  1. Well, dumb me. I found the name of the local reviewer by going a bit further down on the cache log page. Sorry to make a nuisance post!
  2. My husband and I placed a vacation cache in Ireland (I know, I know, we were not supposed to do that but we had a local cacher watching out for it at a wonderful location at a wonderful old friary). Anyway, the local cacher moved and four years later after being found many times with many positive comments about the location, the cache went missing, so we were forced to archive it. However, lately, we received an email from another couple who would like to be the overseers of the cache with us still as the owners. How do we un-archive the cache? The edit function on the cache page says that we cannot do that but must contact the local reviewer for approval but we have no way of knowing who that is. So now what? Any assistance will be much appreciated. Thank you.
  3. We are in the process of turning over a cache to a new owner and are sad, too! But, It is not a done deal yet! How do we officially get someone to take it over? Thanks for any help you can give.
  4. So I've found yet another BM, no nearby caches and no idea whether it is in the NGS data base--along the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies and labeled 57 RJN 1963 ELEV 5487 ft. How can I work backwards to find it's PID?
  5. I'm trying to use the SD Card memory instead of my (full) handheld memory to store downloaded files and keep runnning out of memory in spite of directing the files be sent to the card via "Change Destination" on the Palm desktop Install feature. And when I delete a file from my Cachemate handheld, it also deletes the same file from the SD Card, even if I've taken the card OUT of the handheld during the process!! What am I doing wrong?? Cachemate 4.0.2 ?
  6. Thanks for the info--I will have a chance to go back and search more carefully for the concrete footers with this info.
  7. Am I being technically accurate or is this the sort of log (FB2645) that is a "find" by anyone who sees a tower in approximately the same place? I couldn't find the usual 4 concrete posts with bent threaded bolts sticking up, but I'm willing to bet a cheeseburger and a beer that this one is a goner. But I'm feeling way too guilty about posting it as destroyed without seeing the crumpled pieces of steel. I'll change my log if anyone has better info.
  8. Definitely into a large boulder, but intervening trees precluded any direct comparison of relative height differences, but a foot would be reasonable. Thanks for your help.
  9. The answer to the original question is "Darn right I have". Check photos for logs on GM0793, GM0786 and DV2012. My engineer friends reassure me that a zillion volts is plenty enough to momentarily liquify, ionize and displace small quantities of brass. Happy hunting but stay off peaks in storms!
  10. I've not seen an Elevation Mark (unstamped and un-marked) described as a BM and it has thrown me a bit. I think this is the same BM described in GW2224. Needless to say, the pine tree is gone. Even if I could have found the other reference marks, there are no distances / bearings from the Station Mark GW2224 Blue Knob to help me out. Can someone sort me out?
  11. I've found 2 broken but serviceable BMs--FZ1197 and GA1396--one logged as a Did Not Find and the other I logged as a Found. Which is correct and why?? Thanks for indulging a forgetful old fart because I'm sure this is an old thread!!
  12. I need some one smarter than me to tell me what this is--on the site of the description, but now covered. See GA1398 log and pics.
  13. I'm thinking that GX0051 is technically a Did Not Find, altho the reset is within a foot of elevation of the original description. How would the experts log this?
  14. Unintentional deletes would almost certainly be corrected by the cache owner--I keep my own logs. Cache_ninja deleted my DNF log when I suggested that a cache owner of 57 caches and only 18 finds should visit the cache after serial DNFs for 6-9 months--did I strike a nerve or what??
  15. It would unnecessarily encourage people like JoeGPS who log as finds benchmarks by saying I SAW IT--how about a required BM photo or cache log-verified by the cache owner? But why is this important at all?
  16. Any clues as to why some RMs have their own PID and others are merely listed along with their Station Marks?? Check FZ0783 for a BM with and GA3341 without. This may be an old thread for a newbie.
  17. Thanks for the info. I suspect that a 10% error rate in the data sheets would be about right--so far, 4 of my 18 found BMs have had significant errors when read critically and compared with the facts from the field.
  18. I'm sure that this is an old thread (that I can't locate), but what is the link/form/site to report an error (or 2!) to the proper authority? GA0346 lists 2 Reference Points at the same location (named differently). GA0345 and GA0347 contain an additional 2 errors (each) that are not mutually off-setting (it isn't a simple reversal of PIDs).
  19. How about a Print-friendly download option from Groundspeak that drops "For On-line Maps" and previous "logged Visits" leaving only "Details" and "Official History"??? Or am I the only guy printing sheets to take to the field? Please break it to me gently. (Or give me a clue!)
  20. Thanks for the info--I'm betting on LOT being the LookOut Tower (and incorrectly entered in the NGS data base) and since both are clearly extant, both should be logged as found/recovered. Ben
  21. FB2454 and FB2455 share similar descriptors on Mt Sterling--should I log both as found or just one? Which one?? Why?
