  1. Mark your calenders: Champoeg 2008 - July 25th-27th!

We are waiting for "squatter's rights" to expire on the campsites before we post camping information here on the Geocaching.com forums, but I wanted to at least get the date out there for folks so they can start to plan.

For those who may not be able to get a site, or just want to stay in a nearby hotel, this Google map search should be helpful.

    281 days to go!

  2. I'm there and I want spot 47.. where do I send my hard earned money!

Once everything is finalized on our end, we will let you know...

Glad to hear that you'll be joining us again <_<

  3. The dates for Champoeg 2008 are going to be announced...soon-ish! :)

For those that don't know, Champoeg State Park is located near Salem, Oregon, and for the past 6 years, geocachers from all over have come to camp-out, pull out English Ivy, take part in weird/fun events, and get to know their fellow cachers. It's sort of like summer camp for the whole family!

Champoeg 2008 will be our 7th year, and I really want it to be our biggest year yet.

The largest service group the park has had in the past is about 150 people. If we could show up with 175 or more, we could set a record, and do an amazing job of removing the evil English Ivy.

It's a lot of work, but it comes with several great rewards:

-Feel good knowing that you helped out a great park

-Relax and enjoy the company of some of the greatest people around.

-Take part in unique events that you'll be talking about for years.

-Experience the Shotski, shower shot, and DeLuge!

    -and infinite other things!

In the past, we have reserved about half of the campground. This year, we are going for the whole place.

People who camped in 2007 have dibbs on their spot in 2008. New campers will have several site to choose from (hopefully), and there will also be a large group camp area for tents and RV's, although there are limits to these areas.

If the campground fills up, there are also several hotels and such in the (very) nearby town of Newberg, Oregon.

Trust me.. It's fun <_< I'm sure some other folks will post on here saying the same thing... At least I hope so!

We really want to set that record for park service project, so please try and join us, even if it is just for the day.

We will be announcing the dates soon-ish here in this forum topic, along with this year's theme (for decorating your campsite).

If you want to get in early on making your reservations, sign up on the forums on www.champoeg.com so you can get the official announcement emails.

Thanks for your time, and I hope to see you at Champoeg :P

  4. Turnout was a little low this year for a few reasons, but we'll be doing what we can to fix that for next year

We are already planning it... I haven't had a day off from Champoeg yet! heheh

Thanks to all who came! Please share your pictures and videos over at the forums on champoeg.com. We have a topic for just such a thing...

If I want more people at Champoeg next year, I think I better start hanging out here again :anibad:

  5. Yeah.. This really ended up being a blast!

And like pdxmm said, it was so cool to see how many teachers actually "got it" and saw how it could be used in an endless number of ways in (and out of) the classroom.

Met a lot of really cool teachers and saw a TON of technology that I wish I would have had in school... Really cool stuff.

If you have the time, I HIGHLY suggest volunteering for the NCCE the next time they are near you. It's hard to explain the joy and satisfaction you feel after teaching someone how to play the game, and they return with a big smile on their face, telling you that "they loved it!"

Great fun, and I'll TOTALLY be there next time in Portland!

  6. Greetings everyone!

We are planning our annual Champoeg get together here in Oregon. This will be our 5th year!

Champoeg 2006, aka "C5" will be the weekend of July 14-16, 2006.

It is probably the biggest, most planned, most incredible, and most talked-about geocaching event in Oregon each year. There will be at least one event cache, but the festivities will likely start Thursday or Friday evening and last through sometime Sunday. Well over 100 geocachers from Portland, Eugene, Seattle and elsewhere participate in some or all of the weekend. Many cachers choose to camp at Champoeg for the weekend; some folks commute in for one or more days.....

We want YOU to join us this year! We want people from EVERYWHERE to come and experience our hospitality, our people, and our great state of Oregon.

Kiwimonster is organizing the campsite reservations for the A-loop (but not the B-loop) plus the cabins and yurts. If you'd like to camp, take a look at the map posted on www.champoeg.com, select an unclaimed site that you'd like (and maybe a backup or two), and let Kiwi know which site, which nights, who will be staying with you, and make arrangements with them for payment.....$20 per night plus $10 for the reservation.

Any excess money will go to the Champoeg general fund. This helps cover the cost of materials for large group events, potluck items like napkins and plates, and other little things.

Please visit www.champoeg.com, and be sure and sign-up for the forums to get all the latest information.

  8. You can now make camping reservations for Champoeg 2005, which takes place July 15-16.

    Champoeg State Park Reservations

Last year, we filled up the A loop and spliied over into the B loop!

This will be the 4th year for the Champoeg get-together.

We join together in a service project for the park, enjoy a huge pot-luck, then take part in some event caches like you have never experienced before!

If you can join us, please post on the forums at www.champoeg.com.

You do NOT want to miss it!

  9. To make planning things a bit easier, GeoNap and I have created www.champoeg.com !

It's not 100% ready, but it's ready enough. Feel free to create an account and post messages in the forum.

This will be the 3rd year for the Champoeg get together, and it looks like we'll keep on doing it for a while. We can use this site to setup the event every year.

There is a forum topic for suggestions on the website, so be sure and use it

  10. Indeed Soup...

Like I mentioned on the pdxgeocaching.com forums (which are currently down, returning soon), we want to make sure that we are allowed to come back to Champoeg every year. Once the tents/yurts are decorated, they will be watching us, just like they did last year (they even took pictures).

We can still have a good time though.. No worries there.. In fact, this year's fractalSoup event (currently called Warlords) will be a FUN, water-based, team vs. team event that will take place away from the tents & yurts. More details will be coming soon...

  11. Oh this is getting good....

Soup and I are meeting tonight, and I have a feeling we will be discussing the fabrication of a unique water-based weapon

    Bring it on...

  12. Way too cool, Johnnie!  I've thought about making a lightning bolt (you know, "Sparky") but was thinking about my Dad's lead pot he used when making musket balls.  Not sure what to use as a form that will withstand the temps, yet be easy to make the bolt design in.  Any suggestions from the audience of experts?

I looked into something similar about a year ago and found the following:

Using sand to cast metal things... You might think about using aluminum also.

  13. ...what can I do with this info ...

You can combine it with an economic study of the current economic boost geocaching provides to predict how much the impact will grow over time and use it to promote geocaching.

    Pretty good stuff actually.

You can also use this information to make a cache puzzle
