  1. I am planning a trip to Purisma Creek OSP on Saturday (7/31) morning and would be happy to have a few other cachers along. Plenty of hiking and 5 caches (Semi-secret Trailhead, GCHGK8; Semiprecious Park, GC64F1; Pure Quality Bald Knob, GCB277; Hot Wheels, GCB6B; Saluting General, GCJAW9) Send me an email if you're interested. Matt
  2. Yeah, or perhaps legalities. BTW, Edgewood is a San Mateo county park. Based upon my experience in the park, there has been very slight ranger presence for a long time now. If there were some incident in a "closed" park as opposed to an "open" park with very spotty coverage, it might make a difference for the park district in court. I think that closing is extreme. A warning should be sufficient, but it's a commentary on our times. Hopefully this means that the park district is concentrating their efforts, and that we'll see more rangers (in their educational and interpretive role) on the days that the park is officially "open". Matt
  3. Marky-- I really enjoyed the Woods Rd trail caches, although with the spacing at only 1/10th of a mile I had the vague sense that I hadn't quite "earned" the find. Great fun though, and definitely a way to draw me to a mountain park I'd never been to before. Thanks for all your hard work in setting the series up. Matt
  4. Thanks for the information. I've been to Doggie Do, but will have to check out the others. Learning to count in hexidecimal would be useful too! BTW, Born Free is GCD6 not GCD5.
  5. Does anyone know what the oldest surviving geocache in the Bay Area is? Are there any from 2000? Under the assumption that they are well hidden in remote locations, I'd like to find some of these old-timers.
  6. KVOM-- If it's not too late, here's my two cents on you list... 1. I'm pretty sure Hill Sign has had a fire. At least that's the way it looks from the freeway. I checked the logs and it looks like the cache is still intact though. 2. Watch out for POISON OAK at BAB#2!!! mjp303
  7. I agree with Walruz. The Jeep TBs aren't anything super special. Before I found one on Saturday, I thought that finding (and logging a find) would somehow increase my chances of winning a prize in some sort of drawing. You know, if I could find and log 10 different Jeeps, then I would be more likely to win a new...car!?! (say compared to someone who only found 2). That's why I was excited, but now that I know what it really is, it's more of a hohum thing. All in all, they're still neat bugs.
  8. Cache In Trash Out Day is April 17. That might be a good day to organize an event cache at an East bay park, get a lot of geocachers involved in a large scale clean up project, invite the park rangers to see what kind of people we really are, and build a lot of good will. What does everyone think?
  9. Thanks Karma. It seems like the simplest thing is to just go check it out. MJP303
  10. I am thinking of placing a cache underneath some high-voltage power lines. Will they play havoc with the GPSr signal reception? MJP303
  11. I'm looking for a southbay caching partner or group...I've found that the rest of my family is not nearly as interested as I am . If you're game, let me know. Matt
