  1. I've only gotten one FTF since I've started. I'm happy just having that one. GC1ACCJ I was pretty lucky getting it though. We took a weekend trip to the beach so I took the GPS with me and stopped to find it on our way home. I figured it would have been found after several days of being out but it wasn't. My advice is to just sign up as a premium member and get the email that tells you about new caches. I'd only go with a resonable distance. You really don't want to drive 50 miles just to find out somebody already grabbed it and didn't log it yet.
  2. I actually found my first 30 without a GPS. I couldn't afford one at the time. I see nothing wrong with it. Its much more difficult to find them without one though. Personally when it comes to Members only Caches I don't care either way. Like somebody said before they are either the best thing in the world or the very worst thing in the world its all a matter of opinion.
  3. Brain Food(GCHYGD) in Gresham Oregon. I'm not going to give any spoilers away but I enjoyed it greatly.
  4. What does everybody think about cachers that have more hides then finds. Is it normal? To me it seems like they haven't quite gotten down what a good hide is yet and are just taking up spots that for the most part aren't a good spot anyways or can have a more clever hide. Take today for example. I went and found a cache that was put out lastnight. Number one you have to walk within 5 feet of a homeless camp to get to the trail, number two you have to hike through a virtual forest of stinging nettle(without any kind of warning in the description) Number 3 there is a huge no motor vehicles sign with a no trespassing sign right below it. And Finally the terrain rating is only a 2 when it should be a 3 or a 3.5. Now to my point do I mention this to the cache owner or wait and see what other finders say?
  5. Sticking stuff on a monument like that is trashy, cheap, cheesy and insulting. Even if done with 'permission'. Some things are just wrong on the face of it such that respectful caring responsible people just won't do it. Being a member of the geocaching community does not excuse someone from observing basic decency. I've seen this type stuff more than once and am totally repulsed every time. YOU ARE Soooooooooooooo WRONG Velcro on Monuments? It works for me Mission Impossible has been in place since 2003 , and yes it does release after about six months and leaves no adhesive trace and have permission for placement and hide method Go for it Joe I think the key here is you got permission to place it in this manner. I'm not sure of many places which WILL give permission for this type of hide...so congrats! I can't think of many places which would WANT people climbing on, groping about or whatever while searching on or around an historic or cultural monument. I'm for respecting our monuments. Also, to the OP....maybe you should run it past your reviewer before going to much trouble, they might not like the hide themselves... How do I get in contact with my local reviewer? I've never done that before? I mean I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was magnetic as that wouldn't hurt a metal mast at all. But Velcro I'm not to keen on. I did some checking and it seems the person that put the cache out has had a few others taken down for not getting permission and things like that.
  6. OMG Somebody would die for doing that lol. Actually the monument in question is the mast of the USS Oregon. I know it doesn't mean much to most people. But to others its a state treasure.
  7. Just curious on what the general consensus is on somebody placing a micro cache on a historic monument with velcro? This was just done here in Oregon and I personally feel that its not entirely a good thing. I would figure that it would upset the park service as well as several groups that take care of this monument? What do you all think
  8. I was just wondering if anybody uses the standard yellow Etrex and what their views are on it. I see quite a few of them on ebay for fairly decent prices. Are they fairly accurate? I really don't need to many bells and whistles. I just want something nice and basic that will get the job done.
  9. That looks like a cool puzzle cache. I'm pretty sure I figured it out. Although I can hardly ever do that so I might be wrong lol. Here is one I've been working on and can't seem to figure out Hard Rock Cachet
  10. You know if you go and buy a new one the old one will show up. But then I guess you would have a spare lol.
  11. My other two hobbies aren't cheap either. Metal Detecting and Civil War Reenacting. Both of those seem to cost more then this.
  12. You can also use Mapquest. I'm not sure if its any better then Google Earth, but its worth a shot.
  13. It can be done. I know that for a fact. Since I'm up to 44 caches and still don't have a gps. I use GE all the time. But like everybody said it can be off by a good distance.
  14. I'm still fairly new to GeoCaching and was wondering if one of these units would make a decent unit to start out with. I've seen several of them for fairly cheap and don't really want to spend to much money as I don't make all that much.
  15. I work at a Target just down the road and they have a $1 section. At the moment they have several different camping items. A safety whistle, glow sticks, space blanket, first aid kit, poncho, stuff like that. Do you all think that those would be good trade items. Because I sure get tired of the dirty golf balls and plastic army men lol
  16. I use Google Earth all the time and get tired of that. But then half of my town shows up all blurry lol. I did discover that for my town mapquest shows up better then Google Earth. Might be something to try out.
  17. I'm fairly new to Geo Caching and don't have a GPS yet. But I still go out and try to find them without having one. Has anybody else ever tried this and is it against the rules. I've found 10 so far this way. Granted it is a bit tougher then normal. But Since I go Metal Detecting as well I seem to have an eye for things that seem out of place. Whats your opinion.
