  1. my vista cx will give me about 30 hours of battery life with waas enabled, the real battery killer is the backlight with the color screen, if i run the backlight all the time i get about 15-20 hours. yak!
  2. Oh its a badge of shame alright, I know..... I got plenty lol
  3. A good tip for estimating distance is what we called a "pace count" in the army . visit a local football field and walk at a natural pace from goal line to goal line, counting the number of times your left foot strikes the ground, then when ever you find you need to go a certain distance with out the help of your GPSr just count your steps. although not Exact, with practice it can be a very accurate way to know how far you have walked:)
  4. My Vista Cx is the same, either Dead-on or Way-off the key i have found is patience. look at the accuracy display to give you an idea how close you are. also i have had good luck with watching the"satellite" page or menu that list actual coordinates rather than the compass or goto pages that show your proximity to the objective. also try taking a few steps and standing still for a few seconds to let it "settle" down. something to keep in mind is the "20 foot rule" dont expect the GPSr to put you dead on a cache. let it get you within a 20 foot area then you have to search a little. best of luck and happy caching!!!! Also make sure you have the latest software version from www.garmin.com
  5. Well as I have posted several times on this thread I realise I have not taken a stand on the topic at hand so here goes. I believe on that high speed Star Wars graphic I would log a cache found with a group ( my wife and 4 kids are most often with me)and thats about as far left as I go. I did find a cache to be missing once ,posted a noteto that effect then after the owner replaced it I went back and signed the paper log then logged a find on the site. as for multiple event logs, I have yet to attend an event ( although plan to soon) i think if i attend the event multiple times i'll log as such,(not sure if that is physically possible but i am willing to try:P) but if I only attend once i would log once then make a note in my handy dandy geocaching notebook with how many caches i found at the event so I can keep count, because even tho it is not the driving force behind the sport i DO like to see my own numbers. that said i still dont think this is a major issue and it really doesnt bother me what others do while logging thier finds.
  6. ok I think i see how it goes now thanks to all for thier posts
  7. When i was active on eBay there was a seller who sold boxes of 2 part labels. Normally these labels might cost around $40 for the box. He sold the labels for about $12/box and then ordered the UPS labels on his account and had them delivered to peoples houses for free. It cost the seller nothing but they kept all the profit. In the long run UPS was eating the cost due to a loophole in their system. This seller sold thousands of these and their only cost was the listing fee on eBay and their time. eBay didnt care because they made money. UPS was so big they didnt care either. Who died because of it? No one i think. Did that make it ok what the seller did? Use your own moral compass here. Lots of things dont kill people, but that doesnt make them right. I dont care about someone elses finds or ours for that matter. But it sure does clog up the event pages and alter the amount of event caches that are shown on someones profile. so you do care? or you dont? im confused While dishonesty will prevail, does that mean we have to embrace it? Some have said your anology is way off. Actually I think it is perfect, and embodies every thing i am trying to say. basically in your example NO ONE CARES, and that should be the case here also. you say follow your own moral compass, I couldnt agree more, but with the freedoms we have in the USA everyones moral compass is a little different and thats ok too, as long as no one is being harmed cheated or stolen from,ETC. Now if and when GS takes a stand and makes a rule we have a topic here. But for now i think we can all agree to disagree, some say its wrong, some say its ok , I say it is irellevant, numbers of cache finds does not affect anyones life, health or wealth, it does not break any currrent rules that anyone has noted so far, so does it really matter? now that i have said my piece i shall sit back and watch every one tear into me because im SOOOOO wrong, but after spending 8 years in the army (and a couple of those overseas) fighting for YOUR right to disagree with me I enjoy seeing juSt that. Exercise your right to think differently

  9. This is neat. and a fairly common topic. Consider this...... How many people died yesterday because someone logged an event or cache multiple times? How many died today? and tomorrow? seems like a pretty pathetic complaint to me in the overall scheme of things. If you are so concerned about some one having more finds than you, you should seek professional help. if there were a 20 million dollar prize for the most finds then this would be a topic worth discussing. (and I would be doing ALOT more searching) I think what I am really trying to say is calm down, grow up, get a life, and stop whining. No matter what we do some people will always be dishonest, will you let a few ruin the enjoyment of the many? I can certainly tell you that those few will NEVER affect my life or my enjoyment of geocaching (again, unless there is a 20 million dollar prize)
  10. I am interested in volunteering to review new cache listings but I cant seem to find any links or places to sign up. any thoughts or knowledge would be helpful

If you want make me an offer. these are selling new right now for 225 at walmart.com minus the car adapter i bought one a few weeks ago
