  1. It doesn't need to be. Interest keeps it consistently on the first page. I still think it deserves to be pinned reguardless.
  2. Looks like a great repair so far. This is why I keep a backup GPS,for times like these.Hope the repair goes well for ya.
  3. Nah...I've decided against it.The feedback I'm seeing is most folks don't like micros anyways. And now that I've thought about it I'd rather use a micro in a stage of a multi rather than just by it's lonesome.I've still got four months to decide on a final master plan. Thanks to all for feedback on that. But really, that was just a side question added to my OP.I guess I should've made it it's own topic as it can be a widely debated topic.
  4. Anybody (Military or Civilian) have a CZC stories?Memorable caches?Meet anyone interesting?Share it here. I'll start off...The first person I even 'converted' was about a week ago here in Iraq.I was more excited for him than he was I guess LOL.
  5. That's why I said UN written LOL Irreguardless it seems to be the minority thing so I'll decide against it I guess.Folks seem to be all against it for the most part.I'll save up all my ideas for something better I guess.
  6. What he said. Briansnat you 'da man. LOL...thread killer with someone else's words huh.... Ok so I'm feeling that the woods micro is one of those un written things in this sport.I get it.
  7. I don’t think the end is near at all. Quite the contrary, in fact – my observations take me to pretty much exactly the opposite conclusion. Due to the sharp increase in the number of cachers like yourself who are (somewhat understandably) more and more vocally disgusted with easy, lame, mass-production-cookie-cutter micro hides, I expect that a rapidly growing number of cachers will either (1) abandon the game out of frustration (which will help the rapid-growth problem), or (2) redouble their efforts, resolving themselves to hiding caches that celebrate quality over quantity (which will soothe the ‘lameness’ problem). I predict that these reactions will, at the very least, soon begin to balance and mitigate the trends you describe. At best they will even reverse them somewhat. It’s like the ecosystem or the economy: it’s a great big complex equation with lots of factors and variables. Change one variable and everything else reacts until things re-balance to their new natural state of stability. I don’t think it’s valid to project a single short term trend to such an extreme while ignoring all the other relevant factors. What newbie would want to join such a game as ugly as you describe? What current cacher would want to stay? In short: There’s no need for us to pull up the ladder; the problems you describe will take care of themselves. And while I'm on MY soapbox: what is wrong with simply avoiding the types of hides you prefer not to find? The ones you truly enjoy are still out there, no matter how many easy and boring guardrail caches get published. The menu is deep AND wide. Vote with your feet. Lead by example. Go out there and find (and hide) the types of caches you like! You took my post the wrong way bud...I was meaning it in the terms that guard rail caches and stuff like that will be the only places left to hide caches, because they'll be so many of them out there, literally 500ft from each other.Thought I explained that through sarcasm rather well up there, but I guess not. I wasn't complaining about them at all.Hell,at this point I'd take any cache I can find LOL.I want to find all the caches I can, that's why it's so fun.I get enjoyment out of all of them. And nobody has yet to give me a good reason NOT to put a micro in the woods, other than "it's too hard"...and some how lazy. We'll see.
  8. Welcome fellow cacher... And the obsession begins.. Just don't cheat on virtual caches and we'll be cool....
  9. Is anyone out there wondering when the day will come when there are so many caches within the minimum distance of each other that it just won't be fun any more? Geocaching notify bot... New caches in your area- Every 500 feet on the guardrail cache by new_cacher222 I just threw it out on the lawn because it was the only place left cache by new_cacher 50023 Ammo cans down the double yellow line 500 feet from each other cache by I_Brained_my_Damage Screw it just ring the bell and ill give you the micro cache by GEO_whatever What about when everyone you meet is a cacher, and the odds of getting an FTF are literally 1:6000?Could it ever happen? I truly fear like everything else in mankind's history, when something becomes popular,by then it's ruined. And while I'm on the soapbox here,Just what is wrong with a micro in the woods?Vermont cachers better be ready cause I've got one or two planned that will be 3/4 at minimum when I get back.
  10. I have ordered affordable, self-inking, custom stamps from Stamp-connection.com I order my wheresgeorge.com stamps from them. Great service folks! Thanks!I just started designing my own stamp with them.they seem very helpful so far.
  11. I've got a Garmin GPSII which by today's standards is a dinosaur,a GPS V which is nearing dinosaur staus, and right now I can't decide to get a 60csx or a Magellan xl or 600 eXplorist. The II was purchased in 2000 for hunting and whatever, and my fascination started there LOL.I might just say the hell with it and get the XL/600 and the 60csx.Stll deciding. No matter how many you've got though, there's always that one you always seem to reach for.
  12. Are you kidding me?My buddy told me about geocaching in April of 05.Unfortunately I was (and still am) over here in the sand box,and really didn't pay any attention to it.I should have joined then.I joined in June of 06 and found some caches at home when I was on vacation for 19 days. Now I'm stuck here till I can get back for more.. August baby muwhahahaha!! Geocaching is probably the best non firearm/fishing pole useage of the outdoors!I LOVE it.Who couldn't love a real life treasure hunt??I can fully see why a parent would take their kids caching.I would have killed to have this when I was a kid!Hell,it's like being a kid all over again... except with big boy toys I've already got a guy who just went home from his six month deployment hooked on it...HAHA I was more excited for him to find caches and log them than he was! That's what it's all about..enjoying yourself, meeting cool folks along the caching trails, and having mini adventures.I really wish I knew about this when it first came out.I'm truly addicted. And I've only ten finds under my suspenders (Can't say belt cause I don't use one)! If someone makes fun of geocaching well.... MORE SWAG FOR US! cache on..
  13. I like to use it when I think I'm going to be crafty. As in "Oooo, that hollowed out oak log cache container is going to become my next cache...or IS it?MUWAHAHAHA But I guess the fear thing is right too.
  14. I'm amazed that they allow you to place caches in Iraq. Don't they get blown up as suspected IED's? We combat zone cachers(myself being a contractor) use common sense here.99% percent of the caches are very easy(rarely you'll find anything past a 2),and all of them have-"don't blow up" or "not an IED" written on them. Some have bad coords and they just give you a pic of where it's at.It's all basically easy finds to kill time and log one or two so we don't go nutzo over here while waiting to get back to some real 4's and 5's.There's places you could hide a five gallon pail, but alot of the ones I see are micro-medium size range. One great thing here-ammo cans are rediculously plentiful and free. But rarely you'll find a cache using one.I want to make one with a mk19 ammo can soon(even bigger than a .50 cal can,but a lil smaller than a pail). Here's one that I helped a fellow cacher to make that just put out.I got him into caching while he was on his six month deployment here. His first find was an FTF.I've been razzing him about it not stop.. .That's like going hunting for the first time and shooting a ten pointer fifteen minutes into the hunt. You family guy fans'll love this un- http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fb-1ffb4fdca8ce
  15. Don't everyone jump on this topic at once now.... I see you out there lurking!!! More than one person has experience with both units...I KNOW you do!Please share.
  16. *Sigh*Ametuers! You know you're a caching redneck when- -Caching doubles as pre deer season scouting. -You pack a fishing pole AND your geoswag bag. -The GPSr in your 86 Chevy K20 4x4 is the most expensive and rust free thing on the truck including intial purchase price. -You know right where local caches are by telling your geo buds,"Ahyup,it's up the ol' quarry road just past Juli's store" and everyone knows where you're describing,WITHOUT looking at a GPS and never doing them before. -Your GPSr is camo'd up. -Your "caching outfit" consists of a camo hat, flannel shirt with holes,Carhartts with grease stains held up by green suspenders and knee high camo rubber boots. -You know potential cache spots in areas that even the USGS doesn't even have on the map yet. -There's caches you put out that require people to "load up" during moose rut season, bear cubbing season,or cause it's a tasty-animal season.....you know, just in case. -I don't have to explain "Load up" to you on the cache page. -All of your caches require 4 wheel drive and no less than two vehicles with log chains and winches. -Driving directions to the cache include "Turn off the paved road and kiss it good bye for about 3 days." What now?Yeah that's right...your jealous PS-Don't ask how I know any of this stuff....unless you want to see my Chevy,Carhartts, suspenders,or fishin' poles
  17. Up here in New England, rocks, stones and boulders!I live in slate country, and we've got endless mountains of waste slate here- Here's where I got the image from if you want to check it out more- http://www.slatevalleymuseum.org/ The big piles can be dangerous to be on.I can't say how many times I've been standing on the river fishing and heard big rumbles of sliding slate. There are smaller and safer piles to hide in and trust me we make use of em'.They can be down right nasty for hiding caches, cause there's so many nooks and pockets in the pile.
  18. Here's one I made up to hide over here in Iraq in a palm grove.Hasn't made it out yet.Kinda sucks but it'll do the job.
  19. Never bought from hobbycache but I can vouch for hobbytron.com.They're not too bad with pricing and service,it's just what they sell.A lot of asian crap.200-300 dollars worth of airsoft guns and one r/c helo later(Everything crapped out on us over one six month deployment...actually in about three months),we all knew never to buy their junk again.
  20. I'm a contractor here just so you know...But I am a former Marine,and I do support the world's finest
  21. I've been using my Garmin GPS II since 2000.I bought a GPS V here in Iraq recently.I love my V and II.I've had very good experience with Garmin units.I use my units for Road trips,Hunting,Fishing,Hiking, and Caching.Pretty much a wide range of uses.So I cut my teeth on GPS quite a while ago,and have plenty of experience operating them(Garmin units anyways). My doubts start here.Recently someone over here purchased a new Gamin 60csx.WOW,like night and day with the ol' GPS V!Did some practice caching with it (had a buddy ride the wheeler out into the desert here on base and hide some stuff for me to find and vise versa).Outstanding unit..Friggen thing accuires sats like lighting! So I decided to lose the II,keep the V as backup and look in to a Magellan XL or 600,OR the 60CSX.I've read reviews on Amazon,Tiger direct and other sites, and it seems the xl/600 has about equal bad/Good reviews on it.The Garmin has like 90% good reviews on it.I also think I'd rather stick with AA's in the unit, since all you have to do is change em' out instead of find an outlet and wait.Last time I checked Black Spruce or Tamarack don't grow 120v outlets LOL. Anyone have any input on this subject?Blast away at Garmin or Magellan.I want to know real experience and facts.I'm curious about Magellan units, but if everyone's having units crap out or whatnot,I'll stick with Garmin. Cache on!
  22. This is exactly why I shy away from shady places I've never heard of on the net.I'd rather pay a good price from a well known company and know my info is safe, rather than pay cheap from some shady company like this.
