Nord-Richtung immer in unterschiedliche reale Richtungen zeigt.
  2. A small pocket mirror will also help in many of these situations. It can also be used together with a flashlight/battery torch. I just too often forget that using a simple mirror would have been easier.
  3. Hi Shrek & Fiona, Sorry, no. For GAPP there's definitely no multiplatform version available or planned at the moment. It is windows only. (Until somebody joins the project with enough time & knowledge to port the c# sources to i.e. Mono) For GeoGet I at least don't see any mac version in the download section. I'm unsure about the plans of that project but have read also in the forum some time ago that the project is/(was?) windows only.
  5. Gar nicht mal so schlecht. In 5 sekunden auf den Punkt.
  6. There are other programs which are roughly comparable to GSAK but free. There's GAPP (a project i'm personally involved in): http://application.globalcaching.eu/ That program supports the Live-API (i.e. for downloading PQs) and also has some export functions for garmins. It can directly import GSAK Databases if needed. Also there's GeoGet: http://geoget.ararat.cz/doku.php/start
  9. I used Trekbuddy: http://www.trekbuddy.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page On my former Symbian Phone. Trekbuddy can open gpx-files or also pocket queries (which have been downloaded and transferred to the phone). Additionally it is possible to enter the coords manually. Maps can be prepared with the Utility MOBAC (Mobile Atlas Creator).
  11. When I use the geocaching.com map on a (android) tablet, it works basically ok. But hitting the icons on a 10" touch screen is just pure luck. Normally one would zoom in on the page but on the map this gesture just changes the map scale. When using Firefox there's an addon to circumvent that behaviour but that doesn't make it much easier. Much better in my opinion would be an option for "big icons". Groundspeak already uses icons of different size on the map. An optionally doubled icon size for big scales would be helpful for tablets.
  14. If you select a windows tablet, then make sure that it has an Intel processor. AFAIK Microsoft has two versions of their upcoming windows 8 tablet. One with an ARM Processor (supposedly priced at $199,-) which won't run standard windows programs and another "Pro" Version with Intel Processor (supposedly priced in the "ultrabook" range). The latter should be able to run GSAK (when available). But then, why not just buy an ultrabook or another notebook? If you just want to use a GSAK-Database on your android tablet/phone. Then I recommend the app "GDAK". It has an optimized UI for tablets. I personally use it on both and am quite satisfied with it (while it has still some small errors here and there). But GDAK has no option to transfer cache data. (i.e. to the GPSr)
  15. I use the Add-on "Google Translator" for the Browser Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/google-translator-for-firefox/?src=ss The add-on adds a button to the browsers toolbar. When clicked it translates the whole page into the target language (i.e. English). Alternatively I can select some text of the web page and a button-click replaces the text with the translated version (some formatting may be lost).
  16. @Summerwinter, i've had a look on your profile and did see no mysteries so far. You didn't accidentially go after the original coordinates of Mysteries? Mystery coordinates are fictuous. You have to solve the riddle first to get the real coordinates. (Sorry if the language is not 100% correct. English is not my native language.)
  17. I use GCTour for printing ( http://gctour.madd.in/ ) The Firefox browser and the Greasemonkey-addon is required. But then GCTour saves a lot of paper when printing out caches. Multiple caches can be combined to one tour and you can decide whether an overview map or an individual map per cache is needed. The print preview can be edited (especially unneeded elements can be easily removed) The map for the printout can be osm or google based. Especially when going on Tour with fellow cachers it is easier to have the cache descriptions and the Overview Map at hand when discussing if and where to go next.
  18. In GPS Test the dot left to "GPS on" becomes green when the satellite fix is acquired. If it is still yellow, you will have to wait. And this may take up to 20-30minutes. Did you wait so long?
  19. I'm unsure were you "add coordinates" in google maps. I tried out to put coordinates in the navigation dialog where you enter the destination address: N54(space)57.132(space)E1(space)24.150 Should work (so add N and E and leading zeroes can be omitted) It seems that ° can also be replaced by a space (as you already did).
  20. A mile away is usually positioning via a cell tower position. Probably not GPS. Install an App like "GPS Test" or "InViu GPS-Details", enable GPS and go outside. Those apps will tell you how many sats are seen and if any of them is used for positioning. If you have Wifi or Data connection ready there's also a menu function in "GPS Test" to request A-GPS Data which might help getting the first fix. Getting the first GPS-Fix, especially if the last use of GPS was more than a week ago may take up to 30 minutes. Especially if you move while waiting. Also different phones have different quality in GPS-reception and -positioning. Some have badly placed GPS-antennas. Some use additionally GLONASS Satellites (which may speed up the first connection and helps under bad reception conditions) some only NAVSAT.
  21. I have an Etrex Vista HCx and honestly did not work with Routes very much. But with this Etrex Series it won't work to directly copy the gpx to the memory card. You can only copy/rename the map image file, retrieve saved tracks (gpx) or probably also update the POIs (POI Loader might be better suited for that). Routes should be transferred via garmins PC Software Map Source or the freely available BaseCamp. BaseCamp offers a gpx-import and the ability to convert tracks into routes. Also there's a route utility to manually create routes. Such routes should then be transferrable (in the software) to the garmins internal memory.
  22. Hi beege49, sqlite.db3 is not a directory, it is (or should be) a single file containing the cache database. In the GSAK data directory you find a small number of files, like also settings.ini or log.htm, but sqlite.db3 is the file needed. But there's a macro for GSAK which should help with GDAK. Here: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?act=ST&f=29&t=22016 I have no experience with that macro though as I use another PC-Application (GAPP) for exporting Cache databases to GDAK. I don't know why the direct import did not work. Personally I use that import function to eventually add some caches to the DB which I forgot to prepare in the DB.
  23. Hi Beege49, I just looked at my configuration. #1 I have a base folder for GDAK (may it be /mnt/sdcard/GDAK) set in the settings as "Database Location". #2 For each Database I have put up a subfolder which contains the sqlite.db3 from GSAK. So for example this would be /mnd/sdcard/GDAK/Main/sqlite.db3 This directory name should appear in the setting "Database Name". Once the base directory has been set it is also possible to select/switch the database from the main view via the Database Icon (Pile of Discs). Finally you can also query caches via the Live API. Open the Map and select the "Import" Option from the Settings (only enabled if a network Wifi/Cell is available). The import coordinates are taken from the current map center. You can adjust the radius and max. number of caches to import. Currently there's also a beta which imports pocket queries (Beta posting in Netherlands). I am sure it would not be too long until this update will find its way into the release.
  24. I just want to mention that GSAK is not the only "Geocaching Database Manager" for Windows. There's also: GeoGet And new since a few months: GAPP (I am involved in this project a little bit) Certainly there are other programs I missed mentioning.
  25. I've seen cities here in Germany and also in Denmark where the tourism information bureaus lend out GPSRs with a kind of Geocaching Tour attached. (Would describe it as Multi) I've seen a Danish Tourism Brochure where some Geocaches of a region were listed with short description and coords. So probably there'll be a job for someone who places and/or maintains and documents gecoaches in an area to make it more attractive for tourists. Also maintaining Powertrails with several #100 of caches could be a full-time job. Job: GC-Ranger
