  1. I am using a 60csx with a 4gb sdhc (sandisk) card (not the ultra II model). works fine for me.
  2. I would highly recommend researching the Garmin 60csx for your needs. It is great for auto navigation with routing, holds topo maps for backwoods and highly sensitive receiver for geocaching in the woods where reception will be lost in cheaper models. The price has been dropping quickly due to the release of the colorado. my two cents...
  3. I just switched over to paperless using GSAK on my computer and CACHEMATE on my Palm M500 ($30 ebay) and wow!! too many times i would get to a cache and not even know what i was looking for (micro, ammo box ect..) now i have hints, logs, description ect.. im am not PDA smart but the process was fairly simple (http://65.34.18.106/content.php?article.15) that web site gives you step by step. thanks all for this topic, it guided me in the right direction.
  4. i agree i would love to have them seperated, (then we wouldnt have to do all those "tricks" suggested to keep them straight). it is a much different hunt and we should be able to filter them. i personnally dont care for micros (especially in the woods, come on!!) and so it would be nice to have that filter so i could avoid them in the search pages and not spend most of my time weeding them out of the search results when i want to hunt Normal sized caches.
  5. You can also get cards for your laptop from your cell phone service provider, you can search online and drive down the highway at the same time. Not sure what the prices run but may be worth looking into.
  6. I also carry a small revolver (with permit) but i take it with me to most anyplace that is secluded or new to me. i wish i didnt feel it is necessary but it is more of a sense of security rather than anything else. Im more concerned about other people than the wildlife. Anyone seen the movie's Deliverance or Wrong turn? there's a good reason. haha. I think overdoing it is slightly rediculas, like the guys that work in the gun store, they have a elephant killer on there hip with 3 extra clips, a gun under each arm, then a "back up" on there ankle just incase, oh ya, dont forget the quick open "special ops" knife taped to there forearm. one small gun "just incase" is one thing but preparing your self for a one man war is another, those guys need to put down the guns and go make some friends, they scare me the most. watch, wallet, car keys, cell phone are also included in this category. as for geocaching adventures specifically: GPSr my dog (part of the reason i do it, exercise for both of us) water bottle bug spray lightweight cloth gloves (for sorting through brush) pen notepad disposable camera trade items cache website printouts hat (helps with ticks) 2 small maglights gerber multipurpose tool all this neatly tucked in a small bag. (well not the dog) oh ya, and my girlfriend. glow sticks would also make for fun swag plus could have a use in a pinch.
