  1. Our Travel Bug Major Tom is jealous http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=57522 . He has witnessed a Shuttle Launch and walked on the Moon, but hasn't been in Space (yet)!
  2. Unless you spend ALL of your time caching, you've heard that GeoWoodstock VI will be in Wheatland, California, just north of Sacramento, on Saturday, May 24, 2008. In order to make this the biggest and best GeoWoodstock ever, we're asking for help from our geo-neighbors. We're looking for sponsors, sponsor contacts, geo-swag vendors, donations for the silent auction, raffle, registration bags, etc. Contact GWVIsponsors@gmail.com if you can help us out here. We're also going to need many volunteers. It's a great way to meet people, so if you have special skills we can use now or are willing to give us a couple hours of your time on the day of the event, please contact us at website below. You can register for this monumental event, volunteer, or get more information (like what the heck is a GeoWoodstock), at GeoWoodstockVI.com. thanks! Bill and Debby Fund-raising committee

  4. Somebodys got to make sure it isn't a vacation light bulb.
  5. It would be a great feature if the total number of queries listed on the page could be given. Under the pink "Create a new query" box would be the ideal place, but where it says "You can create up to 40 queries" could be extended with "and you currently have 25 queries". - Debby
  6. This cache is actually at the posted coords - but there is no "container" as listed on the cache types explained page for a traditional: GCKWCM
  7. I just this in the cache type description, "The only commonality of this cache type is that the coordinates listed are not of the actual cache location...". Unfortunately, it looks like people are using this category incorrectly. But than if a traditional is "at a bare minimum, a container and a log book", where would flat caches fit it? It still looks like another category is needed.
  8. It would be useful to have the Unknown cache type be split into 2 types - Unknown, where the cache is at (or the adventure starts at) the posted coords and Puzzle, where the cache is not at the posted coords, but must be figured out given information in the cache page. There would be a time savings for those of us that travel alot and like to solve puzzles beforehand if time permits. Otherwise, we filter out all unknowns and may be missing some good caches. I couldn't find a previous discussion on this, so please post a link if there has been one. Debby
  9. Not everybody reads the forums and he's right - catching the server errors and replacing them with a message like "We're sorry the service is so slow. We are currently testing our equipment to serve you better. Try again after 5PM PST" would be more informative and customer oriented. I usually don't read the forums, but because my job is focused now on increasing the performance of our web app, this thread has been interesting.
  10. Thanks LD - I just figured that out (D'oh).
  11. I have a bookmark in a list that is non-shared and non-public, but the bookmark listing is showing up on the webpage for the cache anyway. I'd prefer the list not be public. What do I need to change?
  12. Most of the changes look great in FF 1.5, but the blue background in the logs makes it harder to scan through them then it was before. My eyes have to adjust each time the color changes - it's pretty distracting. Maybe if the colors were more similar in tone it would be better?
  13. Interesting. I have seen error after error with this method. You might be sending people to a cleaners or to a drug store somewhere nearby. Google maps misses my house, for example. Are you sure your method is accurate within say 50 feet? It would be nice if you actually used your GPS at the site rather than on your couch. If you don't want to participate in the activity correctly then those of us who do would appreciate it if you would not guess as to whether you got it right or not. I personally took the time to visit the two free WIFI spots I have waymarked so far. I'm sure future seekers of these waymarks will appreciate the time I took to make sure my waymark listing is indeed accurate. Mostly I was just trying out the new site, and chose something close (Consider it a beta entry). The coords couldn't have been too far off though, since someone already found it. I'm trying to stay open to all these changes to the game we love so much, but I don't have the time to keep up with all the different forum topics and information is hard to find. What Jeremy just said about the numbers makes me nervous and I'll have to be nervous until a) he spills the beans and I find time to search for the answer, so I'll be nervous for awhile. It'll be a great day when Groundspeak.com has the money for a marketing person. (The previous statements were not made to tick anybody off - I'm just in a state of frustrating confusion) This may have been discussed elsewhere, but will events, which usually don't envolve finding a piece of Tupperware, stay on gc.com or go to wm.com?
  14. I played with Waymarking for about an hour a couple of days ago. Sat on the chair and waymarked my local brewpub and "found" an internet site. The big difference between Waymarking and geocaching is that I only used my GPS (iQue 3600) to calculate the coords from the address, which I had gotten off the internet (I had eaten dinner there a couple of days before, so this wasn't a random choice). I haven't been back to the site, but I suspect there are lots of waymarks and finds that could be done without a GPS and without leaving the house. On the other hand, geocaching, whether it's a virtual or a traditional cache, gets me out of the house and often on a trail. And with locationless caches, I've learned more about, for instance, bridges then I ever thought I would. I liked the randomness of the categories of the locationless caches. It made the find more challenging and rewarding. One more thing, please don't start up a WalMart category on the Waymarking site - we can find the local "WallyWorld" using the lamppost caches without that. My vote (if I had one) would be to grandfather in at least the current virtuals and locationless caches on the gc.com site. Debby
  15. Are they going to be silver and not gold even though CA is the golden state?
  16. Hey - we're on that list. I guess we're famous!
  17. You had me going with that Studod being Larry Storch. If we're talking the Larry Storch of F-Troop fame, then that isn't him! And Wil Wheaton found a few caches some time ago. It doesn't look like he has cached for awhile; can he still be called a cacher? Who's Jolly B Good?
  18. Will the Tshirts ordered with registration be grey (I hope)? I don't see that choice on the page.
  19. I like the original with the gold pan and "Eureka" on the back, too. On the front, how about replacing the bridge with a redwood, the Hollywood sign with a palm, forget the highway and cities (to simplify it) and add an oak tree in the central valley? Any chance these can be ready before GeoWoodstock at the end of May? Debby
  20. One of our all-time favorites is Columba. It's a letterbox virtual and worth every step.
  21. How log before the new coins are ready? Can we still get the older version if the new ones aren't ready before GeoWoodstock III the end of May? thanks
  22. I discovered the GC.COM KB by accident while looking at another forum. I didn't know it existed. How does one navigate to it from the home page? thanks
  23. How about being born in Modesto? Can I be an honorary member? (or do we already come around too often?) Debby
