  1. If you do not know plumbing then you would have a more difficult time than if someone would say how they did something and with what parts. I guessed at the parts and priced them in 1.5" PVC and did not lie on the prices. So either i looked at the wrong parts since i guessed, or they are in fact the price that i said (at least in this area). I looked at a cap, A threaded adapter and a threaded end. It was at least $2.50 and possibly over $3.00. And you dont get much more cheap than home depot. Maybe you are not sharing because you are trying to sell these here. You consider this expensive? It's all a matter of perspective I guess, I have caches that have cost me over 50$ to build, I would certainly not consider the build of a little plastic pipe expensive. I agree….. Expensive is subjective..... I just copied one of the containers in this thread and it cost about $35 by the time I was done. But the logs have proved it was worth it! I'm looking forward to copying others soon! []
  2. Sadly I purchased a GPS device before I even statrted an interest in Geocaching. I have a Magellan Explorist 100. I have created a cache "Where Am I" where I ask the finders to note in the paper log the last 3 digits of the coordinates thier GPSr indicates when they find the cache. I did this because I was unable to get a consistant reading with my unit. Many trees and power lines kept the pointer changing constantly. Although I averaged 5 different readings prior to listing the cache, I happened to be in the cache area when the FTF groupe with 3 different GPSrs tried to find the cache. They were looking about 150ft away from the location of the cache. I helped them locate the cache and then compared what thier GPSrs were reading with mine. All of thier GPSrs were reading consitantly and mine was acting as if I were in the Bermuda Triange. I have had this behavior when in mountians and when near large buildings. Althouth I do not have enough data points to make a clear determination datd to date suggests that the Garmin are much more stable and usable in cluttered areas. I am currently looking to purchase an new unit with more capability and it will likely be Garmin. []
  3. I have a Magellan Explorist 100 so I need the short wtp as the name if I enter more than one into the unit. I can see an upgrade to a sync-able GPSr someday but for now I'm trying to use what I have.
  4. In other threads I read that some of you adjust the cache coordinates particularly if you know the cache placer is using a competitors GPS unit. I have been trying to find the "sweet spot" for mine and thought it was an anomaly. Please tell me about your techniques and amounts of adjustment use and also your make and model of GPSr
  5. I'm using GSAK to import my "pocket query" and then export to my Palm OS 3.? Handspring using Cachmate. The dada seem to get through and is accesable, howver, when I tap on Sort by Wpt the data is displayed not by the GCxxxx but by the cache name and in some as yet undetermined sort. Anybody have a clue? []
  6. Whoa! just hold on there one second! Travel bugs are purchased, travelers added, missions given, instructions sheets included, watched over and hoped for by the bug owner. That cache owner has no business deciding how my travel bug should be handled. Travel bugs are meant to travel (duh), not held captive by some cache owner wanting to draw people to his cache. For your reading pleasure, check out this bug. Get Out of (TB) Jail Free OK, I am a Cache owner who is guilty of trying to assure TBs are present from the stand point that I thought the area needed a depo for TBs. I am going to delete the depo note from my cache. I just talked to a Cache owner who has a "TB Hotel" and his complaint was that he couldn't get it emptied out; some bugs just sit with nobody willing to pick them up. I intend to help clear the building the next time I go out on a multiple cache hunt. (Some of my TBs have been sitting in that hotel for a while). I think the "TB Hotel" or "Depo" is a good one, but it needs enough visitors to assure TBs are moved along their way. Cache owners who evoke this moniker need to be vigilant. For me I would rather see my TB move in the wrong direction rather than sit in a "TB Hotel" or in someone’s bag while it waits to be placed. I also know that I like to see a laminated goal statement on a TB. I am much more likely to move a TB that has one attached. As far as the "Blue Duce"...... "End of the longest line!" #24 Jeff Gordon! The greatest drive currently racing! []
  7. I had the same problem but assumed that others knew how to make the milage an automatic thing and I was left out of the loop. I started a thread on the forum and someone told me to recheck the listing. Sure enough the milage was there! I have no idea what happend. The milage is listd in the line example: "Tracking History (111.8mi) View Map" located just above the logs. If the Bugs are yours you can recalc milage traveled by opening the page for your TB and in Trackable Itens Options is a dialog box to recalc milage. Remember that if the TB is in the possesion of a geocacher it will not have a milage until the TB is placed into the next cache. I notice that cumulative miles traveled prior to the current geocacher picking up the TB remains until the TB is placed in the next cache. I hope this helped! []
  8. I just logged my first travel bug not located in a cache. It was in fact a magnetic plaque attached to someone’s car and yes it is a valid travel bug. I just wonder how long before that is snagged? Anyone know where I can get one for myself? I think that takes the size prize for largest travel bug. Here are a couple of my fast and hard rules for Travel Bug release: 1) If anyone thinks the TB item worth something then there is probably someone who will snag it for themselves. 2) If you can fasten something to a TB tag..... I can figure a way to separate the item from the TB tag and cause no more damage that the initial attachment. Therefore, I don't see a value in worrying about attaching the dog tag with any other goal than to keep the TB tag from falling off in average wear and tear. 3) Don't send anything you don't want to loose. I have no great delusion that any of my TB's will make it where I want them to, but I can urge them on! []
  9. I checked the listing and although the milage was there it was displayed the same for my TBs. I know I saw something different, really I did! I feel like you do when the IT comes to your cube and can't find what wrong with your PC......
  10. Ok Ok Ok maybe giving credit to the developer would cause too much spoiling of the caches they've used the containers on. I would still be interested in a listing of great cache containers without having to read 2000 replies.
  11. I saw a TB page where the total miles covered was listed on the page for all to see. How did he do that? How about anyone telligs us how to do unusual thing in the TB listings? I'm all ears! []
  12. OK I havent been at this very long but... Ceocaching.com Groundspeak.com travelbugs.com We seem to be .com-bombarded. I do all of my stuff from geocaching.com but I do it from the geocacher perspective. Now if someone found a TB loose and not in a cache, didn't know what it was, I can understand having travelbugs.com, otherwise I'll just click on a link in geocach.com. Oh, isn't that the link that is the hardest to read on the tag? Are Newbe's the problem with MIA TB's or Muggles? If Newbe's are the problem than I would say that the serialized side of the tag needs a don't keep me statement as well. Something like... "Help me along.. read reverse" Just a thougt.[] If Travelbug.com is meant to help people who
  13. Aliens are not above watching..... They are right beside us in one of the alternate quantum realities. Movement between levels III or IV parallel multiverses are something they mastered shortly after Apple developed "Windows" and took over their reality! While Aliens from levels I and II multiverses could also be here, however, nobody likes to talk to them since Tiny Tim became their spiritual leader and Sushi chef. We, however, are not likely to see them until we deal with the intense field decoupling resulting from the excessive carbon saturation of political parties!
  14. You sound very negative about this, for that I am sorry..... My goal was to get others to use some of these great ideas to spice up cache demographics. While my area seems to be repleat with a large variety caches, where my daughter live is one micro after annother..... I think Altoids should sell cammo colored cans just to help us out Just wanted some of these good ideas to get arround! Thanks for the great cache ideas and keep 'em comming!
  15. While using the forum I visited the "Pictures - Cool Cache Container (CCC’s)" thread within Geocaching Topics. That thread has had 1,760 posts, mostly pictures and 379,075 views and that was as of the last time I checked. Obviously this topic is of great interest to the membership. I would like to see Groundspeak have a page either on the forum or geocaching.com where members could view selected cache containers and vote for their ten favorite. After this vote the top ten containers could be listed in a feature article and perhaps the member who came up with the #1 could have an icon added to his profile attesting to the honor. The benefit to our sport and to Geocaching.com membership would be the quality and variety of the cache install base throughout all geographic regions. Not to mention some good old ingenuity spurred by competition to be the creator of this years “Best Cache Container 2007”. AS for me I am already in the process of copycatting some of the containers I saw on the "Pictures - Cool Cache Container (CCC’s)" thread. What do you think?
  16. I'm not sure any sport where you have to try and conseal yourself from the general public will become a merchandizing mecca (the true judge of a capitalistic sport). Can you imagine a geocascher in a NASCAR style suit or sponcership on thier car, being able to avoid being muggles?
  17. As a relitive new-be I knew only that I could drop a TB by logging the cache as a find. I didn't realize I could post a note and do it. After figuring that out I have never gone back to see if I missed something obvious in some explanation or instructions or if there were any related instruction at all. I recall my first experience with a TB and I had a hard time figuring how to drop it at all. Might be just me... I seldom read the instructions on "some assembly required items"!
  18. I really enjoyed the CCC thread, however, it sure is long....... I am relatively new to this sport; hid a few, found a few, and big plans.... I love some of the great (evil) ideas form that post and I'm glad I haven't come across some of these caches myself yet, at least until I'm more experienced. I am, as we type, putting together one copy-cat container that I really liked. To the point! Could the forun have a section on cache design and have the "best" in several categorys shown for insperational purposes? I think it could really help add some spice to the cache install base!
  19. I relaize that in some parts of the country that mosquitos are an all time thing, but in others they are situational. Why can't there be a list of icons simular to clickable smiles that we can put in the listing? I know that several people have wished for a fishing icon....etc..
  20. I have had many "Muggles" roll thier eyes at me re; geocaching, Some time ago I found the "Groundspeal Presents A GUIDE TO GEOCACHING" I was going to print some up but now I can't recall where to find this on the Geocaching.com site. Anybody know where it is?

  24. Where do you find these secrets? It reminds me of the old days when you tried to do someting on an Apple when all you had ever worked on was PCs.
