  1. I have 2 pocket queries set up. One for transferring files to my palm, and one for nearby caches, both with the same parameters-List all types of caches from my home zip. No other restrictions. My file for the gps is set to give me 500 caches, the one for the palm is set for 150 to download the cache page. There was a cache I was particularly interested in only 15 miles from here. It didnt come across on either of the queries. I noticed there were others as well not showing up, and cant find anything about them that is similar that would cause this. Do others have problems like this with the pocket queries? How do you fix it? thanks in Advance.
  2. I dont think the chances of that happening are any greater than the chances that someone would be stalking a trail in the first place for a regular hiker, for the reasons mentioned by citizen. That said, I would always make sure you are more prepared than neccesary for more isolated, longer searches. Always carry a cell phone for sure
  3. if you click to add a waypoint, it puts in your current coordinates. You should be able to modify the coordinates from there. At least it works on the etrex legend. I imagine the yellow's the same. Someone will correct me if im wrong. EDIT: Just like you said above. Thats the only way without the cable
  4. OK, admit it, who else is thinking of changing their user name to Cacheteer? (Cacheteers is taken)
  5. I agree with Jeff. there are 5 people with the cache on their watchlist. Probably the same people who couldnt find it If you post a note confirming its still there, they will be more apt to try again. Also it sounds like a different clue may help.
  6. Good points everyone. I guess multiple caches within the short distances dont hurt anything, I would just like to see some more "out of the way " caches. As there are about 800 more caches within 100 miles of me, I'm sure they are out there.
  7. In my area, there are typically multiple caches within walking distance of each other in the areas where there are caches. Got me to thinking, by changing the rule that caches have to be at least .1 miles apart to some larger increment, it would force cache placers to find new areas instead of just walking 1/10th a mile up a trail where there is an existing cache and placing another. Just a thought. whats your opinions of the rule?

  9. Around these parts, if you go to any major park, there are typically 2 or more caches within walking distance. Some parks are "cluttered" with caches. The thought occured to me that if the rules were changed to force caches to be further apart than the .1 miles, that it would force placers to find new places for caches, instead of placing them 1/10th a mile up a trail where they found another cache. What's your opinion on the current rule?
  10. Around these parts, you go to any of the big parks, and you can typically walk to more than 1 cache. Got me to thinking, if the rule was changed forcing new caches to be further away from each other, would it force people to find new areas to place caches instead of walking 1/10th of a mile down the trail from one cache and placing another one. What do you think of the current rule restricting caches to being .1 miles apart from other caches?
  11. The only cache I have placed so far was placed with permission on Ohio State Historical Society property, it took a few weeks, but I feel it was worth it. I took their input, and they had a couple of concerns which I addressed on the cache page.
  12. Yep, they are there. Go to the main page, choose the state from the drop down menu. It lists caches in the state. The link to the map is at the top of the page.
  13. It was a very interesting thread, no matter what the reason, it did go off-topic. The unfortunate thing is that as soon as the "Pirate" makes any kind of update to his page, another thread will start. Seneca--very good points, took the words out of my mouth , or fingers--whatever

And I really dont want this to bleed any more to other topics... If you're squirming in your seat to respond, just click on his name and respond to him. Jeremy Irish Groundspeak - The Language of Location I dont want to invite Woodsters to start invading my e-mail the same as he does the message boards Dont know how I let myself get sucked into the flame war..It wont happen again
  15. sorry, Jeremy, but in response to Woodsters(My last I swear). And I really dont want this to bleed any more to other topics... The point of my initial comment on the pirate post was that in one thread you had over 40 posts when at the same time you were saying not to reply, because it entices him.. As far as the post to finds..That was tongue in cheek. I had joked in the past that I try to keep under a 1 to 1 ratio..Time to find more caches so I can continue to post. I am out...
  16. Gimme a frickin break Woodsters. You told her to close it a few posts before mine. When you complained on the complaint thread(at least you were on topic), I replied and welcomed a rebuttal there. She closed it one minute after my message. Im sure my message wasnt why she closed it.
  17. Well, it is telling him the distance from cart to pin (or green)
  18. quote:Originally posted by Team GPSaxophone:Threads shouldn't need closing. When interest fades in the topic, it will move down the list. As fewer people see it, fewer people will click on it. That's the natural selection as it applies to threads. YOu're probably right, what I should have said is Hydee didnt close the post because I said to, but because it had veered off-topic, and it couldnt be brought back on topic
  19. OK then, rebut. The pirate thread was interesting(including your opinion) until it veered off-topic. Thats why it needed closed.
  20. Also Woodsters, you probably have one of the highest post to find ratios 723 posts to 35 finds = 20.6 All in good fun... Now it can be closed..please
  21. quote:Originally posted by Woodsters Outdoors:wow someone counting my posts...yeah Hydee close er up...nothing really came out of it anyway...the loot is probably at the bottom of the ocean anyway... 46
  22. quote:Originally posted by Woodsters Outdoors:...I said that it was funny and it was amusing how people reacted and still react to it. All it does is entice him more... Brian So your 45 replies to this post arent enticing him at all?
  23. Be careful what you ask for...Rest Stop Caches Beware of the Rest Stops..although after I started this thread, I was first to find at 2 new reststop caches, but I brought my dog with me, I apparently looked like I was there for more legitimate purposes as I was unbothered for those. You can pull up the state maps and zoom to the interstates to see which ones are right there, then check the cache pages to see if it tells you. Unless someone allready went through the trouble, I dont think there would be an automated way to do it.
