of course there are more critters out there than just bears so thank you. Pattycat [)]
  11. Thanks muchly for the good advice Team DEMP. It worked. I don't know why I didn't figure that out for myself except maybe for the fact the I had just gotten back into town after the geocachers event cache I organize, it rained all the time which was most disappointing, and I think that took much out of me. And of course I've never had to change my password. Thanks again. Pattycat [)]
  12. Hi all, I just recently "HAD" to give my geocaching password to a good buddy of mine (because I was at the "New" spot) so he could post the new event place with the coords and email geocachers of the change to coords. But that's not a problem. He is not a premium member and he used my premium membership to do the pocket queries. That's not a bad thing but if he wants to use the pocket queries then he should become a premium member. (Don't ya think?) Don''t get me wrong, he is a very good buddy but now that he has my password to geocaching.com I do want to change it. He's not a person that would do anything bad but I just feel the need to change it but I don't know how. I've looked all around the site but I maybe getting senile. But I did just get home from the Annual Geocachers Event Cache and it's been a long week for me. I'd appreciate the info if someone could help me out. Thanks in advance. Pattycat [)]
  13. Thank you again and I'll be getting right under my vehicle now to have a look see and hopefully I can see it and take it out of there. Pattycat
  14. Thanks very much for your suggestion. I will give this a try. I have picked up most if not all of the nesting bits however there is more than one place she puts these. I find plant and hood lining debris all over and I've just picked it out and threw it on the ground. I will give your suggestion a try but can I do it now that I've thrown all the pieces to the ground or do I have to wait until she rebuilds. Thanks again and I sure hope this does the trick. Pattycat
  15. Hi all out there in Geocaching land. I have a question for you that does not pertain to Geocaching and I sure hope someone out there can help me. How do I get rid of a packrat that has made HER house under the hood of my vehicle? I believe I brought her home this passed Monday morning and I discovered the nest on Tuesday morning when my "check engine" light came on and I took my vehicle in to get looked at. I've driven many kilometers since finding the nest and you'd think that the heat from the engine would kill her but she isn't dead yet as I've just found more nest debris. She is chewing the lining from under the hood to make her nest as well as getting plant items. I also think she may have had her babies as I saw some very small poop. When my vehicle is parked for any great length of time I'm keeping the hood up so that she can't continue to make her nest but with the hood up, it may give someone ideas to take my battery or whatever so I'm really hoping someone out there has some suggestions. I've tried using the water hose, I'm tried banging on my vehicle, honking the horn, playing the radio very loud for awhile, and also some WD40 and none of this is working. Some people have suggested I use rat poison however I have a cat and if the female packrat eats the poison, then feeds her babies, the babies and/or her may eventually come out from under the hood to the ground and my cat would surely eat it/them, hence, ingesting the rat poison as well so I don't really want to try that. She hasn't chewed through any wires or hoses that I know of but one of these times she might. As well, where I work there are many more packrats so any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again? Sorry this is a long one but I'm in desparate need of some help. Thanks in advance. Pattycat
  16. Thanks Stunod for showing me all the acronym meanings. One or all could come in useful one of these days.......for some reason or another but only one pertaining to Geocaching right? Right! But thanks anyway.
  17. Pattycat saying hi, I am not a lurker nor a stalker of any sort. When I have a question that no one I've asked can answer then I come here to ask it. I sure don't like to read all the crap/bad stuff here and boy there sure is some "stuff". Fighting angry stuff? Wow. I thought this was a fun thing to do. Why do people get so angry at so little? Granted I don't read everything so I don't know at all why some are angry but....sorry it's just the way I feel. Isn't life supposed to be fun? Isn't that why Geocaching was invented???? Well, at least I have fun geocaching and when I've posted a question I've gotten a decent response back and that's fun too. And thanks to all that have responded by the way.
  18. So hey briansnat....if I posed the question in an event cache game, what is "the" appropriate answer? Both or is it just one, general purpose register? Sounds like you may be saying it's both. Sorry but I'm dull on this, obviously cuz I had to ask. The way you answered my query could be taken two ways....it is, or is it. So could you let me know what the difference is? Please. Thanks again.
  19. Hey I really was wanting to know what GPR stands for so I could use this question for an event cache game. I'm sure not too many people know what it stands for, (at least I'm hoping) and I sure didn't. The person/people who get this question correctly know what they are talking about and will be one step closer to winning. No offense but this wasn't a joke. But I appreciate your input.
  20. Thank you for the info and yes it was General Public Register I was after but I still can't remember where I read it. It may be a question that not many people know the answer to and that is what I was looking for. Thanks again and Happy Geocaching.
  21. Hi, I'm just wondering what the difference between a GPS and a GPR are if any. I did read GPR somewhere but now I can't seem to find out where I read it so I'm throwing this question out here. Please help as this question is going to be on an upandcoming event cache. Thanks in advance. Pattycat
  22. Well how silly of me then? If only I'd remember everything then things would be okay. Shortly after I posted this question the answer came to my wee brain. Thanks - from a wee gray haired ole geocaching lady. Pattycat )
  23. I have a few TBugs out there and I am able to watch all of them except my latest one which is Limbo Legs. Nowhere on the TBug page is there "watch this TBug" and I'm sure that there used to be. Is there now a limit to how many you can own and watch? And not to worry, I'm a charter member so I can watch how many of whatever I want to watch. So can someone help me out with this? Since it's a new TBug I'd really like to see where it's gone/going but I don't seem to be able to. Thanks in advance. Pattycat

    geocoins

Hello..I'm trying to find out how to log a Canadian geocoin that I added to someones cache. Also I had put a Canadian geocoin into a cache I hid but did not know how to log it as being in there (but now I do) however it's already been taken out of this cache and is traveling. Is there anyway to log it as it 'was' in that cache or no? Too late now? Thanks in advance. Pattycat
