  1. And that my folks is the bottom line. I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. By: Robert Service
  2. I became a charter member before ever even going after a cache. I read these forum boards and found alot of good people involved, then decided I wanted to pay my fair share toward this sport and to maintain this marvelous website. And to keep the D*** POP-UPS off this website. That alone is worth $30 a year. I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. By: Robert Service
  3. for a good Magellan help forum, goto and join user group Also, I downloaded a Manual in PDF file from Magellan website and printed it out. The book that came with my unit was only to get started. The CD manual would not print out very well. I had to upgrade my Adobe acrobat reader to version 5.# also. 4. Mine is after a fictional hero of a book I read over 20 years ago, and now is a movie in DVD. I bought my English subtitled DVD on Ebay. A partial review follows and the rest can be seen at this web site, it can also be purchased in DVD from this page. I have no connection to the above website and only post it here for your reference. Please forgive me for this long post. If you ever read the book or watch the movie, you will understand. "Dersu Uzala :Kurosawas Vision of Man in Nature Dersu Uzala is one of my favorite films, a film to be cherished for its subtlties and how they eventually lead to larger truths. Very few films are made on the themes of compassion and subtle bravery. Yuri Solomin, the Russian captain who leads a small squad of soldiers into the Siberian wilds to survey the land, is one of the most memorable portraits of compassion ever put on film. His relationship to Dersu (Maksum Muzuk)is almost totally intuitive and wordless. The captain knows almost from the onset that this Goldi wilderness hunter is special and step by step the captain and his men learn gentle and harsh lessons from this marvelous woodsmen, how to survive in almost impossible weather conditions, how to act like a man, with dignity and compassion....... the harsh existence, and sadness when one is taken out of ones element and put in an alien one. Dersu Uzala is a brilliant, lasting vision of man humbled by nature but respecting nature, and then bringing it back in a poem of reflection. The understated ending, so subtle, almost mute, is one of the most moving Ive ever watched. All viewers should cherish this film for so many strengths and be glad that we had such a master film maker as Kurosawa among us". 5. Just happened on to this news story. A lady lost a arm to a gator while doing lawn work. Sooooooo, you don't even have to go to the woods. They will come to your home. 6. JamieZ, Is your vehicle leaking exhaust fumes into your passenger compartment. The carbon monoxide would cause a bad headache after inhaling and it can cause you to pass out. AND DIE TOO. Check it out! Were the windows up as you drove? Buy, borrow or steal a CM sensor and carry it in your vehicle on your next long trip. If it's not you, somebody's probably headed out the door for it already! Pater, you mean that wasn't you packin your bag to get to my cache? Awwww, it was really me, did not know I didn't have to watch my own cache. DUH, which way outa this bar! Hope to cache into you sometime Pater. I was wondering who the local cacher was that was going out to check my cache. Now RKnight tells me I don't have to worry about it. DUH, where did you say that door was. I really did not know how they did it. Still don't really. Thanks for all the info folks, It help me understand the system and maybe it helped others too. 9. I just hid and sent in the on-line form to get my first cache posted. It is a member only cache, and at this time is not approved yet. The auto email back to me indicated that a volunteer would check the cache and then if no issues were found it would be posted. Probably in 24-48 hours. Can anyone tell me how the good services of these volunteers are obtained? I assume they are seasoned cachers, but will we ever know who they are? Is there something else about these volunteers that newbies (such as I) should know? Maybe a previous thread that I did not find! 11. Paypal to Dustyjacket is good for me. Can you two get together on it? We're burning daylight, Capi-tan I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. By: Robert Service
  12. I suggest we email DRPEPPER and let him count the number willing to give, get a price and devide the price by the number giving to get the needed donation. Put the max donation in your email I suppose, if you desire. Any other suggestions? 13. Good story here, and I also think it would be good if we got this family a GPSr to get into this family sport. I would think that we need someone in the area to cordinate getting and giving the gift and maybe help them get started. Maybe the owners of the lost/pilfered cache might be willing. Let me know who is collecting the money and I will kick in $10 or the smaller assessment (based on number giving) from my swag fund. 16. I joined and became a charter member before ever going out to a search for a cache. The reason, I looked over this website and found it full of good folks expressing their support of this site. I would have been a slacker not to share the load. I have never been a slacker. I know of one though. 17. You did not say what GPSr you are using, so I will talk about one that I have. Some GPSr have a pinning function that will lock your position until you move a short distance. My Eagle Expedition II has it and it is really useful. I don't need it as badly now that Selective Availablity (SA) has been turned OFF by the goverment, but it stills helps when I use my old 5 pounder Eagle. If you have this function, try it with it off and then try it with it on, maybe it will help. With the pinning function turned ON, your position will be locked when you stop moving I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. 18. How can I search for a members profile, with only the members user name known? I have had several members email me (all very nice people), and would like to see their profiles and finds. Thanks I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. By: Robert Service
  19. 30 seconds = .500 seconds or 1/2 minute I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. By: Robert Service
  20. longitude 89degrees 20 minutes and 20 seconds Each degree is devided into 60 minutes, and each minute is devided in to 60 seconds. But instead of expressing the seconds your unit is expressing the 20 seconds in a decimal format. 20 seconds = .333 of a minute. Or 1/3 of a minute. That is the preferred way it seems. 55 seconds would be .916 30 seconds = .500 or 1/2 of a degree. A good website to explain latitude and longitude is: http://www-istp.gsfc.nasa.gov/stargaze/Slatlong.htm Hope this helps. 21. Dang it wake up Dersu! I found where to vote, it is early here. Getting ready for work @ 0600 and trying to Geocache on the puter at the same time. 22. I go with Jeremy and what seems the majority on this. I am a Newbie, but it seems reasonable if the man in charge says he needs this. Is this the vote here, or do I actually VOTE some where else. I hope it is not a locationless place. 23. Good job on video, really fancy. Hats off to all involved. I will email link to some friends and family. I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. By: Robert Service
  24. Being a Newbie would be relative to who you are compared to. I am a newbie to those with several finds, expert to someone just introduced to geocaching. I worry more about expanding my own self-worth than the title that is put on me. Just a thought and a chance to test my signature below this reply. Did it work? 25. CCC, I may have been a slacker in preparation for my first outing and I suppose that you were a expert on your first outing, but I was able to come up with 30 bucks to become a charter member before ever starting this new hobby. How about you, why don't you support the folks that provide you with this forum to deride people you don't even know? Whose the real slacker here?
