  1. We are keen - can I forward my details to you, to book our air tickets? Please do. Tried to book for the whole weekend but only managed to get the 22-9-07. I'll get your tickets the moment the Lottery is back up and running
  2. Hi All Anyone visiting Addo National park over the long weekend?
  3. Hi Cache-Fan LeonW is quite right. Select the option 'I do not have a 20 digit product key', Select Southern African Topo and Recreation and streetmaps 1,5 Select 'I want this product' Connect your GPS and have yor serial number handy, The wizard will guide through the rest of the installation and payment.

As mentioned, get a unit with a Si-RF chipset. With that as a prerequisite, look for a unit that suites your budget. I've yet to see a unit where the electronic compass works consistently and without hiccups. They tend to freeze up and often send you in the wrong direction. I got fed up and switched mine off, at least now I only take two steps in the wrong direction instead of a 100m or more. Wasted too much precious caching time recalibrating it or walking in the wrong direction. If you google, you'll find enough links where folks aren't too happy with the electronic compass functionality, so I wouldn't have that as a pre-req. Stand to be corrected, but I would think that all units that have one, you are able to switch it off. Hi Wazat GlobalRat is quite correct. I have found that the Etrex H to be good value for money if you're not ready to spend BIG bucks on any of the Auto routing units. Currently the Etrex H is R 1230-00 excluding VAT at some dealers but probably cheaper at Cape Union or Makro.

Hi Wazat Garmin have a new Etrex H on the market that has the new SIRF technology in it and the Rx is nice and sensitive. No matter which one you get the accuracy is still only going to be 5 metres. If you decide to get the Garmin give a thought to a download cable and the Southern Africa Topo and Recreation mapset. You'll be able to download your waypoints and tracks to and from the PC to the GPS, nice for keeping records and such.
  6. Hi macbow If possible give us a couple of screenshots for comparison. I am very interested to see the difference.
  7. Just a heads up about the price. Seems I made a mistake with the cost of the DVD. They are R43-82 ec VAT.
  8. Received our DVD for Southern Africa Streetmaps version 1,5 today and for those who have Southern Africa Streetmaps version 1 the upgrade is free. Zastron in the Free State is one of my checks and they now have streets and street names, also the corrections put through from us have been added to the new version. Just a word of caution - the new install takes version 1 out of the map product select, so there is no comparison of version 1 to version 1,5.
  9. Yup, was released today, (or yesterday) but you might have some trouble finding a dealer to give your R26 to. Allen Associates in PE or Avnic trading in CPT. http://www.allenassociates.co.za/
  10. Hi Flyjazz I personally have not seen Navigator version 6. We are Garmin agents and of course our product is better than any one else's I am currently using Garmap Southern Africa Street maps version 1 and have found this far better than Navigator version 5. The maps cover Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana and Namibia. A large amount of smaller towns now also have street names. Garmap is currently updating their maps and Southern Africa Street maps version 1,5 is now available on DVD for R26-00 for the disk and R228-00 for the upgrade from version 1. I have found that the local product is updated far more frequently than the City Navigator deries.
  11. OK that was a total wash out - cloud cover pulled in at about 18:20 and by 18:40 I could no longer even see the moon. Bummer!!
  12. Great Colin - glad it's on it's way and glad you're paying attention
  13. Hi Warthog Just a caution on the Castle Hill - it's not open every day of the week so a TB could get stranded for awhile.
  14. Hi Warthog Sounds like your time is limited and you'll be in a hurry. Fort Frederick, Castle Hill museum and So many shops are all in town and would be worth a look. I believe there's a TB in the Castle Hill cache that needs to be sent on it's way - perhaps you can rescue that one.
  15. Hi Team Haven't forgotten tonight - hope the weather clears though as the forecast is for cloudy to overcast.
  16. Thanks Team Think those passes will be to far West for us, but I'll try. Will certainly keep an eye on this thread. Cheers
  17. Hi Team TGF Hopefully we will be able to see ISS in P.E. but I don't want to volunteer to loud as I might just forget to go outside. You know the brain being a bit hollow, sometimes I can't even find South unless I have my GPS switched on.
  18. Hi Colin Real pity about the TB. I may get a chance this week end and will try for it. Yes that's right - we did only find 3, Castle Hill was closed and St Georges had Art in the park and too many people around, and we visited Homeleigh but could not find the cahe so consequently 3/6 wasn't to bad I guess. Geoff
  19. OK problem solved - Didn't check the box for found, did not find. My logs are all displayed now.
  20. Checked the date and time on my PC and they are correct. Also only 1 log, which was the one we did not find. I must be doing something wrong. Going to spend a little time trying to figure it out.
  21. Hi Colin I think I should check the date and time on my PC. Logged 5 visits but only saw 2 logged. Question could be: 'what are you doing wrong' Going back to check again.
  22. Ok - great excitement. Got out there yesterday and managed 6 visits with 4 found, 1 closed and too many muggles for 1. Posted my logs and now the question - how long before the logged visits are displayed?
  23. How about doing a search by co-ordinates. Using the 100 mile radius I put in the central co-ordinates of the area in which I'll be going to.
  24. Thanks Vespax The picture is just a sign of the times. My wife and I are keen campers although it's been a long while since we camped. We will be getting back into it and when we do we'll be 'seeking' like mad. I am going to start off by lurking in this forum and looking for the day trip caches' in and around P.E. I have already spotted a day trip near P.E. which will make a great cache, just waiting for permission to set it up and I'll be sure to give ir a go. Geoff
