  1. I posted this in the pinned FAQ's above but I decided to put it here as well.

Ok.. my situation. I live on the border of New Brunswick Canada and Maine U.S.A. When I do a search for caches nearest me(filter finds) many of Maine's caches come up. Someday I would like to go find some of these but not just when I get a few hours to go.

    1. I dont wan't to add them to my ignore list as I don't really want to ignore them. The caches in the "Ignore list" I will likely Never go find.

    2. I have a Bookmark list named "Caches in Maine". I add the caches in maine to it, but they still show up on my "caches nearest me(filter finds)" search.

    3. Can there be an option when creating a bookmark list to A - "Show in searches" B - "Do not show in searches."

I hope this issue has not allready been posted but I didn't see it in the preceeding posts anywhere.

  3. I belong to a forum that on the front page, every time you go in it has a random picture from the gallery. It is kinda neat, my pictures have come up there a few times. But there would be the issue of quetionable photos, a newbie might come in for the first time and see something offensive and turn them off forever......

  4. What is the specific reason behind beating the crap out of suggestions. I really don't see the point behind it.

If you know there will be people that speak different languages viewing pages, then there probably should be multi-language support. It does'nt mean that every listing has to be in many different languages, but if the owner wants to post it in a few different languages then they should be able to. I myself probably wouldnt but that doesnt mean that I think it is wrong or unnessisary.

If your travel bug made it to a foriegn country and someone posted a note to your page in a language you didnt know, you would soon want multi-language support, or at least I would.

I dont know what would be the best way to resolve this issue but I feel it needs to be considered.

  5. How about just adding an icon like the one below to the smilie list that anyone could put preceding information about maintenance done to the cache. It could be used anywhere whether it be a "found-it" or "note" or what have you.

    icon.jpg

It could just be in the note to catch your eye if you were scanning over the posts to see if it needs repair or has been repaired so you know that it is in good condition or may need some lovin'

  6. I completly understand your situation. I can only imagine that the limits are set so that server space is kept within reason.

Maybe the Admin could create a field when your creating the TB page, that states "Other Language Descriptions" and you could select it and enter the other langs. Then there would be a link on the TB page maybe on the top-right with the other "found it" links that could be clicked on to view the other languages. You maybe could also select the default language for the page.

I am no web page builder by any means but just an insite to a solution to this matter.

  7. I really like the gc waypoint option.. I do all my caching on paper and the waypoint is on the paper. Not really any faster way to get to each cache page I dont think. But if only I didnt have to punch in GC everytime...... :D sorry, had to say that...

  8. Ok, how about this... dont make any changes to the page. Maybe we could just make up a "smilie" that looks like a hammer and a wrench or something... that you could put next to your note indicating that you did maintenance to the cache.. regardless if you are the owner or not. It would just be something that would catch your eye when scanning over the posts.

Like I mentioned before.... dont change anything...just add this icon if someone wanted t ouse it...not just the owner..

  9. Yep blocko, that is what I would do........ but just a different way for people to recognize that the owner has done maint. People could scan over the posts and pick out a maint. post quiker than reading through notes.... that's all

  10. So Jeremy, I realize that there are lots of do-dads and clickers and buttons and such that people want on the site, :lostsignal: but was just wondering if this has any feasablilty.

Its not really a biggie to me, just curious.

  11. If we have enough spare time to go find geocaches we should have enough time to log them on the computer, no matter how complicated it is. Like the last post... sorry but punching in GC is quite a killer... :lostsignal: I'm really not trying to pick a fight here... just look at the big picture..... the site works darn good... B) Go look at terracaching's site if ya want non-userfriendly.....

I'll probably be banned from TC.com now for saying that.. they seem to have a short fuze over there.

It may not be needed but neither is the smilie with the bulged out eye.. but were not discussung his usefulness...

  13. Your right... there is alot of stuff there on one of your own... ahh well, just ideas that might lead to something useful.. but that would clutter up the options... we could add a few more to it like, "Found it with a green coat on"... or "Didnt find it because I couldnt reach it from the car".....

<_< anyways... I gots to go to bed...I'mn gettin foolish

  14. Here here! I would like something there too... many times I was looking for a tb and nothing... I feel guilty not logging a cache visit within a few hours! And I really dont like to postpone a TB retrieval because I dont want people to feel like I did when there was no TB in a cache that stated there was one.

  15. I have never really been disappointed unless I just plain did not find it. I have found a few caches in bad shape but didn't regret looking for it. I try my best to check on mine every once in a while and fix em up. Maybe add new swag and replace ziplocks or cache container if nessisary. I was just thinkign that if a cache is well maintained and it is in writing when people read the cache page they will feel better about going to look for it.

I'm not trying to bring up anything about caches in bad shape... just a idea in addition to StarBrand's idea of maintaining caches.

  16. I think it would add to the integrity of the cache if there was a special icon for "Maintenance Check by the owner". This would encourage cachers to look for your caches if they see that they are well maintained caches.

It would be cool if there was a spot near where it shows the date the cache was placed that stated "This cache was last maintained on Feb 10/05" and have the date a link to the note that the owner posted to report the condition of the cache.

That way if a cache was placed in 2002 and never was revisited by the owner for maintenance, and the logs report poor quality, it may keep people from being disappointed and encourage the owner to go fix it up.

Stuff like this adds to the server I am sure and extra work for the admin but just some ideas that might help out the cache page.

    Thanks,

  17. When I hit "Newest in (New Brunswick in my case)" on my cache page, it brings up all the newest caches in New Brunswick.... but not in any particular order. I would like to see them in order of distance from my home co-ords...

I hope this topic has not allready been discussed, as I didnt search the forum for it...

    Thanks, Oakley1975
