  1. I have the garmin 72. I love the buttons on the top. My thumb never gets in the way of the display and it just feels right in my hand. Admittedly, I've never tried a gps with either buttons on the side or on the bottom, but I'm happy with mine and I guess that that is all that matters. kc row, row, row your boat
  2. USAPhotoMaps is amazingly accurate. I would only recommend it if you have a FAST connection. Basically you'll be downloading satelite photos of specific areas. I put some of my waypoints in it and they were right on...all of them. kc row, row, row your boat

  4. I saw the thread about the Meridian codes, but are there any for Garmin units? kc row, row, row your boat
  5. The under water thing seems to be a little harder but doesn't mean that it should be archived. According to my GPS, Blackbeard's Blackwater Cache's first leg is somewhere in the middle of the James river in Lynchburg. I haven't tried it yet because of recent rains, but I WILL try it eventually. kc row, row, row your boat
  6. Yeah. I just got one today. Not to point out the obvious but are you sure that you have at least one day selected on the PQ form? kc row, row, row your boat
  7. Holy cow...I didn't mean to start all of this. I was just making a comment. By the way, I do program my website so that it can be viewed and used by other browsers. I was just making the comment that if there are problems that everyone is having, THOSE are more important than problems that only 1% of the users are having. But the situation might be where that 1% does 99% of your business. Then the situation would be reversed. IMHO. kc row, row, row your boat
  8. Hey I didn't know people would do this.... I would like a new GPS. Mapping capabilities please.. Please email me and I'll tell you if it is what I want. kc row, row, row your boat
  9. I thought that one of the uses of the benchmarks is to confirm the coordinates of the benchmark. So if you are ~2 miles from a lighthouse then you can't verify the coords. Just my thought on the matter, but I haven't found any yet. So what do I know. kc row, row, row your boat
  10. Still can't delete posts.... [This message was edited by Tubby Rower on March 28, 2003 at 05:26 AM.]
  11. I thrilled with how fast the searches are now. The old Markwells will need to be updated with the new URL's but hopefully this will prevent a lot of the repeat questions. kc row, row, row your boat

  13. According to TheCounter.com only 1% of all of the hits that they get on the websites registered with them use Netscape. As a designer, you try to accommidate as many as possible. 1% is a lot of people, but overall if there are bigger problems then you attack those first. kc row, row, row your boat
  14. I have the 72. The resolution on it is fine. I don't think that the extra resolution is worth the money. Maybe the ext. ant. but not the resolution. kc row, row, row your boat
  15. then you had better get a GPSMap 76 instead of GPS 76 or GPS 72. The map version's MSRP $400, non-map 76 $251, 72 $171. You probably need to get a mapping gps. These cost a little more. just make sure that the 76 you get is the mapping one not just the souped up 72 with the ext. ant. hookup.. Compare the models here kc row, row, row your boat
  16. if HTML is on if UBBCode is on [#IMG]location of picture on web somewhere[#/IMG] but take out the #...they were put there to get around the ubbcode kc row, row, row your boat
  17. quote:Originally posted by jlw82: Is it a good GPS? Can I upload other maps to the GPS. Like streetmaps over cities? Or do I need a GPS with MAP then? Is it price worth? I have one and love it. Is it a good GPS? yes. No maps. The price issue depends on what you want/need. Here is a list of things that I like about it: buttons on the front 10-character waypoint name fairly cheap ($149.90 at gpsnow.com - including shipping) I have one Any of the GPS's out there will be great. If you search through the forums here, people have almost every type that you can get. Very few people have said that their GPS is completely useless. Maps are nice but they do cost extra. The rinos have a radio function on them. A LOT of people seem to have the Etrex Vista (I think that this one has the maps). My brother usees the yellow Etrex. He loves it. My advice... Buy a little more than you think that you need right now. That way later you won't kick yourself for paying the "little bit" of extra money to get something that you want then. kc row, row, row your boat
  18. the Garmin 72. The buttons are on the front and they are in a good position for thumb operation. The eTrex buttons are on the side and I was familiar with my dad'd Garmin 12 (the 12 is the "predecessor" to the 72.) quote:Originally posted by nincehelser:One thing I don't like is positioning of the buttons, though. 19. But great circle distances are shorter than the "straight-line" distance. So the GPS distance should be shorter than the map straight-line distance. Maybe the distance included the trip to the airport, from the airport to the Swiss cache? If you used the odometer on the gps then all movements would be recorded, not just point-to-point distance. kc row, row, row your boat
  20. quote:Originally posted by Indiana Jeff:Looks like there are a lot of "Tom Jones" caches out there..... Tom Jones? Don't want to sound stupid, but what does that mean? We have a Tom Jones Drugstore around here. That's why I was asking. kc row, row, row your boat
  21. I started out with the garmin 72. It's easy to use and it has 10 characters for the waypoint names. no maps. ~$150-160. Shop around though. I got mine from gpsnow.com for 149.90 (that price includes the shipping). Of course, after I got it I had to have the cables and a case for it too. If you're looking for the cheapest one that will do what you want, the yellow eTrex is great. My brother has one of those and he loves it. I guess basically you just have to go make a decision because you're losing valuable caching time!!!! kc row, row, row your boat
