  1. Sadly, I don't have that luxury.
  2. If you are local to the San Jose area, please PM me if you are interested in making a phone call to do a geocaching interview today. Thanks!
  3. That is fine for a cache with a higher difficulty rating, but when you go out for an easy cache you expect to find it. I would focus on caches with difficluty levels of 3 or higher if you want more of a challenge.
  4. Kent1915, If you are willing to take the time to put this together, I am more than willing to add a page to the CITO site with information for cachers to remain safe.
  5. I mentioned much of the misinformation that was used to push this bill through the house, she choose not to quote me on that. But I do feel Jennifer did a decent job of trying to show our side in a positive light.
  6. I am wondering if preparations for the upcoming GeoWoodstock III has them a little swamped, I will see if they need some additional help for a short time. Thanks for your patience!!
  7. I look forward to reading her version of the events.... "Daddy is a wimp he got a little scratch on his leg and almost didn't finish the hunt."
  8. Your welcome. Thanks for the kind reply. Let's avoid calling people names in the future please.
  9. I have requested permission to publish the letter but at this time I have not been given permission.
  10. If I recall correctly, in the beginning of all this, the state archeologist claimed that he was tring to contact TPTB for a year. I'm not sure if this has ever really been proved or disproved. I have been in close contact with the State Archaeologist since I was informed about the contact attempt last year. He has even sent me a copy of his letter, I don't recall receiving the letter. At this point there is no way anyone in good faith could say that they are unable to contact someone in regards to geocaching in SC. There is a direct line of communication that is received by multiple individuals. Currently, the State Archaeologist uses this as a method of communication and it has been offered to many others. Communication is not the issue.
  11. I have made them aware of the problem we are "workin' on it"
  12. See we are of a difference of opinion of what is helpful. I am just not convinced that putting my efforts into trying to update a 3rd party site on policies is the best way to communicate that information. I will continue to encourage the reviewers to work with local organizations. When a land manger contacts me in many cases I will put them in touch with their local organization, not to mention that some local organizations are the main contact for land managers. I also encourage new cachers looking for information to go to local organizations sites. I am working on a project to give those local organizations more visibility and a better way to work together. For now my time will continue to be dedicated to helping the local organizations be the carriers of local information.
  13. And the rest of us do without? I also get the idea from your post that you're concerned the reviewers will use geocachingpolicy.info as their lookup source instead of GC.com. That's not what's being suggested. Wouldn't it be in the interest of all geocaching to have a site that anyone could look up current policy? Should a land manager be required to contact every website if it wants to make them aware of a new policy decision? Because the answer to that is "No Geocaches Here". The community can use a place to check placement policies (not even just for placing caches, Hemlock, but even for knowing where to argue against restrictive decisions or whatever else it wants to do with the info). Right now, the only people "in the know" under your system, Hydee, are the reviewers. Keeping the rest of us in a semi-aware state doesn't help you in any way and at worst causes reviewers to have to deny caches, keep redirecting individuals, or cause friction over misplaced caches. Again, I point out that it shouldn't be some stipulation from Hydee or GS that has the reviewers helping keep geocachingpolicy.info current. It should be something they want to do to keep the entire community informed of current policies in effect in the geocaching world. No one does without the information because... The only info that the gc.com reviewers are "in the know" about are the policies that we apply to caches listed on our site. We take the responsibility to make sure they are "in the know". As for a central place for listing requirements that is effective then great. Rarely, if at all, will you find that the only people "in the know" are those that volunteer for geocaching.com. Actually in many cases they use the state organizations to keep them updated on their information. To keep a central place updated only takes one volunteer from each state to take on the responsibility to seek out the information and communicate. There are lots of cachers in each state, start seeking out volunteers. My personal opinion is I think it is rather lazy and selfish of some cachers to think that those who already volunteer lots of time should be expected to put in more. If you want to see something work then take the initiative to make it work.
  14. Hydee: I haven't placed a cache for quite some time so don't know if this is already done. Could there be something that before a person places a cache that they can send a message to their local reviewer 'before' placing a cache to the get guidelines for a particular park district? At this time unless you know who your local reviewer is by either having a cache listed in the past or by some other involvement there isn't an *easy* way to contact them. This is something that we have discussed quite a few times in the office, but we have not come up with a great solution yet. It is something that has rarely been an issue in the past, but as the sport grows and as more policies are adopted it will become more important. Until then emailing the site is the best option. On another note, when a cacher seeks permission to place their cache at that time the land managers will make you aware of any listing requirements for the lands they manage.
  15. I ask the Groundspeak volunteers to enforce policies that we have made them aware of. If a park emails me with a link to a new permit policy, that same day I can have that policy put into place for caches listed on geocaching.com with a quick email to the local reviewer. What I don't want is to encourage a community to go to a website to gain information and then when we say 'This park now has a permit policy. To list your cache, you must go get a permit here .' Only to have the reviewers get a bunch of grief because the other site isn't up to date. So, I choose not to to have the review team follow the policies listed on another site, that way I am sure that the info they have is the most current info we have been made aware of.
  16. The reason for adding "off topic" wasn't to avoid logs like Oregone's but to avoid users from abusing a cache page and turning it into a forum of communication. Which as been known to happen in the past, mainly when a cacher or cachers has an issue with the cache owner. Users take petty battles to the cache pages in form of 'notes', knowing that when they post their complaint about the cache owner it goes to everyone on the watchlist. It has been quite a problem in some areas. And something that is more appropriate for a email or PM than a log on a cache listing.
  17. Well, what with having to completely redesign the Gregorian calendar and all... Why do I still allow you to have forum access?
  18. The forum is new, I have a request to the artist to create an image but at this time she has been unable to get to it. I do like your suggestion, I will ask Elias to add it this afternoon.
  19. For those that are attempting to derail this thread please stop. If there is a problem use the "report this post" button and let the forum moderators do their jobs. But debating it in the topic is not appropriate. Now back to a lighthearted discussion about what geocacher's plans are to celebrate Cinco De Mayo.
  20. That is an unfair assumption. I guess it's in hardware's court to let us know what his beef is, if the official Groundspeak answer is that they aren't involved. -Aaron It may be unfair and if it turns out that I was incorrect that there is some other reason why he cannot physically drop TB's into a cache then I will apologize. But seeing that he logged in today and has logged geocaches since he picked up those TB's I doubt I am wrong. I would be happy to look into any issue that is sent to me. But as I said, I don't get involved in things that are sent for informational reasons. Emails of this type are something that I received often, and in most cases they resolve themselves.
  21. His email was addressed to another user, we were only listed in the copy line. I do not get involved until the email comes addressed to us, until then I assume that we were only copied for informational purposes and the two individuals are still working out their issue. The user account has full access to geocaching.com so it appears that he is attempting to hold TB's hostage until he gets his way.
  22. All images from cache logs and TB logs show in your gallery. Images uploaded to your profile page ('your avatar' and 'your photo') will not show in your gallery. (moving thread to getting started forum)
