You are right, you have come to the right discussion. The Groundspeak app for the Droid works very well and has the ability to do PQ's. Their app also will show you if you are in an area where a souvenir is available. There is a one time fee of 10 dollars. With that being said, there is also an app for the Android called c:geo. This app is hands down the best app there is for geocaching. This app includes live map view, you can be driving down the road and see what caches are around you. Then by just touching the icon you have all the info and past logs. This is a free app, and once you use it you will be hooked.

Looks like the new Groundspeak app will be out in a month or so for the android. Can't wait.

It really takes the convience out of it and your only allowed so many pq's. What are you going to do a pq when you pull into a rest area in kentucky and then when in tennessee and then and then. What seams so odd is that Trimble (who makes geocachenavigator) has apps for the droid and is trusted by Groundspeak and the phone is made with google who also works with Groundspeak but yet they have no access. If Trimble has acess for the blackberry then why not for the android?

I am going to give geobeagle another try now that you mention the Google map line. I just think that because blackberry and I phone are big names they get groundspeaks blessing.

I just switched to the Motorola droid from the blackberry tour and I was running trimbles geocache navigator, and it was hands down the best app for caching on the go( radar,compass,live search,field notes,past logs,hints,street maps,topo maps,ariel photos) also the most expensive 5 dollars a month. I contacted them and there response was that it is not supported on the andriod platform and they don't know if it will be, but they would like it to be. I don't know what that means. It appears to be out of their control. I was on a trip recently and stopped in many different states and tried all the apps in the market and found none that could be accessed when you pulled in a rest stop and wanted to grab a quick cache and only had a few minutes to do so. The ability to hit fina a cache and see one 0.04 nw and switch to the compass and walk 254 feet and click on the hint, make the find and log it to the field notes on the geocache.com web site for final logging later, made it so I didn't have time to find a single cache on this whole trip
I hope Groundspeak will be willing to help those of us that have this obbsesion to run out in the middle of dinner for a FTF or try to grab a few while traveling with out the ability to preplan our trips. -
In case you are wondering about the lack of comment this is kind of old news. The Storm (I got one the first day) has been discussed quite a bit. I agree the keyboard leaves something to be desired but there are rumors about a sliding keyboard in an updated version later this year and there is hope (but no leaked information) that they will add WiFi which is seen as a definate mistake by Verizon.
I assume you are having problems with short battery life and slow operation. Many people have updated to the leaked versions of the OS which can be located by a google search or go to crackberry.
I did not post this because it was new news but because of the new verizon update that is coming out and I dont want then ( Verizon) to get any ideas to lock it in the new version. The blackberry curve running 4.3 was able to run blaskstar and ect but then with the release of 4.5 it no longer was able to. So I just want to keep it on everyones mind so they dont get away with it. Also Verizon plans on releasing a new blackberry on the 13th of July (speculation 9630) on I want to keep the pressure on them not to go back to their old ways.

Sorry about all the typos but I was typing this forum from the storm and typing on this device is not the most easy task but it is the price you have to pay to have the only unlocked phone Verizon offers.

Let's brake this down. Premium membership to geocaching 3 dollars a month. Geocachenavigator 5 a month. Blackberry unlimited. Data plan 30 a month and then your voice plan. But I don't include all 30 dollars because I use way more data streaming Internet radio and movie trailers and instant email then I do caching.

I have been useing a blackberry storm from verizon along with geocache navigator. This service costs 4 dollars a month I think but it allows me to go caching with out having to reload anything. I can be in a different state and just click on quick caches and get a list of the ones around me. Then when I find them I can log them right from the phone. They have a listbof all the supported phones on their web site. That would be a good place to check. Trimble.com

Well for us Verizon folks we finally a phone that we can run programs like cacheberry blackstar and of course geocache navigator. I Gabr tried many of their phones and smart phones including the curve and all to no avail. Finally we have the new blackberry storm. Although it takes a bit to get use to it has an unlocked GPS. When you go on trimbles web site to get geocache navigator it states that it pa not compatible with Verizon but I have ran all thee and they work great.

I am using version 2.0.7. I went to geocachenavigator.com and they have a version listed just for the storm. It does say that it will not work with verizon but I loaded it and it works great.
Now I want to see if it will work with the pearl for the wife.

I used the Storm thru Verizon last night with Geocache navigator and with Cacheberry and they both worked great. Now I don't know if it makes any difference but the storm I have is a World edition and it uses both CDMA and GSM through Verizon

I just got the Storm with Verizon and I loaded geocache navigator by trimble on it today and it works great. It links directly to geocache.com and give me the caches near me no matter where I am traveling and has a compass and bullseye to help find it while searching. I also like the maps feature because I can see the cache on a road map or topo map or satellite photo. Having the ability to log it right then and there is also a sweet feature.

I would look on geocache navigator's web site to get the list of supported phones and carriers. If you have Verizon then they say your out of luck. I just got the Blackberry Storm from Verizon and downloaded geocache navigator and it works great.

I also have a garmin rino 530 hcx and I use that for long caching weekends but that is only due to the poor battery life of the phone while caching. As for the antenna issue, I have never had any problems with finding caches with just my Droid incredible. I cached all weekend at a mega event with just my phone and 8 batteries. Plus with the app that you can't mention, you can see others who are using the same app and are catching around you, cool feature.
