  1. Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, I have played around with different squelch levels. The feedback is the same at any squelch level.
  2. So ever since I bought the Rino 530hcx I have had this problem. I am past my warranty period, so I can't just send it in. I've searched and searched for a solution online to no avail, so here I am. I can send and receive transmissions. However, after I receive a transmission, the static blares until I push my "talk" button. I have no issues sending transmissions. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
  3. I have the garmin rino 530hcx. I actually have a joby, I'll have to try it out for the bike mount.
  4. I have begun bike commuting. I'd love to mount my rino on my bike. I'd also like to clip it to my backpack while hunting. Has anyone found a good mount system that would do either or both? I appreciate any suggestions, experiences.
  5. So I have a Rhino 530hcx. I finally got to try out the feature the other day where my buddy sends me a waypoint. Problem is my unit makes static when I receive anything. My buddy's did not make a sound when sending or receiving. I want to use mine for hunting and that feature was one of the selling points. It would defeat the purpose if I scared the animal when receiving info. Anybody else get that? Is there something I can adjust/do to fix it? Thanks for your help.
  6. I just picked up a 530HCX from pcnation.com for ~$350 + $11 overnight shipping. They took my order over the phone. They are based out of Chicago, answered the phone quickly and were very helpful, all 3 phone calls I made to make the order(kept re-thinking it). I've been pleased with it so far, but can't say much as I haven't learned how to use it very well yet. I can vouch for the reception though. I was borrowing a rino 110 before mine arrived and man is there a HUGE difference in the satellite sensitivity in the new ones! Good luck!
  7. Thanks for your investigative work Renegade! However, I still believe it's the either the Boogieman or Blair Witch. In either case I'm taking my video camera next time I camp in those woods.
  8. I'm trying to research these two packs. I don't have model names/numbers for them. If what I've been told is correct, they were purchased around 7 years ago. One is a north face, and one is a mountainsmith, but that's all the information I have. If someone can recognize a model, then I can search the net for more specs. Thanks for your detective work everyone!
  9. So YOU"RE the one that beat me to that one, eh? That's a great deal. I emailed her, but just received the reply this morning. Good deal.
  10. $340's the best price I've found. Anyone find it for less?
  11. Thank you for that explanation. I was wondering the same thing. I had assumed it worked that way, but wasn't sure.
  12. I don't understand everything that the Colorado will be able to do. I heard it communicates wirelessly with other colorados. I'm assuming the information being communicated is waypoint, location, etc. One of the attractive features of the Rino series is the ability to communicate location and marked positions between units. To me, they sound like similar features, am I wrong? If so, could a Colorado communicate to a Rino? Of course it would depend on how the information is being transferred and so on. But I just thought I'd throw the question out there for anyone more knowledgeable than myself(which includes most of you reading this) to answer.
  13. That's awesome!! Contrastingly, my uncle owns a magellan, I'm not sure what model. He's had it for a few years, but it's not ancient. The cover to his batteries broke, probably in a way similar to yours. He called and called and called. When he finally got through to someone, they told him that it's a discontinued model and he would have to purchase a new unit, they would not give or sell him a new battery cover for the current one. To this day the cover remains taped. Needless to say, he has purchased a GARMIN 60csx, two rather, since then.
  14. mitzip, Wonderfully telling review. Thank you so much for posting prices with links! I do have a couple of questions for you: 1) Have you, or anyone reading this, had experience using a 530hcx/520hcx with a 120/130? The rest of my hunting group has one of those models and I will most likely be getting a 530/520. and 2) How do I become a member of your family so I can get "loaded up with one"?
  15. I was browsing the grocery store magazine racks and one of the covers was advertising that they had the best information on when the best time of year is to purchase certain electronic items, i.e. tv's in january, cell phones in august, etc, to get the best bargain. I was curious if we could put together an opinion as to when the best time of year is to purchase a GPSr at the best bargain?
  16. Any "lovingly used" units out there that still have plenty of life in them?
  17. LOL! Yeah, I guess my research wasn't THAT extensive then eh? I should've seen when they came out. Oh well. Yeah, I was decided on the cx model, then found that they made one with an even better receiver, so I moved my search for that one. It looks like I'll have to settle for the cx(I use the word "settle" loosely). It seems like a great model still. My only concern is the reception under the forests of the Northwest. Any experience with the cx up there?
  18. I have been out with family geocaching and am hooked! I've found just a few so far and really want to get into it! We will be moving to Oregon soon and are concerned about tree-covered reception. For that reason, after doing some online reading, I believe the Garmin vista Hcx or Legend hcx are the way to go. Unfortunately those are out of our price range new. So we are looking into the used market. Anyone have one out there they are upgrading from or for some other reason looking to sell?
