  1. I have DNF'ed the same caches several times only to see them when hiking or hunting in the area without my GPS. I DNF'ed one only to find it while coaching my daughter's softball game when chasing after an errant throw. Don't give up!
  2. If I'm caching, and have someone spying on me, I'll pull out the cell phone and talk away until I get time to get the cache. If I come up on someone, I usually ask if I can borrow their pen after they're done. I also once came up to a cache that had a cacher at it...I was in cammies (in the military), and asked him if he had seen anyone in a tank nearby. He told me there was one about two miles away in front of the VFW!
  3. You can let the cache owner know when you trade swag in a cache when u log the find; in order to track your necklace, you would need to have a "hitchhiker" attached to it. You can buy these (also called travel bugs) from several places that sell geocache related stuff. Look on the geocache.com site for some quick links. Hope it helps some.
  4. I find a lot of likely containers in my garage and shop: conduit fittings, magnetic sheets and large mailbox #'s (adhesive). I even made one out of a softball a couple years ago that is still out there today. Use your imagination, and it becomes much more fun.
  5. I routinely put my personalized wooden nickels in caches with the hopes that someone grabs it. I have a small collection of other's nickels as well. As the others said, if it isn't trackable, consider it tradeable. There are a ton of websites for these that you can check out.
  6. for all of you tri-state cachers (IN, KY, IL), I saw on the Evansville news tonight where two cachers where noticed doing something "suspicious" in Owensboro, placing an object on the ground, etc. Cops were called, and shot the suspicious object, then pieced it back together and learned it was a cache. They ended up on the Geocache website...no charges filed, and they're fine with the game, just want it labelled as a geocache. You can see the news footage on wtvw.com or wfie.com.
  7. I was going after a cache in a hole in a tree, about 8 feet off the ground. I stood on a lower limb, pulled myself up to the tree, looked in...and saw the biggest 'possum ever coming after me, teeth bared. After peeling myself off of the ground, I chose to DNF (went back later to get the find). I needed to change my drawers anyway.
  8. I say bring 'em back. With regulations in National Park holdings and other state and local laws, it does allow people to enjoy geocaching in those areas.
  9. Come up to the Lawrence County, IL and Knox County, IN area and we can hook ya up. Plenty of caches and cachers in the area.

    ISQ Finds

You can put me down for 19. 18 Indiana and 1 Minnesota. I don't believe in pushing the numbers, but seeing this made me curious. I now have 11 total ISQ's in Indiana. I love these things. Thanks
  11. I'm here...eight miles from Indiana, so I kind of blend into both.
  12. Has anyone ever heard or seen a Geocoin dedicated to the US Navy Seabees? With all of the types of GCs out there, I figure that there's one of these as well. If so, where would I get one? I check Ebay often. Thanks, and keep caching!
  13. Man! was so bored I actually cleaned the house! Now its raining on the 4th, I'm grabbing caches on the colorado and heading out...a day late!
  14. A new group has been started called Illianacachers, located in Yahoo groups. I started it mainly to help my newbie friends out, and hopefully we can meet some other cachers in the tri-state area. I'm new at this groups thing, so take it easy on me!
  15. I really want to hit this event for several reasons, but mainly because I haven't been to an event before, and I love the park, want to meet cachers. Can't wait to go...
  16. Welcome to the addiction! I just introduced two buddies to the insanity, er, hobby, and they are lovin' it. Hope you do, too.
  17. I found a cache while hiking once, and left it alone. But, later watched another guy who was actually cache hunting find the same one. This was about two years ago. I don't think he saw me, but if he did, apparently he didn't give a hoot.
  18. Are there any organized clubs around Vincennes or Lawrenceville, IL for geocaching? I have been to the L.E.G.S. website, but that is the only one I have found. Thanks!
  19. Just wanted to see what others thought; I do sign the logbook, but when they're wet it sometimes becomes an issue to get it signed. Appreciate the help.
  20. I have noticed that several cachers are leaving a card of sorts instead of signing the log...is there any specific reason for this? Is is frowned upon not to sign the log?
  21. Congrats! I'm new myself, and was excited when I found my first cache, then my first travel bug. I take my daughter with me as much as possible, and she's hooked, too! I'm staying away from the micros; I haven't had any luck with them at all. Their day will come, though. Good luck!
  22. Thanks for the help. I'm sure once I find the first that they will be easier for me. I like the challenge. Besides, I can always go after a traditional to get the confidence back up!
  23. I'm new, but this is exactly what I try to do. I also like to look up as well as down. The main thing is to enjoy it and enjoy being outdoors.
  24. Is there a common theme for a microcache? I have searched for a few (new to the scene, only started last week!), but have had no luck. : I really don't want to ask for hints yet, but how small can a cache become? Thanks
  25. Thanks! Can't wait to get out and find the first cache with my daughter!
