  1. I have been trying to install GSAK and after about six times of installing, uninstalling, and re-downloading it still freezes at the splash screen. I have tried everything I can think of including stopping my antivirus and firewall programs. I am running XP Home with SP3 installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

    Ray

I am also running XP Home I'm not sure if I have SP3 installed or not. I've not had any problems with GSAK.

They have a support forum HERE You should be able to get some help there.

  2. I want to show a couple pictures in my listing of the view from my cache. I see where you can change background images, but how can I list it in my long description?

    TIA

I think you have to have them uploaded to the internet somewhere then use HTML to insert them in your description. There are places you can upload them for free. PhotoBucket is one of them. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

  3. Today while looking for a benchmark I almost stumbled over what I first thought was a part of a sofa. It turned out to be a dead cow. Little of the flesh seemed to be left. Things dry out pretty quick out here. It looked like boney, hairy, jerky. About 1/2 of the hide was still there. The body was complete. It even had an ear tag still there. It did not smell at all which was a blessing really. I almost recovered the head but it still looked pretty meaty so I decided to leave it be. No idea about what killed it. Could have just wandered off and died. Too far out in the brush to be roadkill and too complete to be butchered out remains. It was not really gross but it got me thinking about what I COULD HAVE FOUND. I bet some of you have found things far, far worse. Tell me your stories.

The WORST thing I ever found...

    My ex-wife...

You don't want to here the story..

Wish I had found a dead cow instead.

  4. Ok, I'm planning on going to Oklahoma next week, and want to do some caching there. I know I'm going to be visiting a certain lake, and there's a cache listed there (only one, oddly), but it hasn't been found since April. The last log was a DNF saying that the area was victim to a brush fire, but the owner hasn't temporarily disabled it, posted a note, or anything saying whether it's still there, if he's replacing it, etc. I posted a note asking whether it was still there, but no reply so far. I'd like to contact the reviewer to see if it needs to be archived, but I don't know how to find out who that is. All help appreciated

Go to the cache page and scroll to the bottom. It will say there.

    'There are more logs'

Click on "View them all on one page "

Now go to the first log and it will tell you who the Reviewer was that Published it.

  5. If there were instruction on how to solve a particular cache page puzzle then the hider of that cache would have gotten the same effect by making it a Traditional cache. There's a reason people hide puzzles, they want you to figure out what it is or how to do it. And most get very pissed if someone finds a puzzle by getting a hint, spoiler or tag-along with someone else.

I have never had a cacher "get very pissed" when I ask for a hint or got help to find a puzzle cache. I find it just the opposite in my area. Maybe cachers are just more friendly in my area.

  6. I mean doesn't everyone get a secret thrill out of lifting up skirts and looking under them and trying to look innocent while they dash back to their car

You could get arrested for that.

  8. I am going to be hiding my first cache and I wanted to print up a nice FTF certificate and well as a sheet to place in the cache with the cache info. Is there a way of submitting the cache listing but not actually posting it to the site until after I am issued a number? I want to be able to type in the cach # on all of the documents but I am afraid the FTF might get to it before I am able to get back with a printed certificate. Thank you for your help.

Just go ahead and fill out the page for a new listing and make sure to uncheck:

"Yes, this listing is active (For new listings, if you want to work on this listing before it is reviewed, uncheck this box. Reviewers will only see the listing in the queue when it is checked.) "

  9. Sorry to put such a downer topic up, but, does anyone have a good answer? Has anyone ever heard of such treachery?

It makes me want to keep a damper on my enthusiasm about the game to muggles, and I LOVE talking about how great this game is!

I've never heard of a bomb in a cache but I've heard of car bombs, and anthrax in mail boxes. I still drive my car every day and go to my mail box every day.

  10. But mainly - is it too outlandish or 'unfair' of me to place that stricture on my new caches?

Yes, and petty and silly to boot!

Let cachers cache, you don't need to control them.

I agree you don't need to control them. It's only a game and if you let some petty little thing like that bother you then it's your loss, your missing out on some of the fun part of the game.

  11. 1) What kind of tool do you use to drill big holes into something? (For instance, hollow out a tree branch or stick) A drill

I own a drill....I believe it's called a 3/8ths drill. It would not make a big hole. :) So I assume there is another type of drill that makes larger holes. If my drill made big holes...I wouldn't have to ask this question.

    2) What kind of tool do you use to hollow out something metal like a big metal bolt? Some type of machinest tools? A drill with a special bit for metal

Again...a regular 3/8ths drill? I have metal bits but the largest one wouldn't hollow a bolt so I assume there is another type of tool to do that.

I'm not saying I'm going to make these types of containers. I just want to know how some of these containers are made so I can apply that to my own ideas.

You could use a forstner bit in your 3/8 drill.

Forstner bits are available in a wide array of diameters typically ranging from 1/4 inch up to over 3 inches. Like other drill bits, they are often sold in sets with an array of sizes. Here's what they look like.

  12. Do it inside, if it's geocaching waypoints you are loading use the Garnin Communicator plugin and a USB cord. to send the loc. files to your GPSr

I copied and pasted the stuff below from their website at http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/

Communication with your Garmin GPS just got easier thanks to the Garmin Communicator Plugin — the free internet browser plugin that sends and retrieves data from Garmin GPS devices.

The Garmin Communicator Plugin lets you connect your Garmin GPS with your favorite website. Once the plugin is installed, just connect your Garmin GPS device to your computer, and you’re on your way. The Garmin Communicator can send and retrieve data from any supported website.

  13. I looked for a cache for a 1/2 hour one time. It was not a micro so I thought it would be easy. Never occurred to me that I might have to dig for it. Turns out it was below ground level but it was still a legal cache. It was at the base of a downed rotten tree covered with leaves and twigs.

When the tree fell the roots pulled up and left a good sized hole that the cache fit in rather nicely. The cache owner had not used a pointy object to dig the hole so it was OK.

  14. For some reason this doesn't work for me. I set it up to receive instant notifications on several types of caches, within a 100 mile radius, when I first joined as premium member. I am yet to receive a new cache email notification, even though there are caches being placed locally. I am only getting the standard weekly notification.

Do you have "Enable notification" checked on the notification page.

Did you choose a Type to Watch. You have to tell it what kind to notify you about. Below is the 3 that I have for mine. Oops, I see you said you did, Sorry

If you have one for Multi-cache and not have one for a Traditional Cache then a Traditional Cache is published you wont get a notification for a Traditional Cache. Hope this makes sense, I'm not good at explaining stuff like that.

Log type(s): Publish Listing Event Cache

    Log type(s): Publish Listing Multi-cache

Log type(s): Publish Listing Traditional Cache

  15. Your profile only shows 10 logged today. Are you sure you got thim all logged that you found?
