  1. I was lucky to have the opportunity to do a side by side comparison of the new Magellan Sportrak and my Meridian Gold. They are practically the same machine. The aquisition times were the same. I took my usual lunchtime walk and came back to my reference lamppost. After sitting for just 30 seconds they had the exact same coordinates and the altitude differed by just 2 feet. I noticed that the Sportrak has 2 less screens than the Meridian. The Data screen (which has the strip compass at the bottom is missing and Speed screen which has a graphical speedometer is missing. I have these 2 screens turned off on my Meridian anyway so this is no loss. The Sportrak uses the same data cable as the Meridian but does not fit in the mounting bracket. I uploaded detailed street information with Mapsend and loaded waypoints from Expertgps just fine. It is narrower than the Meridian and fits nicely in my hand but it is still larger that the Garmin products. All in all I'd say it is a great unit. If I didn't already have a Meridian Gold then I would consider this one.
  2. Congratulations to all the "B I N G O" winners! We have planned a get-together for this coming Sat 5/4 to hand out the prizes and to mix and mingle: Everyone is WELCOME & encouraged to come, we always have a great time. I'm posting this here just in case some of you miss the event listing, sorry it's such short notice! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=21174 Hope to see a lot of you on Sat. The Cach-U-Nuts
  3. Click here for list of Caches near SLC Airport. Hope this helps. You would need a rental car to get to any of these. I don't know of any within walking distance.
  4. The ski pass will go to TSlack2000. If anyone can find my Brighton Up Your Day cache then TSlack2000 can. Just remember to put on some sunscreen!
  5. I retrieved the free ski pass that CarolX2 left up in the Brighton Up Your Day cache. If any cachers out there would like a free ski pass and will go find the Brighton Up Your Day cache while they are using the free pass then contact the Cach-U-Nuts at cghendricks@utah-inter.net. Better hurry, Brighton is planning on closing on April 21st.
  6. I thought I had deleted this thread this morning. I posted a reply and then deleted it. Then for the next 2 hours this thread did not show up. Now it has reappeared. How strange! Anyway, you can click on this link to get my file of Utah waypoints for use in Easy or Expert GPS.Cach-U-Nuts Utah Waypoint File The waypoint names have been changed from GC1234 to an abbreviation of the cache name such as ZEUSRT for Zeus's Roost. This makes it easier to identify what cache you are approaching as you drive around. Please note that some of the older caches that have been archived may still appear in this list. I have added new caches as they come up but have not been as diligent about deleting old ones that are no longer there. There are more waypoints than can fit in most gps units. What I do is make a copy of the file and then delete the waypoints that are outside the area that I will be going into. Then I load the smaller file into my gps. I will make this file available from my web site at www.cachunuts.com and will update it frequently. Hope this file is useful to somebody. Have fun and keep on caching
  7. I think I accidently deleted Bunkerdaves's thread about a waypoint file of Utah caches. You can download my file of Utah caches by clicking on this link. Utah Caches The waypoint names have been changed from GC1234 to something like ZEUSRT. The names are abbreviations of the cache name so if you load them in your gps you will know which cache you are driving past. Be aware that there are some listings of caches that have now been archived. I have added new caches but have not been as diligent about deleting old ones. There are more listing than will fit on most gps units. What I do is make a copy of the list. Then I delete the ones that are not in the area that I will be traveling in to get the number of waypoints less than 500. Then I put the smaller file into my gps. Hope this file is usefull. Have fun and keep on caching!
  8. ATTENTION ALL UTAH GEO-CACHERS "UTAH EVENT UPDATE" (Sat March 16th) Hey guys We've made arrangements with the Peppermill to use their meeting room. A lunch will be served @ 1:00 and we will have a meeting and play bingo afterwards. If you plan on eating the lunch there will be a $8.50 charge per person and we NEED to have a firm head count by Tue March 12, Please email us @ cghendricks@utah-inter.net with the names of those in your party. (We will need to pay in advance so please don't leave us holding the bag here) If you would prefer to just come and join in for the meeting and BINGO that's fine, there is no charge for that, just a contribution to the "PRIZE" bucket!! Elwood has been working on getting us some fun-books for the casinos....Thanks Elwood!! As we mentioned on the event site, "BINGO" cards will be hidden in caches on the way to Wendover so check the site on Friday the 15th for those locations. We are also trying to put together some additional desert Cache games for Sat. morning, if you have any ideas please let us know. At the meeting we will discuss a "SPRING CLEANING" Cache game, as well as any other topics you feel important to our sport. Perhaps even forming a "Utah Association" of geo-cachers. Please let us know if there is something you would like to discuss. Looking forward to seeing everyone and having some fun! Please email us with your Head count and ideas right away......THANKS!
