  1. The Mapsend CD has the free free software on it as well as the Mapsend Maps you can purchase the unlock key for from Magellan. You need to install the Geocaching Manager and the Mapsend Lite and Mapsend Manager. The Mapsend Manager is what you need to convert maps and send to your 210.You need the Mapsend lite to setup your regions to place in the 210. and you need the Geocache Manager to convert the gpx or loc files from gc.com to put on your 210. The install CD is just the drivers for Windows XP,2000, Me and '98se. Drivers for Windows Vista are not out yet! If you are using Vista (any of it many forms) then you are out of luck right now. If the CD is not loading, and showing you the software install page. then contact Magellan and let them know the CD is damaged. It is an Image. There are no files you can access. No install.exe files.

  3. Yes I know no drivers yet. My laptop to go paperless is Vista. Used to do all from my XP Pro desktop. But the GSAK is the answer. I have been able to send files from GSAK on my Vista laptop to my SD card and my 400 reads them ( I have a card reader built in to laptop). But for now, because the time involved in removing the SD card. I load from the desktop. I just was told last week by Magellan, that Vista drivers are "comming soon". I expect that means about the end of the year with my luck. Quick edit: Tried something I had not tried before. Hooked the 400 up to a USB port on the laptop. Used the file sharing on the "in home network" to send from Magellan Geocaching Manager to 400 hooked up on Vista laptop. It worked and booted up the gs files on the 400. Step 1 to bypass the slow comming of Vista drivers from Magellan
  4. Did you use Magellan's Managing software? It came on the CD inside the box the 210 came in. The software converts to a file type that your 210 can read. Just copying the file to your 210 will not work. "old" devildog
  5. We have a Magellan Explorist 400 and a Magellan Explorist 210. Wife and I use the 400, the 210 is used by my 15 & 13 year old sons. It is hard to beat 2 units zeroing in.
  6. You will need a firmware update to your 210. If you google "explorist 210 firmware" you will be shown a firmware update offered to European users. The link is to Magellan's overseas site. You can download the update and install with out registering. I updated my sons 210 with this update about a month ago as well as my 400. No problems with update. You must back up all of your data to you harddrive. The firmware flash will clean out all of your memory. follow all directions and it will work like a champ. You will have the "Mark Cache as Found" on you menue. as well as a mess of new screens to use, and as we have found 10 to 12 feet better accuracy. Takes less time to boot up as it seems to find the GPSat's a little faster. I am not sure as to why this update is not offered to the North American users, but it works on my 400 as well as my sons 210. I ask why to Magellan about this firmware update, as well as to why there were no Vista drivers yet, and I have not recieved a response from them yet, and it has been over 3 weeks. I do have the firmware update saved on a Flash Drive. It cam be zipped and e-mailed. "old" devildog
  7. Lee I have a new 400 (about 4 months old) and the color is green. It has a total of 32 meg of memory. I have a 512 meg SD card from SanDisk inserted. I only use the "internal" memory to store POI's, tracks, and the location of the caches I have out. Since I use the GPX files to locate caches, it takes more memory, that is why I use the SD card. I have all the caches in the state of Iowa on the SD card, broken up into regions of the state. I do understand that Magellan upgraded the memory on the 400's about a year ago. Also if you Google the Explorist 400 for firmware updates, you will find a firmware upgrade offered to the European users and not to the users of the North American units. Why I am not sure of. I have installed this firmware upgrade to my 400 as well as to my son's 210. Works wonders with both the units. New screens to use as well as a way to mark caches as found on the 210's. I have seen the accuracy increase by at least 10 to 12 feet. If you decide to use the firmeware update remember to back up your unit to you harddrive. It will clean out your internal memory. After the update, just transfer the date back to you 400. On Magellan's website you will not be offered this upgrade, but if you follow the link from Google, it takes you into the Megellan's overseas site. You will not be required to regester the unit to download the firmware. I do have the fireware update saved on a USB Flash stick. If you would like it can be zipped and e-mailed. "old" devildog
