  1. I've had a Garmin 72 for a few weeks and my dad has used a Garmin 12 for a few years. I just use mine for caching. He uses his for shrimping, hunting, fishing, caching, etc. I have been shrimping and fishing with him and the 12 has worked great! Waves splashing up on the thing and all. About the water issue. I don't think that the units were meant to be tested by users holding them under water. The reception would be severly compromised... Do you guys navigate under water?? Enough ranting. kc row, row, row your boat
  2. I think that I'll wait on the snow to melt before I go looking for benchmarks. Although, we're supposed to get some more snow tomorrow night. Thanks for the help. quote:Originally posted by beejay&esskay: In my area, there are a significant number of benchmarks with "scaled" coordinates and an estimated error of +/- 6 seconds. That's a huge error if you are trying to find something in the snow. Trust the description of where it is. I noticed the descriptions but I just didn't want to print out all of those pages!! kc row, row, row your boat
  3. Why isn't this forum renamed to Mid-Atlantic? New England is more northeast than the "Northeast" section . Who do we contact to change forum names? kc row, row, row your boat
  4. Does anyone know how far off the NAD87 is from the WGS84 map datum. I went looking for a benchmark yesterday and I could not find it. I realized today that the map datum on my gps was not the same as what was reported on the website. I'm going back today to use the right datum and dig through the snow. kc row, row, row your boat
  5. I was wondering how many other models have problems during cloudy weather. I would think that the signals would be strong enough to get through the clouds!
  6. I just got a Garmin 72 from gpsnow.com Everyone else had it for 159.99. GPSnow.comhad it for 149.90 shipping included. It did take 3 days to get here, but that was because I selected the USPS Priority Service delivery. Normally Priority mail is 2-3 days. No one that I saw had it cheaper and it is new so it was still in it's original wrapping. kc row, row, row your boat
  7. I finally got the GPS 72 in the mail yesterday. But it started snowing so instead of leading people straight to caches with my footprints, I took some time to learn about it by actually reading the manual . Before it started snowing I did manage to get the location of my house and the estimated accuracy was about 35ft. I would hope that it was just because of the snow clouds and poor visibility. We'll see today when there are significantly less clouds. I did try to find a benchmark, but the signal was jumping around so much that I gave up because it was cold and about to snow. Again I'm hoping that the weather conditions were the problem. Tubby kc row, row, row your boat
  8. Has anyone used this GPS yet. I just purchased one and it is on its way. I was just wondering if anyone has it and how they like it. My dad has a GPS 12 that's about 5 or 6 years old but now he has me hooked on geocaching and I had to have one. I got it for 149.90 from GPSNOW.com and that includes shipping. kc row, row, row your boat
