  1. I would be happy to assist but I am in Newcastle, which is a good 300 plus kilo's from Durban and Pretoria. I am right in the middle. So I am like a vibration...... A motion which doesn't know where to go. Now if there was a triple collaboration type cache with me in the middle...... Then that may be an idea..... Sorry bud.

  2. Bats I will be checking on them times today and will update. See you at the end of the month. Off to drop two new micro's on some old machines. Will post them later.

  3. Well if all goes well I am going to drop of two more for sure today. Two micro's on some old machines. So the trip from MP to KZN will have more places to stop over,, Don't know if they will be on your route triptrick, but if they are, enjoy.....

  4. Er I seem to suffer from this too. As there are very little caches in my area I am now resorting to dropping them as I go. I find myself going down unknown dirt roads and plotting routes on google earth with the hope that a wonderful spot will show up fit for a cache. The family is usually dragged along on weekends to go exploring, usually to moans and groans half way out on the trip. Eish.....

Leonw if you are wanting to drop caches, I have a lot of open space just for you here in N-KZN area.....

  5. Hey Wazat. I know the feeling Boet. Just look back on the second post on this forum. The only way to increase the caches is to start recruiting new Cachers. The same happened in Zululand. I'm happy to say that there are now 4 active cachers in our area and we are constantly introducing new players to the game. It takes time and dedication and convincing someone to purchase a GPS. Just hang on.. It will grow before you know it..only you can make it happen..good luck

I am in the process of changing jobs and am training one of the tech's to take over from me. He is impressed by this whole caching thing and he now wants to get a GPS. So maybe he will get into it too. There are 2 other cachers that I know but they are not very active. One has a broken GPSr and the other is too busy. But hopefully it will pick up soon. Still gonna drop the caches though so when more come in they at least have a better start than me.

  6. Where are all the Cachers in Northern KZN, are there any? I am looking to go out and find caches not just place them. Eish..... I just dropped off 13th one today. Almost catching up to my finds. I know of two that I must still find but they are in some extreme places and I need to plan a day around them both. If there are any dormant cachers in the Newcastle, Vryheid, Dundee or Ladysmith area. Please get out there and drop some caches for me. I need to find more. It's great looking for places to drop them but really guys I need to go find some too....

  7. Well Done Fish Eagle. Pity you didn't make the 700 on 07/07/07 and I'm sure 800 will be long before 08/08/08.

    Congrats Trackinfind on the 400.

And John-Gill and the new little geocacher...

  8. Bats, to feed back on the below quote....

Sure thing. Was going to check on your cache yesterday but didn't feel well will probably go up and check it later today.

Ended up only checking on the cache yesterday, I was caught by the flu bug. The Newcastle view cache area was ravaged by an almighty veldfire and I am pleased to say that the cache is alive and well. Not an inch of molten plastic to be found. I did happen to find about an inch of the naughty magazines that were left in the vicinity. Seems like the fire did a good job of a bad thing.

  9. I remember that a few months ago I flipped over to one of the channels on TV and there was some competition on involving people driving round and finding caches. But it was more a car race with simple roadside caches. Not sure what event it was but if they can air that then I don't see why they cannot air a geocaching event. Maybe they need a bit more action. I was a competitive cyclist back in 90's and there was very little coverage of races. But now as the sport grows you get to see more footage. So growing the sport of geocaching is essential for us to see TV coverage. Seeing that the sale of satnav systems is increasing we might be getting a large influx of new geocachers. Although the units are probably not ideal for geocaching at least they plant a seed. The more cachers the better the chance of events been televised.

  10. I envy you guys in the bigger centers. Round my area caches are few and far between. There are only two close by that I have not yet found. One cause it is down a gorge and I kept losing signal and the other up a mountain. I will probably tackle that one soon. Congrats on the achievements guys. One day.....

  11. Sure thing. Was going to check on your cache yesterday but didn't feel well will probably go up and check it later today. I want to drop another one or two caches here in Newcastle. Got some spots in mind.

Was in Gecko's (Spelled) yesterday for coffee funnily enough.

  12. Bats, i must check up on your Newcastle view for you. I will definitely get dirty with that one now, the ground is blackened by a recent fire. Luckily I moved the Mossel bay Diabetes TB and a geocoin from there just before the fire. Will inform if the cache is still ok, should be in the place it is stashed.

I agree though, caches should be a little hard to find. Makes it more interesting. Love rock cache was about two meters from where my GPSr was indicating but I took forever to find it. Was well worth the effort in the end.

  13. Problem is what do I put in it? 1000's of little things or something big. Just imagine:

This is a high value cache, please exchange with something of similar value around R80K to R100K.

Please replace the container as you found it. Bring your own earth moving equipment. Cache is well hidden under a few boulders.

Make sure you bring some camping equipment should you wish to try this cache alone.....

I can just imagine batsgonemad camouflaging it!!!!

Eish, who ever said geocaching would be easy.......

  14. Now where can I get a cache container that is about 10 meter long. Then i don't have to worry about the co-ords been out a bit.

Haa haa this is too much. One of my caches happened to be half a kilo off. But it was found. Sometimes people slip up on co-ords.

  15. Haa haa vespax, with the amount of traveling I do I could just imagine a bunch of DNF's Just when you think you have found me I have gone again.... And imagine some trade items in my pockets, er... a soldier to guard what? No wait, imagine walking in the street and next minute someone is pulling items out your pockets. Whack..... Oooops sorry sir didn't realize you are a Geocacher.

  16. I would have gone for a Garmin but ended up with a MioGPS 510 satnav unit, the minister of finance decided I didn't need expensive toys. Although it does place me near the caches I still need to do a lot of running up and down the cache sites to find out where it is likely to be then I do the mental thing to find them. Of course clues are very helpful at this stage. The thing about the whole placing of caches is that you need to make sure the sky is clear cause clouds are also going to mess around with your signal. And that 10 meters that it places you off the actual spot will be messing you around as well as the next guy. I usually go back to my caches and check the co-ords each time to make sure that they are more or less spot on. Just been notified that one is quite a bit off but I half expected it as it is amongst trees and I dropped it at night. I did leave a spoiler to make it easier for the next guy to find. Will have to get back there and check it out again.

  17.

I have noticed some newbees in Durban - but they are logging DNF - should we try to encourage them along or just let them be - any thoughts Noddy or any one...? It would be good to get a few more active cachers out there don't you think. Maybe we could have a training day event cache...hmmm just thinking aloud any thoughts, anyone?

Eish.. If that was me I am sorry. I had a bad caching weekend. Plus the better half is not really keen on the sport. Had to try accommodate for her desires etc. Plus my sister-in-law was with and didn't feel too well later in the day. DNF, well I spent around 15 min's on some of the searches and I have a MioGPS which I recon is not the best GPSr to use for this type of sport. So I may be off by a good few meters at times. So my searches involve a lot of searching. Plus I left all the clues at home..... Duh! But I will be back and I will be better prepared. :) Thanks for the nice places to visit Durban cachers.

  18. Gotta add another 2 Kaalvoetvrou it was so peaceful and far from any noisy traffic, the view is great too. You can see for many miles. And then The Cone at dusk with rain clouds rolling in over the Amphitheater. Awesome view. Then the dams on the other side with the sun casting the final rays of light on them... Wow.

  19. Thanks, I'm sure I will. Visited 5 sites yesterday.... last one in the dark... Eish. But I knew where it was cause it was a return visit.More to come over this weekend I hope....
