  1. I'd stay well away from the thought of any Olympic geocoins myself! Unless you can get permission (i.e. buy a lisence) from the British Olympic Association, under the provisions of the Olympic Act 1995 Section 3(1) and 3(2) and the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006, someone making, selling or importing a geocoins with the Olympic Symbol (or a symbol "likely to create in the public mind an association with it") or having wording mentioning Olympics, Olympiad or the like would be committing a civil offense with a maximum fine of £20,000. I'm not sure whether this protection extends to cover the 'innovative' mascots (I haven't had time to root around the legislation) over and above their innate copyright protection but its something to think about! Mike
  2. Guidance on placing caches on MOD land can be found here clicky linky - hope this helps. Mike
  3. Presumably you need to use a GPSr to find the location the description, hint and spoiler pictures refer to.
  4. errmmm, but that's not what the National Park's own website states; "Please remember that a user, and National Park friendly letterbox is sited...in a natural hole or cavity away from archaeologically and ecologically sensitive sites...". No more, no less. Presumably archaeologically and ecologically sensitive sites are Scheduled Ancient Monuments and SSSIs respectively... Mike
  5. You can if you want to. Very few bother. It's certainly not seen as a responsibility that the cache owner has. Cheers Richard It depends on how seriously/harshly the Cache Owner takes this I suppose ; clicky linky "Delete any logs that appear to be bogus, counterfeit, off topic, or not within the stated requirements." For me its a game and its about having fun and going places. If a cache is waaaay up a tree, then part of the fun and challenge is in getting to the cache. If the cache is merely at a height off the ground that is easy for tall people and impossible for short people then deleting logs because some people cannot reach it seems to take away from the fun and be a little on the harsh side. Mike
  6. I'd have to agree that it is DNF. That being said, I believe in geocaching rather than 'geologging' and if I find a cache where I cannot sign the logbook (if it is too wet or the cache is encased in ice or otherwise impossible to retrieve/open without damaging it) I will still happily claim the smiley.... Mike
  7. It has been affecting my photo uploads on and off all day Mike
  8. As opposed to the best part of caching in London? I'll get me coat....
  9. Hi, The South Wales Geocachers are putting together a calendar and other promotional material that highlight some of the best cache locations in Wales. To this end, we'd like to invite you all to submit your best, prettiest most dramatic or scenic Welsh caching photographs, along with details of which cache they relate to. Please note that in order to participate, we need you to give us your consent to use your photograph to promote caching within South Wales. “what's in it for me?” I hear you cry. All those whose picture or pictures make it to the final 13 will receive a free copy of the calendar, public recognition and the envy of all your friends! Please send your pictures to wonderfulwales@hotmail.co.uk before the 14 March 2010. The entries will be posted on our forum and the winners will be posted here on the GSP forum as well. Many thanks and have fun! Mike
  10. No. ecology is a Life Science which is "Any of several branches of science, such as biology, medicine, anthropology, or ecology, that deal with living organisms and their organization, life processes, and relationships to each other and their environment. Also called bioscience." An Earth science is "Any of several essentially geologic sciences that are concerned with the origin, structure, and physical phenomena of the earth." Perhaps, but the EarthCache program is run by the Geologcal Society of America and I guess that they're keener on geology than anything else.....
  11. Sorry to hear of your loss. Mike & Helen
  12. Does Kewfriend (or anyone else) intend to submit a fresh Peter Pan cache for the Hyde Park (or adjacent)area? It is a shame that the wonderful PPan series is missing the most important statue. Mike
  13. I think it is this part: 5. Access and Interference Much of the information on the Site is updated on a real time basis and is proprietary or is licensed to Groundspeak by our users or third parties. You agree that you will not use any robot, spider, scraper or other automated means to access the Site for any purpose without our express written permission. Additionally, you agree that you will not: (a) take any action that imposes, or may impose in our sole discretion an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our infrastructure; or ( B ) interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of the Site or any activities conducted on the Site or other measures we may use to prevent or restrict access to the Site. Mike
  14. I think its to do with GSP's plans to make it easier to translate common pages into other languages using localization...whatever that is! Mike
  15. But on the other hand, even a fraudulent finder will have leant a little bit of Earth science, which is the whole point of Earthcaches.... Mike
  16. At the risk of being terribly old fashioned and simplistic, why not just take the time to read prior logs when deciding which, carefully chosen, caches to do?
  17. The Blackberry 8310 will work fine in Europe (its available in the UK on several netowrks!), BUT the roaming data charge will be eye-wateringly expensive (unless your employer picks up the tab ). As has been mentioned, buying a netbook will probably be cheaper - plus you can watch mlb.tv on it... When we visit the States from Europe we use an ASUS netbook for surfing the web and GSAK to store caches and then stuff them onto the GPSr. Cannot recomend the use of a netbook highly enough. WIFI (or "le wifi" in France) is widely available in Europe - most budget hotels will have a small ($10-15) daily charge although it is often complementary in the more expensive ones. Many/most MAcDonalds offer free WIFI if you're truly desperate... The CSX will work fine in europe but I'd recommend getting Garmin City Navigator NT as it makes life a lot easier. Before you go, I'd suggest visiting the 'regional' forums for each country for hints/tipe and cache recomendations. Have fun, Mike
  18. Just out of curiosity, why do you want/need it? Mike
