  1. "And remember, this was meant to be a game. Shame it has grown into much more than that. That aspect is what has pretty much turned me off of geocaching right now." I agree with GPSblake And Jeremy, I would not associate myself with the aclu if my life depended on it, much less a game. Cancel my membership if they are our defense.

  3. I downloaded the upgrade file, but now can not find it on my computer. I tried doing a file search for a file named SetupExpertGPS.exe, but did not find it on my puter. Is the name of the file SetupExpertGPS.exe? Also, do I have to uninstall the old version? Or will this new install overwrite the old program and save my files and settings? Or will this new version be a new program entirely? The file downloaded so quickly, and it did not give me a chance to direct it to my download folder, not sure where it went. Any help will be greatfully recieved. BTW, my old version (1.2.1b2) still downloads maps and stat images. Why is that? Thank you. 4. I have a Merigreen also and I got/get the most out of it by: visiting the Magellan website and downloading the 90+ page manual and joining the MapSend Yahoo group after purchasing MapSendTopo and playing with it for awhile. There is also a Yahoo Meridian group that you will find helpful. You have to join the groups to post questions. The manual that came with my unit is not the full manual, the one I downloaded and printed out is the real deal. Took alot of paper, but it was worth it. There is a good size learning curve with the Magellans, (at least for me) but with the available help and the manual I have a good GPSr. I could not get along without ExpertGPS good Luck. 8. May be too late, but could this vote have been made a event cache? With the confirmation email has proof for cache find. Would that have helped? 9. Mr. Snazz, would you care to express your reasons for being so hostile towards disabling the right click function, or are you only interested in making threats? I did not take it as a personal threat, just a general threat to anyone that disagrees with you. Or did I misread your post entirely. Perhaps you have a good reason for disliking a Javascript that disables the right click function. Maybe even one that I might agree with, but just have not thought of. 10. As shown by many of the previous posts, the use or misuse of someone elses avatar is not a serious problem. However, there is a way to give images posted on your personal website some protection from theft. There is a java script that I use on some of my webpages to disable the "right click function" of visitors browers. It is not 100% protective, but it will stop the casual internet serfer. you can check out how it works on this website. This is a photo that I altered in response to a thread "YOU WRITE THE CAPTION". Caution, ladies and some men may be offended. you can get the Java script (and others) from this website. Just embed the Java script in your HTML code. :rolleyes I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. 11. Well, it is not a simple obtuse triangle problem! Above my math skills, but there is a way to do it without math, I think. I don't want to post a spoiler here, so I will email you and see how much you want to know. 12. Please post a link to the cache page and let us look at it. Sounds a like a trig problem, probably a obtuse triangle. No problem to solve if some of the info is available. 13. El Conquistador's Treasure by Viperwolf1 in Greenland and Hidden: 8/11/2002 has not been found yet. On a Glacier, sounds like it would take a expert/pro explorer/climber. 14. I have a Merigreen, but I thought the plat came with a 16 meg SD card installed. I checked Magellan's website and found this. "Magellan® Meridian® Platinum is the ultimate GPS receiver for the serious navigator, featuring a 3-axis electronic compass that provides rock steady readings regardless of how you hold the unit. A built-in barometer gives you advance notice on the weather, and an extensive, 16 MB, built-in mapping database shows your position to within 3 meters or better. Rugged, weather-proof design, large display, intuitive operation and nearly unlimited expandability make the Meridian Platinum an incomparable GPS receiver." I thought the "16 MB built in mapping database" was a SD card, but I guess not. The SD card slot under the batteries must be empty. If you need one, you can download and print the manual for your Meriplat from this web page. I did it for my Merigreen and it took about 80 pages, but it was worth it. I have not changed my lawyer screen yet either, been trying to learn the essential things first. Good Luck :rolleyes I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. By: Robert Service
  15. quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat:I've heard of caches being secured with a lock, but the real key to avoiding cache theft is to hide it well, in an area where it's unlikely to be accidently discovered, or where searchers are likely to be observed. There are a handful of cache thieves who get the coordinates from this website and set out to steal caches. Your caches will never be safe from these miscreants, but you can cut down a great deal on theft by putting some thought into where and how you hide your caches. So far it's worked for me. I've only lost one of the 35 or so real caches I've placed. The one I lost, I didn't expect to last long because, although it was well hidden, it was in a place that searchers could be observed. I posted the following in another thread, but it may fit this thread better....... I had a cache stolen within the last two days. It was completely hidden (if replaced as it was) from view in a swampy, tick, snake, chigger and, mosquito infested spot. Unlikely spot for kids or passerby. I firmly believe it was stolen because the general public can access the coordinates and the spoiler hint. Please don't mention MOC option, that is not the problem. Some of my most trusted cacher friends are not paying members. It is the easy access that the general public has to our cache information. And I don't mean that every Joe-blow is out plundering caches, it is the unusual jerk that has nothing better to do. Or just kids that have not grown up yet. Would it help if we at least require anyone that wants to see the hint to be logged on, and maybe even the coordinates? What do you think? I read some of the old threads on this subject and realize this has been a problem for awhile. :rolleyes I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown. 16. If it became a job, would it still be fun? Then I would have to get another hobby, maybe at WallyWorld, saying "Welcome to WalMart". 17. ADDED/EDITED: After you click on LOG YOUR VISIT on the cache page, there is a option to POST A NOTE. END EDIT: I would log a NOTE to the cache webpage that it missing, even if others also have. If it is missing, you can not find it, thus how would you log a find? At the same time, I would not feel the need to log a NOT FOUND, if it is missing, it can't be found. Maybe it needs to be archived if the owner will not respond. 20. Lysa, How about giving me 3 days notice before posting that cache. Well, how about 2 days then. I do live a far piece, and my ol'mule is kinda slow these days. Sounds like a great idea. 24. I agree pepper sray is not kid friendly. Could this not have been handled without making a public issue of it? Certainly a NEWBIE did it, but why not just email the person and handle it that way? The issue could have been brought up here without a link to the cache. Now this person is marked. 25. To the experts here and I do sense their presence, I have a Merigreen with 4.02 loaded and a 128 meg sd card. I use USA mapTopo to load maps. It (GPSr) seems to work reasonably well, but I like to get the best out of my toys. Is 4.03 likely to improve my units reliability or my pleasure in using it? Anyone know the reason for the new version? I have flouted the wild, I have followed its lure, fearless. familar, alone; yet the wild must win, and a day will come when I shall be overthrown.
