  1. Hate to be sticking my nose into this but I do believe that Palm Desktop is not compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition. Palm/Windows Compatibility I'm using XP Media with the newest version of Palm software downloaded from their website. So far no problems. Sometimes "not supported" just means they won't help you if it doesn't work.
  2. I know it doesn't answer your question, but I would suggest that your get rid of Windows ME as fast as you can. That was the worst/most unstable operating system that Microsoft ever created. I used it when it first came out and it was horrible. I would go back to whoever sold you that computer and tell them you want Windows 2000 or XP. Or, worst case fork out the $ to upgrade. The money you spend buying the software will be minimal compared to the cost of your time dealing with ME problems and incompatibilities. That's all. RM One Cheap Source - http://www.indyscomputer.net/catalog/item/...074/2917261.htm Thanks Rocketman. Just so I know we're talking the same thing..We have Windows XP media center edition. This is the one you say we should get rid of? We just bought this computer from Dell less than a year ago. I'm not against changing..the cost of ink and paper we're wasting will pay for the new OS, I just want to make sure I get the "right" thing this time. Thanks again..jodi NO - Don't get rid of that. Windows XP (the media edition is fine - I have that on my laptop) is what you want and it will work well with your palm and Cachemate. Windows ME is the crappy one! You said ME in your post. You are in good shape if you have XP. ME is Millennium Edition which came out around 2000 and it is the one that is famous for crashes and problems. Dave The Palm software is really a pretty easy install. You just have to choose what type of connection the handheld will use (serial or USB). If it's a fairly new one it's most likely USB. After you get it installed try doing a hotsync and I bet it will work. If it's the first time it wil ask you to choose or create a profile for the Palm. If it doesn't work, restart your computer. You should see the hotsync icon running in the system tray next to the clock. Cachemate will be even easier. After you download the files, double-click on the cachemate.prc file and then do a hotsync. The software will automatically install on your Palm. If you want to use the "nearest to" feature of Cachemate you will need to download the MathLib.prc file. It's the same steps to install that. Just give it a shot. You can't do anything to the computer that can't be undone.
  3. Yeah, what he said! Just because you're married, you're going to fall apart???? com'on......... I'm sure your wives would love it if you were trendy.....I know if my husband tries...it makes me happy! (although, I have to admit he is really good at burping and farting!) I don't think we'll ever grow up. Mrs. RocketMan doesn't seem to mind my choice of sock position. Now burping and farting is another matter entirely. She loves that. Dave is the king and Frank is the ruler of the universe! ...besides, isn't bunching your socks the same as sagging your pants? Yuk!
  4. Whatever you do people, don't let Trailgators take any of those Gatorade bottles Geocaching with him.
  5. I thought this was an interesting story in our local Ramona paper about a lady that was bitten by a tick. Ater reading this remember to go find this one.
  6. bump.. Moderate and 9am sound a lot better then tough and 6am. I'll be there Pat.
  7. "This is frightening me out of my skull, which is now empty. If I had anything in it I wouldn't be doing this!" "I paid ten dollars to do this! 'Hi, here's ten dollars; I'd like to die. Thanks!'" Great video Dave! Lion's Back not for seesies? Let me see now, the freefall equations are .... But how do you account for bounces? Thanks for the link RocketMan. Was it Parsa and who else did that climb last year? Looking forward to seeing the red Rubi' on that climb. Wonder if I could walk it? You could always try this technique. Ok, you guys have really got me freaked out now!!!
  8. Great information. If that is accurate, I guess we wont be heading out there. Thanks for putting that together. I would like that map overlay. Very cool. Oh, just go ahead and go there. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness then permission. Shoot me an email and I’ll reply and send you the attachment.
  9. Last week at the MTRP Armistice and Barbeque, there was still some discussion as to the actual location of the Miramar boundaries and the incidences in those areas. I was interested too so I asked the engineer at my company to create this map for me. The lines are based on the San Diego County Assessors maps so the locations aren't guaranteed but they're usually pretty darn close. The first screenshot shows those boundary lines. The second also shows the caches in the area. Notice how far into Federal land we have gone. The area labeled Military Reservation is actually the old Camp Elliot so I don't know how this affects us or if the Marines even patrol there. If you want the kmz file so you can open it in Google Earth, just email me and I'll send it to you. Remember, this all just my opinion and I'll be out there with everyone else getting those caches.
  10. Sounds like a good time...I'm planning to be there then. One question...could we stop off at "Kerens Micro Blue Sky Cache"? It looks like you find this back a couple of years ago. I went looking for it in February. I'm pretty convinced that it is gonzo, but it would be good to get confirmation from someone who has seen it (assuming, of course, you remember where it was hidden... ) I remember where it is (or at least should be). I will try to be there in the morning but it will depend on if I am awake or not. Maybe I should just skip sleep tonight. I'm going to try to be there too. I don't want you going off and doing Developing A Cache without me. I'll post again tonight to confirm...unless you're willing to carry me up that hill if needed. Ok, it's after 3AM and I just walked in from MTRP. Guess what, I'm not going to Blue Sky. Have fun.

  12. Picture this: You're on a 3 or 4 mile hike on a scenic trail with good friends on a beautiful Saturday morning and you find maybe a handful of caches along the way. You stop every once in a while and take pictures, have a snack and just enjoy the time you're having. This is why we all started geocaching in the first place. Now picture the other people doing nothing but showing up at a few events and trying to think of ways they can out do each other in the number of logs they can get. I don't particularly care what they do with their numbers. I imagine that trail again and think about what they are missing. I believe my time was much better spent. I almost feel sorry for them…Almost. One more thing, I love the San Diego Geocachers. What a great bunch of people. We all hike together, bike ride together and attend these events together. And what other area has a thread dedicated to "Let's all tackle that cache together". Shoot, if it wasn't for Geocaching, we'd all be strangers. Imagine that. Too bad those other people couldn't be like us.
  13. Nice photo! I bet ya she got that engine running! I once heard a story about a guy that took a nap in this location. He woke up exhausted...
  14. How about 9AM at Blue Sky parking lot? I wouldn't mind sleeping in a little! 9 sounds good to me. See you there.
  15. No problem Paul! I have been fighting off the onset of a cold myself.....so far have been lucky! I am also still debating about going after some puzzles I've solved up in North County but never actually found. I am down to 7 or so in Puzzle Valley! Oops I should have said that! Anyhow I am flexible and can always do some other junk around the house this weekend if nothing pans out here... Sounds good. Maybe we can plan the Hollenbeck Canyon in a couple weeks. I should be at the BBQ next week and we will hike some of it after it. It will be in a group and cool in the night. Google has a calender sharing feature. Has anyone thought about maybe using something like that to plan group hikes? I would be happy to set one up and share it.. Does that sound like to much planning? I figure if someone is going to do a hike anyway and want company, they could post it in that manner. Maybe overboard for planning..... ....What do you think? Paul The Google calendar is a cool idea! Thanks for sending it to me! I loaded it and will mess with it, but I think we still need to post things here. There are many of us that are not techies. In fact some of us still print out cache pages! HP loves those kind of people! We can holdoff on Hollenbeck until you can go in two weeks Paul. I added it to my Google Calendar! Waiting on Hollenbeck sounds ok to me, I have that party thing to do in the afternoon. I just couldn't get out of it. Some puzzles in north county sounds good to me Pat if you still want to do that. Which ones are you looking at? I really like the idea of the shared calendar. Can I get in on that too? Hi Jerry, there are several but the ones around Lake Poway like Myst, Pyst and Woodson Trails Photo cache have been on my radar for a long time. There are some other regular caches in the area too. It would make sense to meet at Blue Sky and then drive into Lake Poway so we only have to pay entry for one vehicle. Here is a map of the area: You can get in on the calender by downloading it. Just enter Google calender into Google! Then you can find us by using our gmails! What time you want to meet? Can you say Pyst in the forums?
  16. Actually, I've been an Opera user for more than four years. It is much more sophisticated than Firefox and has many more useful features, like "Notes" and "Mouse Gestures" without having to download "Extensions." However, I had to open Firefox yesterday to get some functions I needed in Blogger. Blogger doesn't communicate perfectly with Opera . . . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Even though I've found all the caches in the Hollenbeck area. I'd like to join you guys this weekend. It is close enough, I can almost afford to drive to that trailhead . . . Sorry Miragee, that must have been someone else. I have never really liked opera myself. I can never understand what they are saying.

  18. It's supposed to be cool this weekend. So a nice hike would make sense. We don't have too many cool weekends left. So how about Hollenbeck Canyon and the Couch series? Another idea would be the Elle Lane Loop near Iron Mountain.....Any other ideas? that would be this area (I believe) Off Honey Springs Road Here is a Google Earth picture it the area: Map There is parking on a dirt area off Honey Springs at 32.670630 -116.823127 Those new maps are sweet! We are thinking about hitting those, but I currently have a cold, so I am just building puzzle for future use. Paul Below is a screenshot of your map. It looks like it's better to take two vehicles. I'm not sure I want to find Dangling Balls... Or a mountain bike. It's a great place to ride.
  19. I like Firefox but I think I like Explorer 7 better... I was using 7 for a couple weeks but it still has some issues like not displaying the geocaching maps properly. I'm going to wait until the next beta release or the final before checking it out again. I was amazed how much IE 7 looks like Firefox.
  20. Anything happening this weekend? Any interesting treks being planned? My sister-in-laws birthday is this weekend, but if I can get away from that you know what I'll be doing. A little side note: Hey Miragee, I finally started using Firefox and I love it.
  21. WoooooHooooooo! Wow!!!! I wonder how much $$$ she has skimmed out of those 4000 caches.
  22. I stopped by Max's today on my way home from work. I picked up a regular YMS #30 and I guess the last misprint. I almost missed it myself. Toby's Gang
  23. I'm heading out there Friday night. I'm not sure what time I'll be there because I have to work...until 5...can you believe that?! Darn job gets in the way of all my fun.
  24. Not sure if this is related but, check it out. I suggested the possibility of ad-blocking software as a cause but apparently that wasn't the reason. My son got home from church and we found a check next to a thing on pop-up blocker so we unchecked it and now it works. Thanks for all you help. Aha! demon excised. Good going John and son, see, prayer did help. Next chance y' get don't check that thingy. Funny thing is I don't know how it got checked, had to of been a demon. The demon returned, yesterday some how a breaker tripped and now I think my hard drive is fryed ,so my son is letting me use his computer but I can't check my e-mail. Most internet providers have webmail. It's a little clunky but it works in an emergency. If you have Cox, it's http://webmail.cox.net. Other providers will have a similar address.
  25. Aw, gee, golly ... thanks for noticing. Geocaching sure has been fun and meeting so many of you has added to the pleasure. Like they said back in the fifites ... you're all just swell. Well, you know, except for that dried up old crow General Cegrube Marx. Yes, my find-curve has really tilted since the Geobabes took me under their ample wings last August. I owe it all to them. One day I dream of making the grade as a card-carrying Geobabe. Funny thing is that thirteen has always been my lucky number. Wonder what happens now? Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sweet old Harmon Ample Wings, Harmon??? Just watch it buddy, you have been docked 1000 Geobabe Good Guy points! At this rate, you are back to Probie status!! Even tho we are in Scottsdale, our eyes are watching you! The Geobabes............$kimmer & Splashette Women! Can't live with them........
