  1. Mine locks 2-3 times a year. Most recently, I was out Saturday, the GPS asked if I wanted to recalculate the route and I said yes. Battery removal required to get it working again. I read in another thread the the 60 csx stops to "think" every few minutes and I'm wondering if that is related to the hangs? Jerry
  2. Unless you purchased the V very recently you should be able to use your second license. The bigger question is "what happens if you update map source?" I suspect that you will only be able to use it with one of your gps's. I went through this with no problem but I have not tried to use the V with the newer mapsource. Jerry
  3. I had the same complaint until I changed the pre-turn and turn sounds. Now the radio, the wife, the kids and the dog have to pretty loud to miss it. It's not louder, it's just different enough to stand out from the background. I would tell you what I have mine set to but the GPS and I are in different locations right now. Jerry
  4. I have seen the behavior on a 60cs plugged into a laptop. When the behavior repeated on battery only, I suspected bad batteries. When I popped one of the batteries out, I noticed the the battery connector did not pop out - a quick finger nail to all 4 prongs found two that "pinged" and popped out where I expected. All was well after. Since it is a cheap fix, I would recommend trying it. Jerry
  5. I just loaded routes onto my 60csx last night with no problems. I have even loaded routes with no maps loaded - it just uses the base map in the gps. Now, on to the how... 1. Is your route appearing under the routes tab in Mapsource? 2. Do you have the waypoints for the route under the waypoints tab? 3. Optionally, do you have a mapset under the maps tab? 4. Click on the upload icon and after Mapsource finds your gps, follow the directions selecting waypoints, routes and (optionally) maps. 5. If there are no maps involved, it will only take a few seconds. If there are maps, it could take a few minutes. 6. If they are still greyed out - I'm stumped! Jerry
  6. RE: Alaska Hey, if you see another touristy looking guy running around with a 60csx, say Hi. It just might be me! Jerry
  7. I did some more testing and the problem appears to be the the custom icons I was tacking on. If I don't load those, everthing is fine. I think I will just leave them off for the time being and see if a new version of the poi loader will solve the problem. Jerry
  8. Apparently there was something corrupted on the memory card. I switched the gps to mass storage mode, deleted all the files, flipped it back to normal and the problem was gone. I've had problems with the custom POI's that I'm currently blaming on the new loader. Perhaps that is/was the source. More testing to follow. Jerry
  9. Thanks for the replies, you have confirmed what I thought should be happening. This one is still new to me so don't have it's expected behaviors down yet. I will play with the memory card to see if that will fix the problem. If not, I may see how long it take Garmin to turn it around - I leave on vacation in less than a month! Jerry
  10. My software is at v2.90/v2.60. I don't think this condition happened with earlier versions but I'm not sure. From Find, select Recent Find, when the recent finds are displayed, press menu. My unit starts emitting a tone and hangs. The only way to get out is to pop out a battery for a second, then the GPS works normally. Anyone else experiance this? Jerry
  11. Frys had 1gig SanDisk micro SD's on sale a couple of days ago for $45 with a $10 rebate from San Disk. At $35, that is going to be had to beat. Jerry (Proud owner of new 1 gig card)
  12. I do have City Select installed but it is an older version than I have not enabled for the GPS. I too am waiting for v8 so perhaps that is the problem. I had read the earlier thread about the proximity alarms which is why I thought the version may be the problem even though my symptoms are different. I also tried to download the older version but it appears that Garmin has changed their web site so that is not possible any more. I will check again to make sure. Looks like I may have to give Garmin a ring on this. Jerry Addendum: Partly operator error? - I was playing last night and found there was one more menu level in the custom poi's to select a data base. Selecting a data base at least allowed me to see the entries. The proximity problem is present. However, when I selected find, custom poi's, I still got the message "None Found". I went out shopping today and took the new toy along. When I got back, I started to play with the custom poi's some more and lo and behold, they are now showing up in the find menu as I exepeted them to originally! The only thing I have done is have the batteries out a couple of times... Progress I guess Jerry
  13. I'm either missing something or the POI loader is not working correctly. I have a new 60csc that I just applies all updats to yesterday. I also installed version 2.3.1.0 and go ready to play. I used Mapsource to generate the gpx file of some local poi's (location of my house being one) and loaded them. As far as I can tell, the don't show up anywhere, find, map various poi folders, etc. I have verified the file in on the memory card. I have loaded various poi files, some from mapsource, some from oziexplorer and nothing. Everything else is working great! Alas, not poi's for me. Suggestions? Jerry
  14. I have not had much problem with the free version of ZoneAlarm and still use an old version of the commercial one at work. However, my boss was updating his laptop and home machine with each iteration and it got to the point the he was having so many problems, I convinced him to take it off. Very long startup times, sites not working, and (my perception) some software running more slowly. BTW, the only feature of ZA that I use is the privacy stuff (popups, java, activex, etc.). While the windows firewall may not be the most aggressive, it works fairly well in blocking the bad guys in my opinion. Jerry
  15. As an FYI, I was having trouble with USB ports and a device awhile back and in conversation with a tech, he indicated that on many machiness, the front USB ports are unable to supply the same power as the rear thus the reason some things work on one and not the other. I would think a GPS just might draw enough power to make this an issue. That would also explain why an unpowered hub might not work as it is also drawing power from the port then you add on a GPS. This was not the source of my problem so I can not verify it but it does sound reasonable to me that it might occur. Jerry I had two Abit mother boards purchased about 5 or 6 years ago and both had intermittent problems with the front panel USB ports. Never did get a resolution on the problems. The one that was having the most problem was not using a shielded cable to the front panel USB ports. I got 2 new MB's about 6 months ago and no problems since then. I replaced the USB cable in the case that was having the most problem when I swapped out the MB's. ABIT had a hard time getting their front panel USB ports implemented right. My latest is an IS7-E2 board and it sometimes fails to initiate the front panel ports on startup. I have to do a restart to make them work when that happens.
  16. Just a warning. The Forest Service has closed large areas of the National Forests in SoCal for ALL USES until there is "sufficent rain". I would advise checking with the the Forest Service before planning any activity in the National Forsest. Here is one place to check http://www.r5.fs.fed.us/cleveland Jerry
  17. I had a brain fade and picked the wrong are for the the SoCal closures.
