  1. I tried to use my own photos. The challenge is that I don't have that many photos that fit the dimensions. I currently use one of the FB cover sites that offer free designs. I was simply searching for a Geocaching version but still haven't found one yet. Currently trying to find time to design something. Thank you for your thoughts.
  2. I rarely post in the forums as you can tell by my numbers. However I lurke and read often. I am also an active Facebook user. The new FB Timeline allows for a cover photo on the top of the profile page. When I search the Google for Geocaching covers, the search comes up negative. It seems there are covers for everything else one could possibly think of, but not a readily available Geocaching one. I searched the forum database for Facebook and came up very few topics, and none on this one. So, what's up with that? I know that Geocachers are a dedicated (dare I say obsessed) bunch, so why can't I show my pride on my Facebook page? *sigh* I guess I'll have to try to make one of my own... Anyone know where I can find a few? Thanks!
  3. I think the most useful, cool thing I've ever found in a cache was an older Leatherman tool. I carry this in my geocaching bag and have found it to be useful so many times. Another item I use often that I received in a cache was a small penlight.
  4. Most of the swag in my geocaching bag are kids meals toys. When my girls get the same item several times they know not to open it. We keep the toys in their bags. Another place we get items is from Target in the $1 isle at the the front of the store. My girls like the rings, keychains, stamps, puzzles, etc. Have fun!
  5. Most of my containers come from my wife's use of containers for her classroom. My largest caches are from Pretzel or cracker containers. Most of my middle size containes are almond packages and game piece containers. The smaller containers are purchased keyboxes, old pill bottles and my new favorite...wife's make-up comes in small watertight short/round bottles. These paint up nicely, glue a magnet in the bottom, and instant micro. Containers are everywhere if you keep a watch for them!
  6. My avatar is the same as a couple of other websites I visit. My daughter drew it when I got my first Palm PDA. I went into the library and when I came back out she had drawn me. Everyone thinks it looks just like me, so I keep it.
  7. I was 37 when I started Geocaching and am now 45. I drag my beautiful wife along who still sits in the car, reads books and rolls her eyes when I do a found dance. My daughters are currently 19 (caching since she was 10), 10 (this one loves it!) and 8 (stays in the car with Mom most of the time). My active caches have been placed since 2007. I have never been to an event or even a local caching meeting. GC is truly an activity for ALL ages!
  8. Living in rural Oklahoma, we tend to travel for caches. It's a wonderful event when a new cache is placed within 15 miles of my home coords, and I usually run right out and try for FTF. I also tend to cache close to wherever I am (beit work or play). Just this month alone, my closest cache is less than .10 miles from my home (new series placed) and my farthest was 58 miles from home, when we were nearby for Christmas. It doesn't bother me to drive an hour as long as I pick up 5 or more caches on the trip. This is also the reason why when I have placed a rural cache, there is usually 2 or 3 in the same area. I figure if you are willing to make the trip for me, I should reward you with a few finds and not just a micro in the woods. Just my opinion.
  9. Jumping in for C:geo as well. I used it when I first got my Mesmerize and when it changed to Opensource. Works great on my phone and my wife's too. We also log our finds from it and visit the GC website when we get home to verify that all went well. My handheld gps died a few months ago and I use my phone and c:geo entirely now. Go with c:geo.
  10. Interesting as I haven't put much thought into 2012. My stats got my motivated during 2011 to 1)find more caches than any year before, 2)add another state (didn't make this one), 3) and reach the goal of 1000 caches. Almost there and only 4 days to go! Goals for 2012....Hmmm. 1)Keep geocaching fun, afterall isn't that why we do this crazy obsession? 2)Attend at least one meeting of the local group TAG...Been caching for 9 years and haven't been to one yet! 3)Find more than any year before (167 in 2010 and 212 in 2011 if I can reach my 1000 goal) 4)Still want to add at least one more state to the list. 5)I would like to place at least 5 new caches this coming year. Not a bad goal list if I say so myself...
  11. My username of Agent Okie sort of evolved on another website, WheresGeorge.com. I started there as Principal Okie as I was a school administrator at the time. An abrupt career change allowed me to become a REALTOR for the past 9 years. We had a lengthy discussion whether it was even appropriate to change your username and what mine should now become. Among the suggestions was Agent Okie (real estate agent). It seemed to fit and has been my internet name in many forums now for the past 9 years. :DIt's also my Jeep tag (Agtokie) which is often mistaken for Ag-Tokie! Lol!
  12. From the stats page... "Longest Slump 161 consecutive days without a find from 06/08/2009 to 11/16/2009" Don't really have an excuse, just life getting in the way of fun.
  13. Just last week we were able to find 16 caches in an afternoon. This is pretty good since we had to go to a nearby town to find them. It just seems to take so long to get the kids out of the Jeep, discuss in a calm manner (right!) who turn it is to carry the geocaching bag, find the cache, discuss in a calm manner once again who is going to trade what while I sign the log, and back to the car and to the next one. We aren't usually focused on numbers but my previous most found (by myself) was 14. As we approached 14, the family became focused on setting a new family record. Logged find #801 this morning, so we are a bit focused once again to reach 1000 finds by a goal of March 1st.
  14. I too brought my name over from WheresGeorge.com. When I first signed up for WG back in 2001, I was a school principal from Oklahoma. My name at that time was Principal Okie. An abrupt career change led me to my current career the past 8 years as a REALTOR. I threw out several alternatives and the prevailing new name was Agent Okie. I have been Agent Okie on several websites/forums ever since. It's my tag and now a part of my life.
  15. Awesome! This is exactly what I'm talking about! I appreciate you sharing this one because the one I saw was a whole lot more complicated. I could do something like this with 8-10 caches pretty easily. The problem will be finding a location that has 6000 feet across available. Hmmm...*brain wheel turning*... Any more locations out there? Btw, I apologize to the other thread. I did an extensive search and couldn't find any reference to the topic. How about a link to the other thread as well? I bet they have already made a few for me to study. Thanks!
  16. Hi All! I'm not a major poster, but I do enjoy caching! While searching a mapped out area on a recent road trip I came across a design made by placing caches in a certain pattern. I found a pattern that resembled a sheriff's badge, another that was a happy face, and several others. I don't think there are any such patterns in my local area. How would I go about designing such a pattern? Is there a way to search for patterns on Google Earth? I think making a pattern would be challenging for me and would enjoy the process. If you have made such a pattern, lets see it! Any helpful ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!
  17. Surely I am not the only person in the world to want a theme for my Blackberry Curve 8330m that features Geocaching. I have searched the world over (internet world anyway) and have come up with absolutely nothing. I can't believe it. I've seen geocaching tattoos. I've every kind of geocaching clothing, hats, etc. I've seen every kind of geocaching nic-knacks one could imagine. Doesn't anyone have a geocaching theme for their blackberry?
  18. Perhaps I will try the Navigtoar 2.0.7 if they have a trial version. I use(d) Cacheberry and it worked wonderfully until a few weeks ago. I had to start the gps through the Blackberry maps, then go the cacheberry and everything went smoothly from there. Just a few weeks ago, my Blackberry maps gps didn't find the sats. I loaded the latest version of GarminMobile 5.XX and it didn't do anything. I am starting to think that the GarminMobile trial version expiring might have had something to do with it, except that it expired several months before the gps quit. I'll check into the Navigator program and see if it does anything for the gps portion. Thanks!
  19. Nope...well at least I don't think so. My cell service is through USCellular. They are the ones who suggested the GarminMobile 4.XXX trick. They do not have any policy or code for disabling the gps. I think it's Sprint who does that.
  20. Several times. I've downloaded the 5.XX version and it didn't work so I deleted it. The phone automatically reboots whenever you delete something. The only thing I can think of is to find the 4.XX version since it worked the first time. Thanks for any help or ideas anyone can offer.
  21. I have a BB Curve 8330m. When I first got it the gps didn't work. I was told to download the trial version of Garmin Mobile (version 4-something) and it would jumpstart the gps. Worked great and I've been enjoying Cacheberry and doing great. A couple of weeks ago my gps suddenly stopped working. Mrs. Okie's works just fine since she hardly ever uses it. Anyway, I was thinking that I could just download the Garmin Mobile trial again and it might jumpstart the gps as well. It seems that Garmin has upgraded the mobile program to 5.something and it doesn't do the trick. I have searched for the 4.something version but cannot find it anywhere. I guess this puts me back to my Etrex which is several years old and not exactly working best. So....any ideas as to finding the version 4. something? Perhaps another idea as to jumpstarting the gps again? Finally, I guess I should save my pennies and get a new GPS. Thing is that I was really enjoying having Cacheberry and the gps on my phone for easy quick caching. Any input is appreciated!
  22. Oops...double post. I don't know how to delete a posting as you can tell from <=== over there, I don't post that often.

Agent Okie here in Claremore. There are several other cachers in our area. Bartlesville has several cachers who are also Wheres George members too.
  24. I use a Palm...Tungsten E2 for my palm. I got it as part of my business and it's my lifeline. I use it for nearly every aspect of my life including geocaching. I use Plucker and have the 500 nearest caches on, updating it weekly. If I happen to be working in another area outside of my normal mileage, I ran a special query just for that area and load it in the gps/palm. I know many people who say don't take it into the field, but mine hardly ever leaves my side. When I am in the car caching, I leave it in the car. I really like the notepad program, which allows you to write directly to the screen. I start a list of my finds for the day and any notes I need to add about the cache. I read from this when I get back home on the computer. I love my Palm and going paperless. I used to carry around a notebook of the closest 100 caches printouts, but it is so much easier with the palm.
