  1. Do you have kids? Would be interesting to know the results of your experiment. lol yes i do have 1 kid. I'll keep you posted on the results i'll get some pics here soon. btw does anyone know how long it takes moss to grow?
  2. I have some wall hanging maps that i got from a highschool geography teacher. I want to place a travelbug that goes somewhere then comes back to me. I want to track its voyage on the map and add any pictures it encounters along the way. Then i'm going to frame the maps, and place the travelbug inside the glass and hang them on my computer room wall. I have never made a travelbug before. Do you think a tb actually has a chance to go somewhere and come back? or once you place them are they pretty much lost forever.
  3. Agreed. Just find a dull object. I have a very dull shovel if you want to borrow it
  4. Well for a while anyway I thought I had a good excuse for a dnf ( well the cache is 5 years old thats probably why i cant find it lol). Thanks for the replies I just wanted to make sure my caches were well maintained.
  5. Thanks for all the help. The recipie i had never said anything about sugar ... or beer. Maybe that is the key. I'm going to try all these ideas on different containers and see what i get. Why is it so hard to make new things look old anyway?
  6. yeah, I dug up some moss next to a tree by our house (it was north side). Then I painted the stuff on and put it right back where it was. and got nothing.
  7. There is one in lake michigan. I think you can be a ftf, but you need special clearance to dive that deep. im not a diver but i saw it one day when searching around south haven MI.
  8. Does anyone have a good recipie for getting moss to grow on things? I have these concrete containers that i made last year, and I would like to grow moss over them so they don't stand out when hidden. I looked up a technique online but it didn't work. The technique was to blend moss with buttermilk and paint it on to the surface. I left my mossy buttermilk painted containers right next to where i got the moss from for over a year and nothing happened.
  9. I know the position of the poles changes every year. will that change gps locations also? should I be updating the locations of my caches that have been posted for a few years?
  10. I guess I need to read the rules again. I didnt know about the 2 mile rule.
  11. Does anyone remember all those toys full of lead growing up, and what about the toothpaste tubes made of lead? 5 seconds of exposure to lead will not harm anyone.
  12. We have a shared account with the family, But I like it when families find my caches and the parents log one story, then the kids give their point of view on the same story. something like (parents) tftc it was cold today. (kids) we had a great time especially after dad fell in the river.

  14. The quality of a rating system would depend on the way it is set up. I agree saying "would you give this a 1 or a 5 " would not work. I think if it were in survey form, with questions like, did this bring you into an interesting place? how long did it take you to find this cache? do you think this cache would be fun for kids? it would have a much better chance of being useful. Any way it is done it would still be a matter of opinion but, if you want better info ask better questions.
  15. I have built one of those, but I made mine out of steel and aluminum. Yours looks a lot more complicated than how I did mine. This is what happens when Geocachers work at machine shops.
  16. People cache for many different reasons. What's yours? I cache because I like learning new places to visit around my home, and it is an inexpensive way to spend time with the family. I am also addicted to happy meal toys.
  17. I understand many cachers do not have kids, but what about those of us that do? I like playground caches because I almost always cache with my kids. When we go to the park we get to find the caches as a bouns.
  18. I would log it as found, but I would wait until someone else found it first. so I didn't mess with a ftf. But I am not a statistical geocacher the numbers don't mean very much to me. The found log would be just to get the green box off the screen.
  19. What do the logs say? tftc took ammo box left lock n lock.
  20. Looks like we need to get some of those dye packs they use when banks get robbed. It might not stop them but it would make me feel better.
  21. Is there a way to see who is watching my cache? On the cache page it says 6 people are watching, this is a difficulty 5 cache that has not been found yet. only 1 dnf so far and I was just curious who was watching.
  22. If that was my hide I would take pride in the fact that it took a whole group to find my cache. When I hide caches, I try to hide ones that I would like to find if it wasn't mine. I like a challenge when I cache, so I go after the harder caches. So naturally I try to make my caches hard to find (or difficult to get to). That being said I find joy in hiding caches so others can have fun. I would never get mad because someone found my cache. If that day ever comes that is my last day geocaching.
  23. Some of the best caches I have found have been micros. That said some of the worst caches I have found have been micros too. It seems like every time I hear somone talking about a small cache on this site they say "lame micro". A cache does not have to be big to be good or well thought out. To be honest when I spot an ammo can 90 feet away while walking down a trail. I would rather have a challenge. ok, I'm done venting now I'm going back to work.
  24. I can't be the only one who does this. After I have found the cache, every time I drive or walk by the location I have to look to see if anyone is caching. The other day I was driving by one of my own caches on my way home from work, and sure enough someone was almost right on top of it. As i went by I hit the horn. They jumped about 10 feet into the air. I didn't mean to scare them but man, it was funny.
