  1. Man, some of you guys need to put the GPS down and re-enter life. I simply made a statement about what was on the news because some of you were ragging another user for stating the same. NONE OF YOU know if it's actually true or not and I'm more likely to believe the news than you guys. Nothing was ever said about war or duct tape and it's really got nothing to do with this thread. I'm blown away by the lack of intelligence I'm seeing from people here right now. It makes me ashamed to even be a part of this group. -------------------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS L.O.S.T. - http://www.kjjeep.com
  2. This sounds like a great idea. Walterboro is pretty far for me, I'm in Myrtle Beach, so I'll have to miss meetings there. But I'm up for the cleaning part. There's a particular cache in Georgetown that could REALLY use some work. It's not the fault of the cache, it's just a popular area for people to fish & such & people seem to think it's their personal trash can. So if nothing else I will volunteer to go to that one in particular and clean up. I know there are a couple of other cachers in my area so maybe they would be interested in helping out. I'll see if I can't contact some of them. -------------------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS L.O.S.T. - http://www.kjjeep.com
  3. Geez people, I was just stating what was on the news and that our government was having official press conferences to discuss these drones and how they themselves have the same SIMPLE technology. Never was it said that they were smuggling the drones themselves into our country. It was stated that they were taking them apart into such small pieces that there was no way to tell the pieces were part of an actual drone. Then once all of them were in the country they were reassembled. I guess I should have remembered that geocachers obviously have more knowledge of what's going on than our government. Suppose I should just read here and forget watching CNN from now on. I personally keep up on current affairs. I'm sorry if some of you don't see the need to.
  4. Well, as of yesterday gas prices have definitely put a hold on some of my caching. I used half a tank of gas looking for another access to a cache other than crossing some deep water. Turns out the only other access was thru a private gated community. There was no mention of the deep water in the cache listing. So needless to say I lost the gas for a DNF. My Jeep doesn't do so well on gas mileage and buying another car isn't an option. So for now I'm just gonna have to take it easy on the driving. But I've pretty much found all of the caches in my local area anyway. Guess I'll just focus more on keeping my eyes open for good hiding spots when I'm out now. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  5. The talk of the Iraqi drones is true. It was all over CNN the other day. Colin Powell even gave a talk on it, which was broadcast thruout the day. They don't know that it 'has' already happend but said it was very likely that it had & was definitely a threat. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  6. I think the forum isn't a bad idea. And this is coming from a female. It doesn't have to be a pickup spot. Why can't it just be a place for singles to come talk with other singles about an awesome hobby. It could be a place to post about singles geocache events & such. I've been online for over 10 years and have met quite a few very good friends by way of the net. People shouldn't be so quick to blow off this idea as to just people who are 'that hard up'. It's a great medium for meeting others with your same interests, which sometimes isn't all that easy hanging out at the local bar/club scene. I would enjoy the chance to meet other single geocache guys. If I don't like them I can easily ignore them, give us gals some credit. In the other forums it's hard to tell if someone is single or not, and from what I see it seems most are already hitched. They get to talk about their spouses & how they cache together. Why not give the singles the same opportunity? --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  7. My big beef with the members only caches is when a tourist comes by and places a members only without looking to see that the caches in the area are few and far between. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  8. I know what you're talking about...the "took cool flashlight and glow stick, left 2 pennies & a nickel". Makes me wish I had ran into those cachers while making their "trade". --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  9. I was using my Meridian yesterday from around 1:30 - 6pm in SC and had no problems. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  10. Personally I think the cache owners should be visiting their caches more regularly to make sure it hasn't become full of junk. There are very few caches in my area & the owners don't visit them often at all & thus they're all full of total junk. And I wouldn't say it's a newbie thing to leave junk because I'm new to this myself but my goodie bag is full of nice stuff. Not expensive, just nice. It doesn't take a lot of brain power to find nice items for very little cash. I think people who leave the junk are just disrespectful. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  11. Still got it wrong....he's got a KJ --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  12. Don't know about where you are but here in SC they have them at Wal-Mart stores. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  13. Hahaha, Prime Suspect...that was too funny --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  14. I got the 'ultimate gps case' at my local wal-mart for $9.99. It was in the hunting/fishing dept. in the case with the gps units. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  15. I finally found a cache yesterday that had the wrong coordinates and I had missed a few weeks ago. It was in the middle of a town under the back steps to someones house. Luckily someone else had posted the correct coordinates in their log. The original coordinates had it in the middle of a building that was inaccessable. I have no problem wandering around in the middle of no where to look for a hidden cache, but when it's on private property, peoples houses & businesses, it's very wrong. If you're gonna place a cache in an area like that I think it is your responsiblity to make sure your coordinates are as accurate as possible. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  16. Not at Wal-Mart's here. They are selling them for $199. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  17. Thanks for the pic. That was exactly what I was wanting to see and was very helpful. I appreciate your doing that for me --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  18. I paid $55 for my 128 SD card at Sam's Club. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  19. Oh come on people! It's a simple game of hide & seek. Why make it any harder than that? If you feel the need for months of planning on your cache, fine. But don't use the cop out of 'experience' as a reason for you or anyone else to not place a cache. I've found 7 and now placed 2. And I don't feel I'm lacking in anything with regards to my ability to place a cache. If more people would get off their rear ends and place some in my area I wouldn't have to travel so far to find new ones myself. Relax people, it's just a game, have fun with it. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  20. I'm hoping some people out there can help me out with this. I'd like to see a comparison of the basemaps on the MeriGreen and the MeriPlat. Could someone put in these coordinates in each unit and take a pic of the zoomed in screen so I can see the detail of what info the basemap has? N 33 40.976 W 78 59.916 Thanks --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  21. Where did you find a "wetsuit" type case for the meridian? --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  22. My Lab has come with me on every cache so far. She loves it. She's been trained out the wazoo so I don't have to worry about her off lead. Tho I do keep her on lead while hiking until I get in the vacinity of the cache. I give her a down/stay command while I go get the goods and then bring them back to her while I go thru them. She gets so excited while waiting for me to retrive the cache. I think I may even start leaving some dog toys in caches. Not bones, I don't like the idea of leaving anything with scent. Tennis balls or the like would be great I'd think. If you look in the check out aisle at most WalMart's they have a box of 88cent dog toys that would also be great to leave. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  23. Are you talking just Charleston people or any coastal folk? I'm up in Myrtle Beach. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  24. There are a lot of "park fee" caches in my area. To me that's not necessary. There are too many places just as beautiful and well hidden in the same areas as the parks. And there aren't multiple caches in these parks. Maybe for tourists who visit here it would be worth it (this is a huge tourist area). But as for caches for those who live here it's kind of annoying to have to pay a fee just to go find one cache. Then go down the street and do it again. I'm new to caching and haven't placed any of my own yet but will definitely be putting some out around here where you don't have to pay to get access to them. --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
  25. Did someone seriously do that? --------------------- Magellan Meridian GPS http://www.kjjeep.com
