Thanks Redglobe. Yep not too many caches round my area... Hint hint.... Congrats Olo on 100 finds and colinaly on 200. Geez hows that guy 10 000 caches found. That's in his photo. Just check his total 11665. What kind of life is that. Awesome. And his stats show 107 in one day although he says 109.

  5. Well I managed to get to two in a matter of 30 minutes on Saturday. It was late and I had to get back to Newcastle but I passed close to another 4 to 5 just on the way out of the city itself. They were not Multi caches which can take a bit of time, but if you get an idea how the guy who put it there thinks, well then it gets easier. I must admit though some times there is a cache that will get you stumped. If that is the case skip it head for the next one. I try not to spend too long looking for a cache especially in the urban jungle.
  6. If you stay in the big cities and have just started you could probably do 20 to 30 in a day. I stay in a place like Newcastle and get to do 1 or 2 a month. I usually have to travel 250 to 300 kilos just to do about 3 or 4 in a day. So it all depends on your location.

  9. I see the point that you guys have here and understand what is been said. I however enjoy dropping caches as much as finding them. Some in remote area's that I don't often get to see. But at the slightest chance that I am in the area I will make the effort to inspect. I have gone to the length of checking up on other peoples caches nearly every time I pass them. I think that every cacher should have the same go in them to keep maintaining caches in their area much as I expect people to do the same for me. We are a community and I think that it is great that we can have such fun in this great country. But as a community working together will make it so much better. I don't ask that this be how it be done, I just feel that it is right. I am all for remote cache's but with a remote cache at least give a decent clue as to where to look. In most cases it is quite a journey to get to these remote caches but if it is it is usually for more than the cache. I spent a hour plus searching for a cache on the top of a pass and only found it after I sat down a bit to take in the scenery. Maybe a remote cache should be better planned with whoever is searching for it to probably contact the hider and let them know that they are going to look for it, perhaps get a bit more info as to what to look for where to look etc. Maybe keep the clues as a last resort. Don't read the clues unless you really get stuck. I don't know this is just my opinion.

  11. We had just as terrible fires around Newcastle area but non of the cache sites have damage. It is shocking the detestation it has done. Where there was once veld has turned into open stretches of sand. Here and there there are small tufts of burnt grass. It is odd to see just sand for kilometers on end. Fortunately no-one was killed by the fire but many farmers have lost almost everything. It was scary as I cold not see the houses nearby as the smoke was so thick in town. I can just imagine what the farmers were going through.

I see the mountain nearly every day. Thinking I must climb that one day. Yep, keen I am. It would be great to get up there in February they do the whole battle re-enactment. But that could prove difficult when trying to retrieve the cache. But if Bats and Squirrel can make it I am sure we could do it in September. It is intimidating from the camp site. I was there about a month ago just to scope it out. We will have to see.

And if nobody else gets here in time I guess you will get some more FTF's. Cachers in this area are scarce. Thanks for the visit guys. It was great to meet you guys. Now hurry up and get them caches published. I need to reach that quarter century. Eish.... It would be great if we could get a bunch of cachers up here at the same time. I am new to this so I have no idea about events and such but maybe we can organize something like that, I don't know. I'm sure it could work though. Problem is that we have only 3 cachers in Newcastle. I don't want to jump into something with no idea of what to do. The other guys here are not all that active at the moment. I managed to recruit a friend over the weekend but he is from UAE. Took him to his first cache yesterday. Now if I could just get some of the locals interested. Anyway lets see where this goes, from here.

  25. First of all well done on the newsletter. Very well done. I like the layout and it was an interesting read. I agree with colinaly, the size was quite large in Word format. PDF I got it down to just over 500 KB. Also there may be people that don't have MS word. Most people have a PDF reader. So yeah PDF may be better. Use PDF creator to convert it to PDF and Foxit reader to open the PDF documents. They are both free and work great. PDF Creator is about 12MB and Foxit about 1.7MB so be aware of how much bandwidth you have.
