  1. Just noticed a diving cache with missing D/T combination near our summer holiday destination. You have to find two bits of information underwater, from a selection of four each. You can google at least one. But even without that you can reduce the few possible hiding locations to about 5 as they are the only ones in accessible areas. After looking at a spoiler photo there are only two locations left. This owner seems to make it really easy for people to bag a high terrain rating. Mrs. terratin
  2. My thought exactly We've bagged a few otherwise difficult caches by just waiting for the right winter Only needed to wait two winters, thus 'patience' might also be a special equipment
  3. I recently had 7 endlessly long hours in Istanbul. So I got a few Turkish Lira and took the metro into the city center to pick up a cache and do a very short round of sight-seeing. We did something similar in Lisbon earlier last year. Though we don't need visa and can relatively easily leave the airport and return. Well, Turkey was a bit funny... Got out the airport, got a stamp in my passport, got in again and got another stamp, flew back home via this airport next evening (shortest business trip ever) and took a hotel outside, thus another stamp, and back to the airport next morning, where I was asked if I had problems making up my mind Mrs. terratin
  4. Sounds like a good idea, Moose Mob! I wasn't aware there are other areas people cannot easily cache, but those could also be included of course. Mrs. terratin
  5. It would be great to have a military base (or restricted access area) attribute and reviewer should enforce the use of it. Many caches, especially in the Middle East are placed on military bases that are not accessible for the general public. I think, the placement of caches that are not accessible to everyone is probably against the rules, but if there is an exception for the US military then it should be possible to ignore these easily. If I was to visit, say Iraq and wanted to see what caches are not placed on bases I'd need to click on each cache and read the description. And then still, quite often this is not mentioned in the description. Similarly, if I wanted to cache in Qatar again I could simply run a pocket query and move all the military base caches there into an ignore list and never think of them again. Mrs. terratin
  6. Thanks for your answer! I thought I really needed iTunes for this. I just didn't quite see how to do it. I installed the app and signed in on the Wherigo website, found the one I want to play, and then chose Pocket PC Devise o the drop down menue. Though this seemed to be the wrong option at first as the cartridge would not start and give a red error message. But now it suddenly works Problem solved I think Mrs. terratin
  7. You're certainly right, there's always geology. In this case it would mean to lend a car and drive out of town past our normal cycling range. In town it's only building materials of uncertain origin (mostly granite), and construction sites mainly show artificially dumped sand, and if you're lucky some structureless glacial deposits. Deposition and erosion along a small river might be an option, and there's a fine glacial erratic within train&bike distance where the owner of the EC there missed to mention the really interesting features So yes, there's always geology around (it's just not the one I like *swings her rock hammer* ) Mrs. terratin
  8. I do have an iPhone, but I don't understand how to get the cartridge into ituns. I refuse to install this programm, and any other apple software on my computer. Is there a different way to load cartridges or do I simply not understand how this works? Mrs. terratin in case youøre wondering: it's my office phone. I didn't have a choise in models
  9. Looks nice! For us, it's probably either no geology other than buildings or no cachers around Question is: what is worse Mrs. terratin
  10. I'm guessing it's "just" another example of a cacher providing and maintenance plan ("Hey, there's this random guy around here who'll look after the cache.") which turns out to be not -euhm- quite working out... Anyway, back on topic, a cache somewhere in India with a long history of actual finds/actual DNF's/missing boxes/owner maintenace/throwdowns/photo logs/DNF yellow smileys. Because of this long history, I'll only post the logs starting from Feb '12: Owner maintenance 7 Feb: replaced missing cache DNF 28 Mar Honest cacher: DNF Found it 19 May Throwdowner 1 & 2: Nothing here, placed a new cache Found it 12 Aug Photologger 1: "Unfortunately I didn`t found a box, but I hope the photo will be accepted as a log." Found it 14 Aug Not-Finder 1: "...but the cache lokation is fantastic..." Found it 15 Aug Not-Finder 2: "It took us a long time to search for it carefully and I have to provide a fotolog- the box isn´t there any more." (Interestingly enough this cacher did not provide the 'photo-proof' with his log.) Found it 13 Nov Not-Finder 3: "Thanks for the cache during our trip to Old Goa and the spyce farm." Found it 20 Nov Photologger 2: 'Unfortunately I think the box isn't there anymore, but I hope the photos will be accepted as a log." Found it 25 Nov Not-Finder 4: "Unfortunately we could not find the box. A Logfoto is replenished as soon as we are back in Germany." (And again no 'photo-proof' added to the log.) Found it Throwdowner 3: "Replaced the container. Thanks for bringing me here." Found it Honest cacher: "Such a kewl an awsome place.....appreciate the one who found the location...cheers" The sad thing is, the last finder is a new cacher with only 5 finds under her belt; don't know if she read previous logs, but if she did, she gets a very wrong impression of 'when to log a cache as found'. Cheers, Mr. Terratin
  11. Just a question: what maks this parking lot worth a visit? Why should I go there and what should I be looking at? If there is nothing to see there it might actually be a good idea to not hide a cache there, unless it fits the theme of a mystery. Mrs. Terratin
  12. Oh I wish! Considering it took us a year in EC heavier location that our home to find 50ish (getting our total up to 100) I think 500 will unfortunately take a couple of more years. Oh well, we'll get there in the end
  13. Lemme see, I walked something like 14km for a series of interesting caches in London, several similar distances for far smaller numbers of caches, and the record is something like 22km for 2 caches, of which this one here involved walking some 2km in a narrow tunnel with bowed down head (alternatively: headaches) and getting a shower every once in a while If there's something interesting to see, the hike itself is nice or the hide is great I'm certainly willing to walk some distances. A for example crater rim cache at a place with small volcanoes everywhere, and likewise caches will only get me up the most interesting ones or those that include EarthCaches, even if they aren't well done. Mrs. Terratin
  14. I've once found one of these 'pipe bomb' caches in London of all places I do agree that a hand grenade in Germany would be a very bad hide. Most younger people don't even know there's still masses of life ammo laying around. I don't want to think about someone finding such cache, and thinking that the real deal he might find next time is a hide as well. Mrs. terratin
  15. Mine is quite modest as we've fulfilled pretty much our goals last year: at least a fiend on each day of the calendar, heaps of nice challenges, and to pick up a few special caches. This year I would like to cache in a couple of countries I have not cached before. That's all at the moment to be honest. Mrs. Terratin
  16. Never took part in a cointest. So count me in. Mrs. Terratin
  17. Argh! I think this iStuff is simply too complicated to use for me (as I noticed before) Thanks a lot, that helps a lot. Mrs. Terratin
  18. Sounds good SoonerSoftail. I do wonder about this ivy stuff.. I'm sure it's not the same as we have in Europe as that's not doing funny things to me. The only annoyances are stinging nettles and thorny bushes of all sorts. And I got a lot of that this year
  19. Mind if I jump onto this topic? A few days ago I tried to find a mystery with the iPhone app. I entered the final coordinates as shown here. But what then? I was either send to the given coordinates or to a waypoint on the cache site and not to the coords I entered. Something certainly went completely wrong there.
  20. Thanks a lot, TMA. Then I will look into this a bit more seriously. Mrs. Terratin
  21. Yes, I know that thread. That's why I know what the GS costs are (and I'm at least not shocked by them). I just find it somewhat frustrating that I first need to have a complete design in order to find out what the total costs, the minimum number of coins, choices of sizes, etc are. That's why I'm asking for other people's experience here.
  22. Hi all, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I cannot quite find the right information. We're thinking about having our own personal coin minted. We know what tracking codes and personalized icons on GC cost, we have an idea of what a coin meant for sale with professional design, masses of email between shop and coin owner and different editions, and what a sticker on a metal disk costs But what about all those personal coins that are not quite so professional but still look good? I'm sure we can make a good design ourselves and we have an idea about finish, materials, etc. What's missing is the right shop and a price indication - and once we have an idea about that, more time for layout of course. Looking for your input. Mrs. Terratin
  23. There's no need to keep the 161m distance between EC and a normal caches. However, I would try to place it such that the icons don't overlap. As a courtesy we once asked a regular cache owner if he'd mind an EarthCache in the neighborhood, just about 50m away. Mrs. Terratin
  24. We had a couple of challenges we wanted to finish this year , and we did. We cached in 10 countries this year, of which several we had not been to before and yesterday we finally managed to get at least one find on each day of the calendar. While most of the year went very smooth with that, yesterday, the last day was a bit of a nightmare We're both been down with the flu and not really fit to go out. I still had to go to the office early in the morning. On the way, I got off the bus to pick up an easy cache, found it.. and could not open it as it was somewhat rusty and deformed. Next attempt at lunch time with a new field mystery, which was solved quickly. But then the geocaching app refused to accept the new coordinates and sent me either to the starting coords or some stages. Following the coordinates on the display I came to some likely hiding place but still could not find the cache Last attempt on the way home, off the bus again, find cache, struggle with the container again but finally sign the log, and off home! Phew! Mrs. terratin
  25. Congratulations, very well done Mrs. terratin
