  1. Man- I wish I would had been reading the Forums more frequently. Before the thread changed, I was thinking about why I go caching. 1. I cache because I spend time with my daughter (1Ladybuggal). 2. We have fun. 3. I get to Talk with her. 4. We have fun. 5. We take along her friends and I get to Talk with them. 6. We have fun. 7. We get to walk around and learn about the areas. 8. We have fun. I try to log my finds; she's gotten tired of writing. Someday, she can look at my logs and write, (if she chooses). 1Ladybugmom
  2. I often, but not always, go caching with my daughter. Sometimes, but not often, we take her dad along. Not often, but sometimes, we do not timely post my daughter's finds/logs online, because she is involved in other activities. It would be wonderful to have the ability for me to write the logs/posts and note that my daughter was with me that day. PLEASE research this idea!!!
  3. I use a Palm Tungsten E2. My first PDA was a Handspring Visor. It was replaced by a Palm Tungsten E, and finally today's model, a Tungsten E2. I use the GSAK/Cachemate combo which seems to work well. I've read numerous posts about the color screens being hard to read in the sunlight (and mine is), but I use the Palm for work as well, and I haven't bought a dedicated machine. I haven't looked at a Pocket PC machine in years. But, since I've used the Palm platform for so long, I don't anticipate changing platforms. It's kind of like the Mac v Windows preferences. I did download the Wherigo builder, and I've played with a couple of the cartridges. I dobt that I'll be buting a new GPS or PDA just for Wherigo. 1Ladybugmom
  4. My first car was a 1973 Ford Maverick. I loved that car (and still have it!). It was so much fun to drive, and although it is suffering from some car cancer, the heater core is gone, and the AC doesn’t work, it remained my favorite car. 1Ladybuggal, on the other hand, is thoroughly disgusted by the Maverick especially when I remind her that “it’ll be yours someday.” After the Mav, I had a couple of cars, and most recently, a Nissan Sentra (which is the only other car the Gal remembers). The Sentra is not designed for Central Nebraska driving conditions, especially rain and snow. The 13" tires rarely cleared the ruts on the gravel roads, and driving was a stressful daily activity. Last year, the Gal and I began the process of looking for a new car. I will preface this by saying, I drive cars “til they’re dead” and I’d rather “floss the cat’s teeth, than go car shopping.” After a long search, we finally settled on a Ford Edge. It has great ground clearance, rides like a car, and..... It’s PURPLE!. ( I let the Gal pick the color). Now the “Purple People-eater” is our choice of transportation and geocaching is definitely a lot more enjoyable, especially now that we can bring along friends.!!! 1Ladybugmom
  5. I found the geocaching website by accident. I was trying to find the 4-H project using digital cameras and GPS to upload "my favorite places." I found a link to geocaching.com instead. My 4-her and her friend have become quite a team, and now I rarely "find" the cache. They're out of the car as soon as we stop! Geocaching is really an activity that we can participate in the "off-season" (i.e. when we don't have animals and chores to do), although I think the girls would go daily if someone would take them. A 4-H geocoin would make great gifts. Let me know if you need additional support in getting the coins minted. 1Ladybugmom
