Recommendation for a Garmin 60CSX screen protector?
wurthless replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in GPS technology and devices
Well i have not used the above product,,,it sure sounds good. I opted for the 8 dollar pack of "cut your own" stuff from Radio Shack. It comes in big sheets about 5x8 and about ten sheets or so in a box. With that amount you could change every month and it will last for a very long time. I just change them when-ever they get a little scratched up. They have done a wonderfull job of protection and I feel it's the best bang for my buck,,,, shoot, I use it to cover my camera, wrist watch, ipod,on and on ,,,anyathing with a screen cell phone etc,,,,, -
Anyone here calibrate their Garmin 60CSX's altimeter?
wurthless replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in GPS technology and devices
How accurate is the elevation the unit calculates when using the satelites on the satelite page? I think it should be pretty good and why not just use it for the "known elevation" to input and calibrate the other altimeter. -
Garmin's "Project Waypoint" option?
wurthless replied to Timothius's topic in GPS technology and devices
In a nutshell,,, if you want to mark or "waypoint" a location WITHOUT walking over to it physically to mark it,,, you " project a WP" I use it to tell a Helicopter where to drop water on a spot fire that I see in the distance by giving him the Lat and Long of the waypoint that I project over the fire,,,,, so I don't have to walk over there to do it. Many other uses play with it and you"ll prolly come up with one of your own,,,, -

wurthless replied to wurthless's topic in GPS technology and devices
I had issues with my 60csx and the fix was to bend the prongs for the batteries out a bit to get a better connection. Cant hurt to try it. I'll try anything,,,I'm lost without it,,,,(that was not meant to be funny) -

Fire Department - forest rescue - what GPS to buy?
wurthless replied to Graysailor's topic in GPS technology and devices
I can't argue that the added feathures of the rihino are not a plus. In fact I hope they can be adopted by our dept soon,,,or at least the auto plotting feature,,that is sweet BUT I'm talking about keeping ALL agencies in the STATE on the same freq so it would take the whole state of California to program and use the rhino freaq, and because they run on a family channel I just don't think it's going to happen. If you get used to having a private tactical conversations on your rihino and then forget to re-transmit critical info on the assignened tac channel you put people at risk,,, as far as the 76 verse the 60,,,,the 60 you could kick like a football and still have a gps (IMHO) but the 76 is a little more fragile I think. You could always attach a float to it to keep it from sinking like you do your boat keys,,,,again this is just my 2 cents worth -
Fire Department - forest rescue - what GPS to buy?
wurthless replied to Graysailor's topic in GPS technology and devices
my department has gone with the 60csx. The use of unauthorized radio bands is strickly forbidden on the fire grounds. Is is considered a safety issue to have people using a radio freq that is not , or MAY not be accessable to all people on the incident. The thought is that someone might not get the word if people are using thier own radios instead of the authorized bands. Departments spend alot of money to be on the same freq and we whould think twice about messing that up,,,,, -
Are the contour lines any closer on the newer version? What will garmin do for the people (like me ) that just purchased the older version as far as upgrading???

Thanks for the advice. I know there will ALWAAYS be haterz and have learned to be tolerant of them also. I will keep trying to make a uniqe cache for people to find and hopefully end up on thier list of "never forget this find". Keep the stories coming , it makes for interesting reading,,,,, -
Garmin 60CSx does that ,,,,

I like it. Can you do a herd of stampeding elephants and various other beasties too? That would be cool, but does add slightly to the technical hurdles. imagine it in 7.0 surround sound!!! the ground could shake from the sub-woofer -
Whites 10 inch firefighter boots. Got to have the loggers heel for mountain hiking IMHO. Go lighter and looser for mild hikes and walks on the beach

Logs using slight profanity and UGH....ALL CAPS!
wurthless replied to Cydriver's topic in General geocaching topics
The actuall problem is your perception of the all caps. Is it REALLY annoying (like how,,,,to your eyes or something) or is annoying cuz YOU think it's yelling or poor manners. You can use caps to emphasize language as in my post, or it may be like the above poster mentioned about all caps and engineers. I personnally think people make alot of thier own problems, and tend to think the worst for most things. This is only MHO and I'm not baggin on ya,,,but if you just take things a little less serious and not pay so much attention to the little things you might live alot less stressed life. For ex. if the guys has good info and is helpfull despite his potty mouth. Is he sincere and not directing harmfull words towards others. I say let him alone. Of course I have a little different view on manners and language. At my house you can wear a hat at the dinner table if you like and use most any language as long as you remember the kids are here. -

Practical jokes for cache fun,,,kewl or NOT?
wurthless replied to wurthless's topic in General geocaching topics
Someone wrote recently that placing a cache is really an attempt to entertain people. I'd say you are on the right track if you are willing to dedicate the extra time and effort to build and maintain a cache with moving parts. Try to go as low tech as possible in your first attempt at putting out a cache like this because there is definitely a learning curve that will you will have to overcome in the field. It's really a matter of your own taste and personality as to how far you go with the "shock value' of your cache. Understand that the farther you go, the more likely you are to run into someone who takes exception to it for some reason. You got some feedback on that already here. Good point,,we are here to have fun. Thanks for the support and sugestions. I will be makine the stash pretty close to home so maintenace should'nt be to hard. And yes we have a wide variety of folks here, some very negative , and some very, very nice to talk with -
How about sharing all the tried and true ways of getting them off after they have dug in,,,,or even the ones that did'nt work so good. I heated a strait pin up with a match. Touch the little guy on the butt to make him pull out,,guess I held it there to long cuz I just killed it,,,,,,,
