  1. Hello, I recently came across my first geocoin which wants to see each of the Wisconsin State Parks. We don't have a camping trip planned for a while so I emailed the owner to ask if it was ok with them if the coin could stay with us for a while and they were cool with that. So as with the other recommondations listed above - track down the owner(s) and email them if it ok to hold for a while or not. Phil
  2. Last I read it was a googleplex... Ok make that a googleplex and 1 no wait a googleplex and 2 rats 3 ah skip it...
  3. Thank you for that suggestion. I did just that and they were happy to let us hang on to it so that we can drop it on our first camping trip of the year - which will now include geocaching along with our hikes. Thanks again for your earlier GPS feed back in a different post... Perhaps I'll have decided on one by then ha-ha
  4. That better be for the H20 Plus package, otherwise it's a total ripoff. You shouldn't pay more than about $145 for the H20. Yes that was for the H20 Plus Package with included the GPS, mapping software, SD card, and card reader. Thank you very much for the comparisons and the fact that this "quad-helix antenna" is not necessarily all its reportedly cracked up to be with respect to reception under forest canopy. I have had the opportunity to borrow a coworkers Garmin Legend which was very easy to use and worked pretty good but it would loose satilite reception from time to time even with the WAAS enabled. I played around with the Lowrance iFinder H2O Emulator which you can download from their web sit last night and did not have any problem getting arround without reading the manual. What I really need to do is go to a sporting goods store that caries both, hold one in each hand etc..., etc...
  5. Yes it is the newer GPSMAP60. I understand that the GPSMAP60C is discontinued.
  6. The GPSMAP60 I can get for $250 The iFinderH2O I can get for $269 I realize one can get these for lower prices elsewhere but I have accumulated "Cabelas Cash" which allows me to justify the purchase. This noob is at the mercy of the moderator if I can mention "Cabelas Cash" or not Phil
  7. Hi everyone, Looking for my first GPS. I've spent countless hours and sacrificed much needed sleep reading the forums on these two which I have narrowed down to based on price and features. I'm drawn to the GPSMAP60 because of its "quad helix" antenna which I understand works better under forest canopies. It also has autorouting which I could definately use from time to time... I am also drawn to the iFinderH2O which seems to provide the most features for the price with the plus version. Both have the larger display that I am looking for. Both come from reputable manufacturers. So without going into more painfull detail of my "plus columns" comparison... What I would really like to know (hopefully from owners of each) is what DONT you like about each of these units. Heavy sigh... Tomorrow I'll probably find something I like about Magellans ! a weary tired Phil GPSMAP60 iFinderH2O
  8. happy to clarify... in the description page for a trackable item off to the right there are trackable item options that you can click on: Found it Log it Watch this trackable item Print info sheet View in Google Earth when you click on view in google earth it launches google earth - my assumption is that you either have to have this installed (freeware) on your computer or if you dont perhaps it asks if you want to install it. Its a satilite view of the world that you can navigate. Long story short it appears to show the path that the trackable item has taken VERY COOL ! Just not sure if this is automatically done when you register a trackable item or if the one finding the trackble item has to do the updating. Anyone else had fun with this feature??
  9. Ok one more post before I hit the rack. As always this nube would like to play the rookie card and say sorry if this topic is already out there. I have a geocoin in my posesion from a recent cache grab. It likes to hang out at state parks. We do allot of camping in state parks but due to the early time of year we may not get to one for another month or two. The last thing that I want to do is violate any geoetiquette on time of possession. What is the rule-o-thumb here? How long am I allowed to hold a trackable item i.e. geocoin or travelbug untill I find a place that I am proud to drop it in? phil
  10. Phil the nube again.... When grabbing a trackable item and then registering it - does this get automatically posted to Google Earth to update the "tracking line" and "stop" marker or does one need to manually update Google Earth when finding a trackable item? Been a long day and thought it would be quicker to post this vs do the research. Yawn - tired not board man ! Thanks ! Phil
  11. Thanks for the thread that did make for an interesting read. Will definately keep an eye on these (pathtag) curiosities and keep researching them. As my family grows in to this new (geocaching) hobbie we may consider a design (path tag) of our own... Have to justify a gps first - using a borrowed one at the moment ha ha...
  12. Hey everyone, Im trying to get rid of my rookie card but still need to claim nube..... We found a path tag which I understand to be different from a geocoin. From what I have learned these are created by an individual as a trade mark or way to show and identify themselves in a cache that they were there. Question - what is the geoetiquette when coming across these? Do you grab em or leave em? I have registered the one we grabbed at www.pathtags.com serial number [deleted by moderator] but will be more than happy to put it back if thats the propper thing to do. I suppose I could always contact the person that dropped it there and ask them....... What would you do? Thanks ! phil
  13. Hello, I am in the market for a new GPS and have really been leaning toward the iFinder H2O. I like the big screen and features for the price. Not sure if you can tell me but other than not being able to do autorouting is there anything else that this unit is lacking from one of the more "popular" Garmans? Any dislikes that you can share about your iFinder H2O? Much appreciated, Phil
  14. Hello MB, I am a nube to this whole thing and am also interested in the IFinder H20. I would be very interested in hearing what your likes and dislikes are should you still decide to purchase this unit. Thanks Much ! Phil
