on a more practical note.. that bug clothes looks like something a homeless person would wear.. i use long sleeve shirts, jeans, and high top hiking boots. i have had really good luck at old navy stores in the clearance section. they sometimes have olive drab shirts or other subdued colors and you can get them for under $5 each at times. all of my geocaching is done at night so dark colors are best in case i have to "disapear". sometimes you run into strange things so being able to fade into the night helps. the long sleeves, hightop boots and jeans do a great job of protecting the skin from those spiny things in the weeds. i hate those little buggers. urbo

i have absolutely NO problem with cdr's in my caches. load'em up boys! someone comes by and breaks'em thats fine. the stack of a 100 is at about $20 so they are going to be very busy chasing my caches around. the music industry has no pity charging $15 for something they have about $1 into. considering i own about 800 legit cd's i think i have done my share of paying for limos and chemical substances. $80 for good seats at a rock concert?? do i get some personal gratification with that?? ok then.. lighters in geocaches.. i think this kinda stinks but i'm not the moral police. people leave lighters in their cars all the time. the inside of a car can easily reach 120 deg in the summer. geocaches are rarely out in the sun. i dont see an explosion issue here. food, chap stick, candy.. yuck, but unless its my cache, i'm not messing with it. just leaving a note for the cache owner via email is enough. let the cache owner decide. if i find it in my caches i would remove it and put up a "dont leave **** in my caches". its worked great with golfballs and tennis balls. no balls in my caches. tennis balls or golf balls that is! i dont think anyone has the right to destroy anything in anyones cache. if you see something you dont agree with then trade it out. as far as the napster police guy thats out there.. if i caught on to somebody doing that to my caches (destroying cdr's) i would deffinitely set him up for a very uncomfortable experience. remember, you are visiting an area thats new to you but well known to someone else. they have the upper hand. urbo

i have a set of the maha powerex 1800mAh aa batts and they are great. no complaints on my part. if you want a cheap source for rechargeables check out kendoo battery on the web. they are local here in miami but do ship stuff. they have batteries for radios, phones, and single cell nicads and nimh batts. i bought 20 1000mAh aa nicads from them and they are doing great after about 6 months use. urbo

living in the city, often times the only interesting places to hide caches are high traffic areas like universities for example. i draw the line at the mini altoids tins. i like these. you stick a magnet to it and wallah! instant pain in the neck for a geocacher. we sometimes forget that what we are looking for may be underneath and not in plain sight from up above. check this cache to get the idea.. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=8027 as far as contents?? i stick a wheres george dollar in it and post it as such on the cache description so people will know to bring a wheres george buck with them. this could become lots of fun by placing a $10 in it and hiding it in a really tough spot. picture lots of people crawling around looking for a "?" in a public place!

maybe this person just doesnt know any better. some folks are still amazed at the fact that their telephone runs on electricity. i say a tactful but informative personal email. something along the lines of.. you have some really cool caches out there but i need to fill you in on something about the containers you are using. the sun eats them up and they disintegrate quickly.. play the part of the concerned geo cacher that had it happen to him also. ------------------------------ i dont see the problem with the one page log. my micros have a page or less inside. urbo -
i say leave it. if he wants to be a cheat then let'em cheat. this is a fun sport, not a contest. some people cant get through life any other way. i personally dont care much for my find numbers. i always sign the log and always make a web entry. i have too much else going on to get into any form of "who found more" contest. urbo

i guess mctoys are an issue elsewhere. i havent seen too much of that down here in south florida. i collect hotwheels and matchbox cars so i would be overjoyed to find some of the special mchotwheels that they issued. i dont see the issue folks. used golfballs?? now that stinks.. if your griping about the mctoys then are you hunting for the booty or are you hunting for the hunt?? i think the mctoys are great for the kids. it keeps them going when they cant possibly understand what is so thrilling about rummaging in the woods for a box some stranger left behind. if you want a mctoy free cache then i suggest the same them cache idea someone else brought up. i have several theme caches out there and in a way it forces people to follow the theme. you cant stuff a golf ball into a cd wallet! you sure as heck cant get a golfball into an altoids tin unless you squish it with a press! urbo

i own one and its junk. the only reason i have not deposited it in the nearest body of water is because it does work with the external anttena. the internal antenna sucks. bluntly put, it sucks. urbo [This message was edited by urbo on April 14, 2002 at 06:16 AM.]

weirdos in the park eh? i was hunting a cache in very well foliated park and i kept running into the same guy, a dude in office clothing. i would stare and he would walk off. i would turn a corner and there he was again. never to close but within sight. considering his size and the distance he was maintaining i figured he was just a lost bakeract. i grabbed my multitool and extracted the blade while out of his site and continued in my search. i found the cache, signed the log and hauled butt out of there. i later found out that theres a funny farm across the street. another weirdo story is a cache at a public very open park that i went to that was full of kids under the influence on chemical substances and other who couldnt afford a motel room. they should have named it "toke and poke" park! i get the "your cache is missing" thing often from this little gem.. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=8027 its a mini altoids tin hanging on for dear life with a magnet. its amazing how well it has stumped people, it even bumped one geocacher on the head and they still didnt find it. if you live in a city, these altoids mini caches are lots of fun to hide. urbo
