  1. I get a series of PQ's every week, that give me every cache in the state of Utah. The queries are set to give them to me by when they were placed and, within the state of UT, so I know I'm not missing anything. Once I have gotten all the PQ's for the week, and imported them into GSAK, I can filter for caches where the last GPX update was more that 7 days ago. Those are the recenlty archived caches, and using the Global Replace function, I mark them all archived at once. This way, I never miss an archived cache.
  2. try www.expertgps.com you just click and it gives you the coords. It also plots a UTM grid on them
  3. I can't figure a way to limit the number of caches returned by a filter. how can I do that? say, limit a filter so it only shows the nearest 500 caches that meet the other requirements. thanks jjb
  4. when exporting caches to a gpx file, is there a way to limit the number of caches exported? Is it possible to do that with a filter? thanks jjb
  5. First off, I don;t have a clue on how to make a macro, in GSAK or any other program. Would it be possible to creat a macro that would run a series of saved filters, and then export a GPX file for each of them? If this is possible, can someone help me do this? thanks
  6. I use Expertgps. It plots them right out, on a topo or airphoto. With the GIS Option pak, I can export it to a shapefile, or I can export it on the topo as a georeferenced tiff. jjb
  7. I'm thinking of putting a geocache underwater, in a shallow river bed. Any idea if an ammo can will keep out the water for a while, or should I get something more waterproof than that?
  8. IF you buy the ExpertGPS GIS option pack, you can import and export Shapefiles, as well as Georeferenced image files. only $40 for a cool add on for my favorite topo map software. It works great
  9. Sorry not possible. Try a PDA. You can always link the two.
  10. http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/g7towin.htm for PC and PPC
  11. The biggies for me were: NG topo = $100/state or $5000 for whole USA Expertgps = $60 for Entire USA Expertgps has air photos Expertgps has MUCH MUCH better GPS integration. BTW, next spring there is supposed to be a BIG update to Expertgps (Free). It will allow for Elevation Profiles and much much more. There is also supposed to be a PPC version sometime too. Also, with expertgps, you can scan in any maps, as with Ozi. Download the demos and see what you like. After my Expertgps demo expired, I HAD to buy it. NOthing else comes close to working well with a gps. jjb
  12. here is a free windows program that works really well http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/g7towin.htm
  13. go here http://www.garmin.com/support/collection.j...ct=010-00322-20 and download xImage, garmin;s free program for making your own custom waypoint symbols. You could download gc.com's graphics & use those in your gps.
  14. it wouldn't work. THe GPS's can olny handle a USB client connection. Connecting USB memory in that way would require the GPS to act as a USB host.
  15. One part you left out. These GPX files with all the BM's in Utah are available for anyone to download here http://www.utahgeocachers.com/BMAcrossUtah1.php
  16. Dan Foster, ExpertGPS's software writer told me that they had no estimated release date. Its just something on their todo list that they haven't gotten to yet. I'm hoping it comes shortly after Expertgps 2.0 comes out next year.
  17. Initially they said Summer/Fall 2004, but a couple of months ago I was told Spring 2005, now they won;t say. From what I;ve heard, it will be a major update, so I can imagine it taking a while.
  18. I just noticed that a new version of GPXView for the PocketPC was released a couple weeks ago. I presume it will handle the new cache types and sizes. I like GPXSonar better, but they will not be making any new versions of it for PPC 2002 operating system. I have an older PPC, and the new GPXView will still work on it. http://strandberg.org/gpxview/ THANKS for the software!!!!! jjb
  19. GPX files do indeed handle tracks just fine. I think your problem is that your using EASYgps. Easygps only works with waypoints and routes. If you want to do tracks, use Expertgps. It handles waypoints, routes and tracks. It does them better than any other program I;ve tried. well worth the $60, considering you get topo maps and airphotos for the whole usa too.
  20. http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/g7towin.htm free and in english
  21. First, go to the NGS website, and download the YEARLY archive for the county you want. http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_archive.prl Use BMGPX, available here http://parkrrrr.com/ to convert the datasheet to a GPX file. Then you can use the GPX, just as you would a pocketquerry, with GSAK or other programs.
  22. Here is a link to a page, with Benchmark "Pocketqueries" (GPX files) for every county in the state of Utah. I used Archived datasheets from the NGS and Fuzzy's BMGPX to create them. Enjoy. You can also keep track of what Counties in Utah, that you have found benchmarks in. http://www.utahgeocachers.com/BMAcrossUtah1.php
  23. The newer garmins are tops at 10000. However, the magellan meridians can save them to a SD memory card, giving you virtually unlimited track log recording capability. SD cards are very cheap these days.
  24. Another quick question about the Vista C. Does it only hold 500 Waypoints?
