  1. I'm considering between the Gamin 60CS and the Vista C. From what I understand, the differences are as folows: Different Antena types External antena connector on 60 CS More memory in 60 CS Size/buttons etc... Are there any other differences between the 2? has anyone compared reception capabilities between these gps's? One other concern I have with the 60CS, is that the optimum orientation for the antennal is vertical, but for the compass is horizontal. If I'm holding it horizontal for the compass, will I see a big drop in reception because of antena orientation? are there any differences NOT listed above, that would be a deal breaker for you? I'm leaning to the Vista C, because I like the size, Price, memory is not a big deal, and neither is an exteral antena. what do you think thanks
  2. I think markwell's solution would be the easiest for most peple to do. Jus provide a place to enter coordinates. You can then add an option for power users to upload a route in various formats, that gpsbabel will then convert to an arc filter. To share filters between users, you would have to create a special place, where people can upload and search for route filters. Might get kind of messy. There are website out there, where people can share gps data. like this one: http://www.trailregistry.com/trailregistry/index.jsp it would be easy to save the route people entered as a GPX file (non-gc.com) and then people can share those.
  3. Our 3 year old has been on many 3 mile, 1000' elevation gain hikes, all on his own, without being carried. Our young one was only 4 month old when we started. When they are really little, put them in a carrier on your belly. Once they can suppport their head VERY well, put them on your back. Kelty makes the best carriers. I recomend the sun shade.

  12. GPS elevation readings can be off quite a bit, unless you have a properly calibrated barometric altimeter in it. If you want a good elevation for your house, plot its coordinates at www.topozone.com and read it off the topo map.
  13. Would it be possible to have a non-virtual Earthcache? I'm a geologist, and have placed a trad cache near a very cool rock. Its called "Ancient Worm Trails" , check it out, with pictures here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...4a-38560cec6163
  14. Until recently UtahAdmin would approve a LOT of virtuals. THe other GC.com admins told him to get into line, so now its almost impossible to get one approved, just like everywhere else.
  15. Does it still have a connection for a Serial cable? geocacheing mode? games?

  17. We were ltf here http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fa-f062900f68ae The owner had moved & decided to remove and archive it the day after I logged it. I had just put a cachunut game piece in it (www.cachunuts.com) & had to have the owner mail it to me from another state. dino_hunters
  18. If you want software that can give you GOOD GPS coordinates, based on a legal description, you are looking at about a $10,000 investment. The data is not cheap, and neither is the software. Your best off plotting in on topo software and getting the coords that way. jjb
  19. G7TOCE will do it. you can find it here http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/g7towin.htm
  20. expertgps canconvert a track or saved track into a route. www.expertgps.com
