I just tried logging into the Wherigo site using Google Chrome and I can't even get in with that! I sent a note to the Groundspeak help desk. We'll see what comes of that.

Hi, I'm in San Antonio this week and I won't have a car until Wednesday but I have already tried to locate a few caches along the Riverwalk and my geosense has failed me - I don't know if it's the heat and humidity but I even missed out on what was supposed to be the EASY RIVERWALK CACHE! I know this is my first day and maybe my GPSr needs to be re-calibrated but I can't believe that I would have been that far off. Supposedly the caches that I tried were found recently so I have to assume that they are still there. I will try again tomorrow but I just hope this isn't going to wind up being a lousy geocaching trip!

I'm coming to San Antonio next week (Sep 20-25) and I'm looking for someone interested in showing me around San Antonio for a caching expedition. I did a PQ and found over 700 but I don't have a definite plan yet. I'd love to get about 35 finds which would bring me to 1300 but I don't know if I can do that. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will be staying in San Antonio with my wife at the Hyatt Regency on Lasoya St.

Yes "Little Brother", I couldn't have found my 800th cache without you. You have truly added to an interesting part of my life. I've always had different obsessions but this one is really wild and I get to share it with you, my family, and the many new friends that I have acquired. It seems like it's been a long journey to get here but with 200 more, I'll be at 1000! Before I forget, CONGRATULATIONS to YOU too on your 400th find - I know you are not big on the numbers but nevertheless, you deserve kudos for getting this far with the limitations you have on getting out. Keep on cachin'.

I had this same error last week and I notice that I had 39 PQ's on my list. You are only allowed to have 40 so maybe the counter is off. As soon as I deleted some queries, I was okay. I hope this helps.

A little bit of everything except chocolate - it melts too quickly. Mostly cookies, crackers, granola type bars, licorices of all sorts - fruit snacks and candies. I always have some water and/or Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey. When going out with my brother, we usually bring along some sandwhiches and chips.

I actually have TWO caching buddies - one for each state that I cache in! If I am in New Jersey, I like to cache with my son when he's available which hasn't been too much lately and I miss that. When I am in Pennsylvania, my best bud is my brother - he's the one who introduced me to Geocaching and he's the one who keeps me going. He likes the quick cache and dashes so he help to increase my numbers. I'm at work now so I don't have pictures - maybe at another time.

My brother is also a diabetic and he uses these containers to place caches. I also think there might be some sort of silica gel packet that he places with the log to help keep it dry.

I'm going to go out on a limb here but I recently placed one in my yard (I won't give away too many details). I think it's fun to watch the location when I'm home espeicially when it's too cold to go out caching. I can't believe some of the people who go out in freezing weather but when I catch them in the act, I always try to go out and chat with them. That way I get to meet the people who belong to the signatures in my log. Mine is a very easy cache and doesn't take very long to find. I also have a web cam set up so that I can snap pictures of people in the act if I'm not around. Of course, I'm not monitoring it round the clock and it gets dark early so the camera won't see anything in the dark but it's still fun to watch. On New Year's day, we happened to be watching and a group of EIGHT cachers came by so I just had to go out and say hello even though it was cold. I found out that a lot of them were new to the sport so I coaxed them to visit some of my other caches that were close by.

Sometimes I like having my car GPSr drive me around in circles - I get to see a lot of sights that way! If you are going it alone, it's kind of hard to read even the screens on the Garmin handheld units - that's why I like the voice guided directions on my Garmin Nuvi. All I really need that for is to get me close enough to park. By the way - welcome aboard and good luck on your trip - you should be able to find quite a few caches along that route.

I know that it was already mentioned but in a way, I like this idea - as long as Law Enforcement was somehow made aware of these registrations. It would certainly cut down on the number of bomb squad calls.

Don't give up! I don't know much about your GPS but my son actually started by using Google Maps WITHOUT a GPS and he found 6 by that method! As in the previous logs, it does take some experience to know what you are looking for - I'm sure you'll get the hang of it and then you'll be "hooked"! Happy Caching and a Happy New Year.

It depends on who your provider is but I have Verizon and I have it working on a Blackberry Curve (8330). I had to get a geo puck (blue-tooth GPS device) but it works just fine. This is just one option - there are many others I'm sure.

I forget where in the forums this discussion is but there's a whole thread on using the Verizon Blackberry with a GPS "puck" and Geocache Navigator. I have a Freedom 2000 bluetooth GPS unit that connects to the Blackberry and then I use GC Navigator (the AT&T version) and it works just fine. There are a few "blips" now and then - like GCN sometimes tells me that I don't have a valid license when I do but the "fix" is simply to restart the app. Sometimes too, I have trouble connecting the Bluetooth and I almost always have trouble if I try connecting any other type of BT device. If you search the forums on Blackberry or even GPS puck, you might find the whole discussion. Good luck and happy caching. (Oh and before I forget, the accuracy is pretty close to my Garmin Etrex Vista HCsx.)

Other than the usual disclaimers and those posted by the individual CO's, I'm not aware of anything that would "protect" a CO from this litigious society that we live in. Thank goodness but I haven't heard of anyone suing anyone else over a caching injury. When I go out cache hunting, I go at my own discretion and I am fully aware that some mis-step that I take could put me in the hospital. In fact, I've already had some very minor injuries and I am thankful that they were only minor. This is definitely something to think about when hiding a cache but I am hoping that our fellow cache hunters realize that sometimes there is danger involved and they are doing this at THEIR OWN RISK! All we need is a bunch of lawyers going after cachers who were hurt and then we'll all be in trouble!

This is true - however there is a work around! I have Verizon and I got something called a Freedom 2000 (also known as a GPS puck). It's a bluetooth GPS receiver that works with the Blackberry and GC Navigator and I didn't have to purchase Verizon's GPS access. There are a few glitches but it works pretty well for the most part and it is comparable to my Etrex Vista HCsx. I have been using them both in the field and I find that one compliments the other in helping me to zero in on a cache. It's also great having access to cache info that I might not have brought along with me or as a backup when I don't have my GPS. The GPS puck fits on my key chain which I always have with me and I always have the BB too.

Just for quick info - PA took over 27 queries, NJ took at least 20, NY took over 25, and MA took at least 15. Those are states that I cache in so I've set up some DB's for them. The problem is that states like PA have over 10,000 records and some GPS unit only take 1,000. I extract counties from the original state data and then load those. That usually keeps me busy for a few days.

I'm not sure where you are located but here in NJ we have a number of these types of caches. Generally, with a multi-cache, you only get credit for the final find in the series but we also have some series that have been set up where you get credit for each individual find in the series including the final. For example, we have one based on the "Dirty Dozen" where you have to find caches named after each of the characters to find where the Lieutenant is located. We also have one based on Donuts - finding each of 10 donuts gets you to a final. There are many more but these stick out in my mind. Oh and there's one based on "Family dogs" with a bit of a twist - there's a question in each of the caches that you have to answer in order to get the coordinates for the final. All are very interesting. Just some more ideas if you weren't already aware of them.

Not logging on line would certainly keep the server storage requirements down - hmmm - that's an idea - then when Groundspeak sees that no one is logging, they'll determine that no one is "playing" and end it all.

And to think it was only "yesterday" that he was "playing checkers"! Congratulations!
