  1. First wanted to say that I regret not being able to attend the gathering at Strings as previously planned. From the sounds of it, there wouldn't have been any room for us anyway so I suppose it was a blessing in disguise. I am hoping that maybe something like this could be attempted again, perhaps outdoors at a park? That way it could accomodate more people and we could make a day of it. I know Pam from Pizzimenti-Scott Family mentioned that a while back....no better time than the present to plan the next get together! I have a quick question, I was browsing some of the cachers logs checking out interesting finds, and came across one that was a "where's George" cache somewhere fairly local. I couldn't seem to find the listing again and have a george to swap. Anyone recall a cache for the Where's George dollars? I know it was someone from the CVC ... Anyway I also wanted to just really wanted say hello, I am still out here haven't been that actively seeking caches as of late due to lack of time, but looking forward to adding more finds to the log soon. Sandy
  2. Well the times we tried were at night, we locked right onto the coordinates .. looked under and in shrubs and bushes but still came up empty. I was really looking forward to finding Under the Sea cause I had some specific theme items to put in there. I am not giving up!!! Far from it, just saying so far twice and no finds on either of those. But it's been a blast looking so far and makes me want to keep looking until I do find them! Oh and Pam, one thing about the picnic you brought up earlier, that saturday isn't good for me either cause of FOTE. What about planning one for April or May sometime? Sandy
  3. Yes it was nice to finally meet one of the CVC'ers on here. Enjoyed finding the caches too. I only wish there was more daylight after work! Or less work! LOL If I can do 2 a day or at least every other day during the week I think that is pretty good. Still having some trouble with some that are supposed to be "easy". I am learning that easy is a relative term with the caches around here! :-D Under the Sea has eluded me so far, both times have been at night and we have not had any luck with finding caches at night. I would prefer to do caching after dark, but haven't logged any successes so far. I suppose it helps to have a decent flashlight that isn't dim and cutting out all the time. Pirate and Mickey's have also been hunted more than once without success. Man Bites Dog and a couple others are still on the agenda. But it's been fun! Sandy
  4. Question.. any Hams into doing AMPERS here in the Central Valley area? I am very intrigued with using the GPS with my ham radio in the car. The thought also occurred to me that you could literally have a "mobile" cache that would report coordinates to a website via AMPERS and people would have to track you down. Anyone have any idea what I am talking about?:-D Sandy
  5. Oh I understand the fun of it is the whole hunt. At first you don't succeed try try again! I am all about that.. but being so new I just wonder with so many attempts if there was something I was missing. But I found myself feeling a little strange poking around landscaping and general loitering in public areas! *laughing* I have been frustrated at times, but I am pretty darned stubborn! SO I don't give up easily. I went for the one in Ripon cause it was close to me, and I hadn't had the opportunity to really check all that out over there yet. I apprecaite the encouragement and support, I just wonder if there might be better or different techniques using the GPS to find them? Thanks again! :-D Sandy
  6. Well still getting used to the hunt and how to really locate these caches. Went out again yesterday near dusk tried the "Green one returns" got some good excercise on that one, but was more confused than ever. I guess I need a better hint for the 1 cause from where I was I didn't see any way of well... anyway that one might be for more experienced cachers I guess. I also tried what was deemed as easy, but no luck on "Under the Sea" and "Pirate" or "Mickey's" I even tried "Man bites dog" and thought I was really close, but was unsure how many "coins" I needed to sacrifice at that locale. I don't really know what it is I am not doing right, I did find 2 by getting right on the coordinates, but feel like I must not be doing something right. Will keep trying, and granted it was dark when we hit some of these places, but even with car lights and a tempermental flashlight, left without being able to find. I think I will tag along with the Pizzimenti-Scott family on a run to some of these for a little help!
  7. Well I had a very successful lunch!!! Luckily the boss didn't notice how long I was gone. Found the Scenic Surprise. And I agree it is much more fun to go caching with someone else. My hubby was along with me and he actually narrowed down the area and I found the cache. I was SO excited!!!!! I can hardly wait to get off work here in an hour and go back out! I have been printing up a bunch of them, there are 42 in the 5 mile radius of my work which is at McHenry and Rumble. Okay, time to look for some more caches to print up and hunt! Thanks a bunch for the guidance and encouragement! -Sandy
  8. No I only work til around 3:30. Depends on how much work I have, I can sometimes leave early. Sandy
  9. I am in Salida, and tried to find the two here, the Exit Exit and the Y.S.Y.L. I also tried the Resting Bear in Modesto after work. I guess I am not really sure what I am looking for or whether or not I need to be a bit more nosey when poking around. Don't think I won't be out there looking again tomorrow though! There are so many around here I am just amazed! I am looking forward to running into fellow cachers along the way. Nice to meet you... if you have any tips for finding the ones I have already tried on my first go, please let me know! -Sandy
  10. Hello, I was introduced to this new phenomena literally over this past weekend. I got a wild hair to "dive in" and got my first GPS today. I was very eager to go out and locate my first cache ever. I printed up some of the surrounding caches that on the scale seemed easy (1/1-2/1) and attempted my first hunt. I hit three areas and was not successful. I am as green as can be and was wondering if I could get a little friendly guidance. I haven't had a chance to actually go out with a more experienced cacher yet, but I am so very eager to score my first find! Now I was tempted to go to the Flower Cam Web Cam cache just because it's pretty obvious where it is and extremely easy, but that was TOO easy. I still plan to log that one here soon it's a cool cache. I am also eager to place caches and have some questions. How appropriate is it to place caches say on one's own property? I am really excited about this new hobby, and really want to find my first cache! -Sandy
