  1. get a cheap Palm or pocket PC for paperless caching, it's awesome with GSAK you can use it to send the caches to the GPSr and the Palm. It contains ALL the info on the cache right in there.
  2. For the same price as the Legend you could actually pick up one of the 500 series(400-500) which also has the upgradeable memory and a nice color screen.
  3. Is there a way to get the GSAK transfered files that have been previously found to show up as found on the GPSr? Everytime I transfer my files from GSAK the found caches show in the GPSr as normal(not found) caches? 1 other thing, is there a way to modify geocache info once transfered to the unit or is the only way through GSAK or geocache manager? It's just a slight annoyance, but say there's a mystery cache that you work on in the field or on your Palm and figure out the coords is there a way to modify the coords from the GPS or do you have to create a new POI? Has anyone had an issue where when plugged into USB it switches from Ext Power to battery constantly? It seems to do this when plugged into my PC or laptop. I just noticed this this week(only had the unit for 3 weeks) thinking of going back for an over the counter swap.
  4. yeah, that's not that far off I guess. Didn't know this was possible! Thanks for the prompt reply!
  5. Hello everyone, Being a new member here, I was hoping that there would be a way of doing PQs by "map it", therefor you could zoom in or out and capture all the caches in a specific area, I know there's some areas that have relatively sparse cache placement and that way you could grab all of them in one outing. I do most of my finding with mapping.
  6. I picked up one of these also. I love it, especially now that I found out that Motorola T720/730 series batteries fit the unit! No more sucking through AAA batteries for me!! lol I just happened to have an old Motorola T731C kicking around, and found 2 spares @ Princess Auto for 4.99+tax!! I'm debating picking up topo Canada, anyone have this/use this?? Any thoughts?
  7. I figured it out! I didn't realize you had to go to track log, then active track and save or convert to route. then You can import it into MapSend or other progs.
  8. Can someone give me a step by step on how to dowload routes from an eXplorist 500. I have been trying for a week now and nothing seems to work. For some reason the routes folder contains a file that has 1kb and this is the entire contents of the file : $PMGNCMD,END*3D I think I'm describing it right when I say routes(it's the lines created as you're going somewhere that the gps automatically does) Is there an easier way of doing this? I tried through Mapsend Lite, it doesn't recognize my unit. I've tried NMEA mode with no better results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  9. You used the GPS> export to Magellan eXplorist option on both?
  10. there's 2 ways to see GC points first one is to do GOTO geocaching points and then select the method you want, either by location/city then you'll have a list to choose from OR once they are loaded they show on the map display as GC containers sort of like points of interest or waypoints.
  11. just to check, if you go to Menu button>Preferences>active setup then select Geocaches ENTER Select File ENTER up one level twice and select SD Card then select [filename].gs then do a goto geocache pts. Thos should work. Works for me, otherwise use a program like GPSbabel(which I have never used) or GSAK(geocaching Swiss Army Knife) import files in GPX format and export to Explorist, it'll give you a save option, just send it to your SD card and voila!
  12. What style case is it, leather, neoprene...?? And what would shipping be to Canada?
  13. I had the same problem for the first few caches. turns out the settings on my GPSr were wrong. Usually you should be able to go into some sort of an "options menu" and make sure you have it set to hddd mm.mmm and you should be using map datum WGS 84 with "true" north reference. I know that this was my problem when I 1st started. It usually made me off by between 40m to 13KM. I would try mapping with google maps(or the map it feature) to see if I seem to be close to whatever it is I'm looking for. Hope this helps!!
