  1. I'm also having a problem with Garmin about why you can only load the detailed maps that cost $100 onto only one GPS unit. I just purchased a new GPS 60csx and tried to upload the City Navigator NT North America 2009 maps that I had purchased last year to it. I have already loaded them on my c530 car GPS. Now Garmin tells me that I'll have to buy a new disc (another $100) if I want to upload the maps that I already own to my new Garmin GPS. What a rip off !!! Does anyone know a way to work around this. I definitely don't plan on giving them another $100 for something I already bought from them. Thanks....YukonMike
  2. I agree with Stunod. I also have a Magellan Meridian Platinum, and I rarely have any trouble losing signal under tree cover. I even pick up five or six satellites inside my house. Be sure to put in some time searching around on the web. You can find some really good deals on GPS units. I got mine from Compuplus.com. Happy hunting. YukonMike YukonMike
  3. I also just bought my Meridian Platinum from Compuplus a couple of weeks ago. I did extensive research and they were the cheapest by far for all that I ordered. The Platinum is great and I absolutely love it. It feels great in my hand and it works fantastic. It locks on to five or six satellites within 60 seconds while still inside my house. It is packed with features. I also opted for the 128 Mb SD memory card and Mapsend Streets and Destinations. Magellan is offering a $75 mail in rebate for a limited time if you buy a Meridian GPS and the software so I just sent in the form for that. You'll be pleased with the Gold, But you'll LOVE the Platinum. YukonMike

  5. I just found a perfect, padded, carry case for the Meridian series GPS. They are made by Samsonite and are only $3.97 at Wal-Mart. They are in the camera section, black with blue highlights and come in three sizes. The size 803 BK is the one for $3.97 and has a belt loop, removable neck strap, and enclosed pockets perfect for extra batteries, etc. I was ready to order a GPS case for >$14.95 plus S&H till I found this one. They also have one a little smaller which looks like it would be perfect for the etrex series. Let me know if you get one and like it. YukonMike

  7. You can buy a SanDisk 128 Mb SD card at CompuPlus.com for $52.00. That's less than what I've seen other places asking for a 64 Mb card. I bought one there along with a SanDisk Card reader (recommended) for $29.99 and it is working great on my Meridian Platinum. I shopped around a lot and this is the best price I found. Watch the shipping though, it can be high !!!!!! YukonMike
  8. Dusty, what version of firmware are you running? I've still got 3.08 that came on my Plati. I tried to save more than on region using names detail00, detail01, etc and it only accepted detail00. I may have done something wrong, 'cause I'm just learning. Sorry if I gave any bad info. My intent is not to confuse. Thanks. YukonMike
  9. I did the same thing and finally figured out that what you have to do is upload all of your "Regions" to your SD card in one file, then change that file name to detail00. It only reads that one filename. It will not recognize detail01, etc. I did it this way and uploaded four regions covering the whole southeast into one file then changed the filename to detail00. Now when I go to Look for my User maps, I see the individual names of all four regions and I can choose each one. I hope this helps. YukonMike. YukonMike
  10. Sorry, I meant to say Mapsend Streets and Destinations instead of Streets and Trips. Sorry for the Typo. YukonMike
  11. I just purchased a Meridian Platinum and accessories from CompuPlus.com and I have to say that I am extremely pleased with both the GPS and CompuPlus. The GPS is everything I expected and more. It locks on to multiple satellites quicly and is loaded with features. The only drawback to CompuPlus is their shipping. The cheapest they offer is 2ND Day Air UPS, which for me added $41.15 to my total. However, when you compare prices with other places that offer free shipping, and believe me I DID, I still got a better deal. I bought the Meridian Platinum, 128Mb SD card, Sandisk Card reader, Mapsend Streets and Trips and the Auxilliary Car power cable and including the $41.15 shipping, I paid $453. The good news is that I'm getting the Magellan $75 mail in rebate since I got both GPS and Software. If you are going to get one, go ahead and get all you'll ever need now, so you don't have to upgrade in a year to get the extra features. Oh yeah, everything was NEW equipment, nothing refurbished. Good Luck and Happy Caching... YukonMike
  12. I just placed the order for my first GPS, a Meridian Platinum. I just wanted to ask if any current owners have this unit have any advice, tricks or stories that would benefit me as a new owner and make getting started with geocaching any easier. Thanks for any info. I expect delivery by Feb. 14th. Happy Valentines from me to me..... YukonJack
